I love the feeling of completion
Mar. 22nd, 2006 05:00 pmDrafts are nice. It's nice when you finish them and send them off with a sense of accomplishment. Because you know what this means? It means that the lion's share of my dissertation has been drafted. It might not be finished, because my advisor is too lazy to actually get back to me with edits, but I feel pretty good about it. Graduation, here I come (look out, world).
In other news, my dog is stoned. She has a bum knee that they knocked her out to x-ray today (needs surgery, poor pup) which means that she needed me to lift her out of the car, and her face, let me tell you, was loving gravity. Ears, waaaay down. Eyes, half-lidded at best. Head just barely held up. She's a cross between happy and asleep, and it's very funny. I tried to lift her out of the car and in getting my arms around her (she's 70 pounds = not small) she more or less just shrugged into them (not so helpