changing the meme to suit my own purposes
Apr. 13th, 2007 08:41 pmComment, telling me you want me to meme you, and I'll--
1 - Tell you why I friended you. Assuming I can remember :)
2 - Associate you with something. A fandom, a song, a colour, a piece of fruit. SOMETHING.
3 - Tell you something I like about you.
4 - Tell you a memory I have of you, or completely fabricate something.
5 - Associate you with a character/pairing.
6 - Ask something I've always wanted to know about you. (Or else I'll just ask a random question. I reserve that right.)
7 - Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.
8 - In return, you must spread this disease in your LJ, or answer the same questions about me in a comment. Or, you know, not. (I'm low-maintenance like that.)
I was askeered to do this meme until danvers insisted, because there are so many lurkers and I'm afraid, see, that someone will comment and I *won't remember who you are*. I'm over it, though, in fact, I would like to INVITE lurkers and various aquaintances, as well as close LJ buddies, to comment with question answers and at the very least I'll comment fic you off something you said in your answers or something, and then I get to know a little more about who you are, so it's win-win!

Date: 2007-04-14 05:15 am (UTC)1. Well, I'm aquainted with too many lily's on LJ, so I shall have to say that we met fighting over the last bar of extra dark chocolate in the campus bookstore.
2. I shall now associate you with, hrm... a long leather skirt. Yes.
3. That you commented yay!

Date: 2007-04-14 05:16 am (UTC)4/5 - Kate was unsteady; she was sure she was crossing a line, showing up uninvited. She and Teyla had come to share meals together, speak during social events for hours on end, they'd even spoken of serious things on a balcony overlooking the East pier. Kate knew Teyla did not share needlessly and knew also that she had her reasons for cancelling their standing professional appointment. Still, Teyla's team had asked her to come; Ronon even explicitly stating that none of them knew what to say.
So she was here, entering Teyla's quarters in a quasi-professional way with a bag of distractions over her shoulder.
Teyla was lying in rather a distracting position, on her side the plush fur that served as a rug, one leg drawn up preternaturally high behind her head. Kate's silence waiting for her to resume looking forward and carefully release the pose was as much lack of breath as anything else.
"Hello," Teyla said, and her voice sounded tired.
"I checked on the boys in the infirmary," Kate said, "they seemed more concerned about you."
"They are all here, and well," Teyla said, as though reminding herself.
"They're frightened for you," Kate responded, realizing the truth of it and remembering John's face in the infirmary, "can I ask what happened?"
Teyla took a long time breathing in the air to answer, so Kate settled herself in a similar crosslegged pose on the carpet. She caught herself tilting her head in a professional way and stopped. She felt herself cataloguing hints of PTSD symptoms in Teyla and made herself quiet.
Finally Teyla opened her mouth to speak, and Kate had to make herself listen for the sounds instead of just watching as though she could see breath through lips. "I was.." Teyla shook her head slighly as though she couldn't find the words. "I was frightened myself." And then she shook her head again as if shaking off the emotion and implication of fear.
And then Kate understood that that was the heart of the matter, at it's most pure. She stopped concerning herself with whether she would be professionally obligated to report her discussion with Teyla or write down notes later; Teyla was more self aware at that moment than Kate could ever lead her to be.
"I brought some things to distract you, if that's what you want," Kate said, all stuttering voice now the professionalism was irrelevant, "but I can leave you too, if you'd prefer." At the slight quirk of an eyebrow Kate unslung her bag and displayed the three items of frivolity she had in her possession. Teyla picked one of them up. "I've been thinking of dying my hair red," Kate explained, and wondered if Teyla remembered the conversation they'd had. Teyla skipped over the tube of face mask and picked up the cucumber. "I had to trade with the kitchen staff," Kate said wryly.
"Is it a food item?" Teyla asked, and Kate thought suddenly that of course Teyla wouldn't know what Earth food looked like unprepared if it had been grown in the Lantian kitchen greenhouse and not on the mainland.
"Yes, and if you've had a long day, cold slices on your closed eyelids can feel good..." Kate trailed off as Teyla got a particularly mischevious look on her face and tested the weight of the vegetable in her hand as though she were going to throw it.
"It does not look like a food item," Teyla said, with at least half a smile. Kate blushed, but couldn't look away. After all, she reasoned, she's come there to distract Teyla, she was entitled to watch her handiwork as the woman smiled.
And a smiling Teyla was worth watching.
"What I would most like," Teyla said, eyes looking away and then back, boldly, to Kate, "is to be held. To sleep, and not be alone." Kate felt her smile ease off her face as she understood what Teyla was asking.
And then she knew with great certainty that she would not be returning to her quarters to write a report, or for any other reason. Kate smiled again at Teyla, and freely watched to see if she smiled back.
6 - I shall now ask you to answer the same questions about me.
7 - I love the icon you have of Teyla from S1, leaving a room and looking over her shoulder. Not only is her hair gorgeous, but her hand just draws the eye.

Date: 2007-04-14 05:25 am (UTC)2 - I associate you with long, tall, skinny model women. Serves you right for calling yourself Wraith.
3 - I like that you are fearless with what you say. I remember some particularly hilarious threads involving ded gey Russians where it was worth it to just watch you go.
4 - Oh Jesus, Ded Gey Russians isn't a memory?
5 - I associate you with, oh, wait... let me think... um...
6 - I have always wanted to know... if you could see one thing in the world, what would it be (fandom answers allowed, but looking only, no touching)
7 - I must love your Jack/Daniel Princess Bride quote icon.
8 - In return, you must spread this disease in your LJ, or answer the same questions about me in a comment. Or, you know, not. (I'm low-maintenance like that.)

Date: 2007-04-14 05:33 am (UTC)2 - I've seen it everywhere, but I still think of you when I see the 'OTP, carve it on my tombstone' quote
3 - I like anyone who is so thoroughly positive about fandom, but I love watching you get into writing too.
4 - Well, recently, you nearly exploded when I recced you, that was cute. Hee!
5 - Um, do you have an OTP?
6 - I'm curious how you came into LJ, whether it was the first place you fell when you got into fandom, and how you came into SG-1 so late in the game, as it were.
7 - The 'love means never having to care if it's canon' one is *marvelous*

Date: 2007-04-14 06:45 am (UTC)2 - Oh, that fantastic Inara/Jayne fic comes to mind. I'll associate you with them as my favorite (if only) author of that pairing.
3 - That you work so hard at work worth doing.
4 - That I met you on my way to Africa and then promptly saw a woman on the plane who seriously looked just like you--at least, out of the corner of my eye. Granted, I had my glasses on, so the peripheral vision is not so much, but I love that you made that much of an impression.
5 - See #2
6 - How did you meet your husband? Or, if that's too much, how did you come to be in nyc, nyc girl? Are you a Manhattan native?
7 - Oh, the Zoe 'Bitch Please' is so fantastic.

Date: 2007-04-14 04:48 pm (UTC)2 - I associate you with bamboo tables, ceramic tea pots, napkins with ancient language forms and derivations scribbled all over them in colored pens and ambrosia ice cream.
3 - I love how passionate you are about linguistics and archeology, it's totally inspiring.
4 - Well, there was that one time I moved down the coast to be nearer to you... oh wait, that's coming up. Did I mention that I'm moving to SB and will be a mere few hours drive from LA?
5 - John/Steve for the win! I'm glad you pointed me to those stories, because they really are some of the most inventive and unique that I've read.
6 - I shall ask, um, (this is evil, but I'm curious) if the fates work with you, were would you like to be in five or ten years?
7 - I'm going to have to love the Steve/John so close icon, because that is an extraordinary look on John's face.

Date: 2007-04-14 05:08 pm (UTC)2 - Quince.
3 - I love the quotes at the beginning of your entries. I do so admire pithy people.
4 - Oooooh, the time with the duck! And the headdress! *collapses in laughter* No, no, I'm not laughing at you.
5 - *sigh* Mal/Simon. I think you may be my favoritest author of that pairing.
6 - Are we, perhaps, both in Supernatural fandom now? I mean, I'm only sticking my baby toe in the pool at this point (haven't even friended any comms) but my powerful deductive reasoning notes the DEAN ICON you are using today! So, while I have you as a captive audience, what is your fannish philosophy or geneology?
7 - Traditionally, I would go with anything involving Zoe, or perhaps the Faith 'Drive Your Life Like it's a Car You Stole' icon (which is fabulous), but I'm going to have to go with Phil the Goat, because I have no idea what it means, but it makes me laugh.

Date: 2007-04-14 12:43 pm (UTC)1 - I friended you because of your faboo recs and your faboo fiction and that you were mutually on a bunch of people's flists and then just found you fabulous. Lucky!! :D
2 - Stargate fandom of course... and SPN now... bwahahaha!! I associate you with the colour... sparkly! Shutup, totally a colour!! Hehehee...
3 - I like how open and friendly and welcoming you are. I like your sense of humour and obviously you have great taste in friends... har har!
4 - Remember that time in Vegas with the cheese, the cadillac and the French Canadians? No? Just me then?
5 - Teal'c. Hehee... it's the little love that could!
6 - What did you want to be when you grew up? When you were little and the world was frilly dresses and maryjanes?
7 - I love the Weeeee! Jayne icon... always makes me giggle. :)
8 - Tada!

Date: 2007-04-14 04:39 pm (UTC)2 - I associate you with Australia, and if we must have a color... *muses* MAUVE. The universal color of danger. No-- wait! BEARS. I associate you with little cuddly bears. With Zelenka hair.
3 - I love how upbeat you are. A chat with you always makes the day brighter, and I don't remember you ever being negative about anyone.
4 - I cannot *believe* you remember the thing with the cheese and the cadillac! I would've sworn you were either to drunk or were going to repress it or something. I swear those French Canadians tried to lace that cheese with something, it had that tangy aftertaste, you know? Still, the fingerprint sized dents in my bum worked themselves out... eventually. The bite marks you left behind I still remember fondly. I think I have pictures.
5 - Oh, let's everyone be associated with Teal'c! Or maybe the world's smallest ship wars! Reinstate the Cam/Daniel v. Cam/Teal'c wank! Okay, fine. I'll associate you with Atlantis/little furry bears. Tumbly run for the win!
6 - Ever been to a con? I haven't, but I'd be really curious to go with a bunch of fans that I knew... wondered if it changed the experience.
7 - I really love the framing on 'A little dirty', but I might have to pick one of the other Faith ones, either Serene or Not So Innocent (liviapenn tried to pimp me into Buffy by going to see theater showings of eps, and the only one I really reacted instantly to was Faith. If the show had been called 'Faith, vampire slayer', I'd have been All Over It.)
8 - In return,
you must spread this disease in your LJ, or answer the same questions about me in a comment.I answer your comments!Shutup, totally a colour!!
Sparkly is a color! Sparkly is the *bestest* color!
Teal'c. Hehee... it's the little love that could!
Neither my love, nor any other part of Teal'c that I know of, is little. Also, CJ played football for my home state in college, so I feel like we're close.
What did you want to be when you grew up? When you were little and the world was frilly dresses and maryjanes?
I don't really recall many frilly dresses, though there were a lot of kilts and berets for some reason (and let's not go into the 80s thing with bandanas...) But apparently I announced that I either wanted to be an actress or a doctor when I grew up. My mother finds it hilarious, but then again, she did survive a child who never forgot the answer to a question and would find the holes in invented responses, so she deserves a laugh or two.
I love the Weeeee! Jayne icon
Me too! Also love the 'wtf?'Jayne icon, but have far fewer occasions to use it.

Date: 2007-04-14 05:33 pm (UTC)2 - I shall associate you with one of the most gutsy, productive, fascinating discussions about ship/slash vs. gen ever. And SG-1, obviously, and dragonfruit.
3 - I like that you post about all the shows you're watching in SG-1. I've only ever done it for Farscape and it's a much bigger commitment for SG-1. I also love that you've enjoyed both the early and the late seasons. Me too, dude.
4 - Well, there was the night we were up late in the science labs and you snuck me in to see the big telescope and I snuck in a bottle of wine and we spent the night making ridiculous wishes on falling stars no one else could see.
5 - Gen, baby, gen. And Sam, for we share the Sam love, yes we do.
6 - Who are your favorite characters across fandoms?
7 - I really like 'the dice were loaded' as a quote for Daniel and Sha're, but I think it might be more effective with one close image of them... or maybe not. Hrm.

3 - Your multitalentedness. She writes! She metas! She icons!
4 - I think I recced a story of yours that was untitled and you went back and titled it just because I was ribbing you about it. My title: Sam and Teal'c have a Bonding Moment and Hammond has to Poke Jack and Daniel to Make Them Behave. You called it How Teal'c Discovered Makeup. (http://psychofilly.livejournal.com/83928.html) Much easier to type, really.
5 - I'm going to say Teal'c/Sam, or at least Teal'c and Sam, because I think your Teal'c Ficathon piece also featured them.
6 - How do you make icons? Do you come across images and go on a binge or is it a thing where you think 'huh, I b'lieve I shall make old school Star Trek icons today'?

Date: 2007-04-15 03:43 am (UTC)2 - I associate you with Daniel Jackson's clothes. It's up to you to get him out of them.
3 - I like the glee with which you introduced yourself to the corner of fandom I'm in. I mean, appreciating Daniel is a great ice breaker in general, but What An Introduction. I fear I may have been a bit of a gibbering mess at that point, so I'm not sure the return introduction was all that impressive.
4 - This is little, but I hinted at noticing a structural POV change in your Million Years fic (TEAL'C=YAY) and you, incredibly graciously, invited concrit. I haven't taken you up on it, though (sorry, got distracted.)
5 - Teeeeeaaaaallllll'ccccc... okay, that's wishful thinking, and just because I'm always willing to stoop to begging for more Teal'c fic. Really? Daniel Jackson's Clothes. Daniel/clothes=OTP!!!
6 - What are you studying, and what do you want to do with it ultimately?
7 - Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.
*sigh* the internets are thwarting me, and so I shall comment fic based on the icon I can see:
"But I like this shirt!" Daniel called through the door, most of the sound reverberating back on him since he'd moved into a house (Jack's insistance) with solid oak doors.
"Trust me, Daniel," Sam called back, most of the sound muted by the door. Or Teal'c's shoulder.
Daniel yanked open the door, half his shirttails yanked out when it finally occurred to him to ask for clarification. He nearly ran into 6'3" of Jaffa in a smart suit and bowler hat. "What's wrong with my shirt?" Daniel managed to ask without yelling.
"Daniel," Sam said with the tone of someone breaking bad news, "it looks like a picnic tablecloth. You can do better."
"But," Daniel said, looking around Teal'c to Sam, then back to Teal'c, "it's soft!" Teal'c slowly raised an eyebrow, Daniel backed up a step.
"Fine," Daniel said, resigned, "Get in here and dress me if you're going to play critic." Sam smiled hugely and tiptoed briskly into Daniel's room. Daniel looked after her darkly until his view was obscured by charcoal wool.
"Oooooh, what do you think of the blue sweater Janet got him last year?" Sam said in a high, excited voice. The rumble of Teal'c's reply was cut off by Daniel shutting the door needlessly with a resigned sigh.
8 - In return, you must meme me back, as promised! Whee!

Date: 2007-04-15 05:14 pm (UTC)1 - I think Cofax deliberately pointed me to you probably because of your recs, and I went over, though you weren't reccing a whole lot at the time, and found the odd post interesting enough that I stuck around for a while and lurked. When you started reccing like mad, I had to speak up and show some appreciation.
2 - I associate you with a lot of information about fandoms I've never heard of.
3 - I like that you are such a compelling writer that you can talk people into at least reading recs in fandoms they've never heard of. Whee!
4 - This is going to be recent, but you just posted a set of recs with a Recommender's Code ((Yes, there is a Recommender's Code of Ethics. The first item is "Don't let recommending make you crazy," but the second is, "If someone, somewhere, has missed out on a good story, it is ALL YOUR FAULT." Recommenders are deeply conflicted people with angst and emo and suchlike coming out our (meaty and suitable for poking with a sharp stick) butts, and never let anyone tell you otherwise.)) I got to that part and laughed my arse off, because YES!!! Angsty! Emo! Deeply conflicted! You should see me when I point to some list collection somewhere and Raqs or Cofax or someone says (tactfully) "Um, have you seen my fic of this nature?" and then I have to wonder how many others I spaced, you know? What have I forgotten? OMGemo! Only I have a remarkably bony ass; it doesn't match the rest of my curvy person. I suspect whole-sale discount, but then again, I do laugh my arse off when reading your posts, so that could explain it.
5 - I think I still associate you with Manga or something, but I'll go with slash in SGA. Yes.
6 - What or who are the first through third vines?
7 - Love the 'sex is the universal fandom' icons (all of them), but those annonymous umbrella icons in black and white are striking images. There're are also a few Asian images that are gorgeous (one from comics? manga? and one from work by an artist.) WOW, girl, beautiful icons you have there.

5 - I love your Sam. And I love also your Sam/Jack, stupid cute pairing that they are. I will read absolutely anything you write, and I'm pretty sure that liking your Sam/Jack convinced me that I needed to give them another shot.
6 - Is it more tragic to vocalize a wish on a falling star and know in absolute terms how disappointed you are if the wish isn't fullfilled, or to never speak the wish aloud and never know what you really want, even when you don't get it?
7 - Ooh, I love this part. Um, I was going to pick 'tail biter', then I was going to pick the Sam and Daniel 'action' one, then Captain Jack's 'aaaaaahhhhh!', but the winner must obviously be the 'Apocalypes, oops' icon.
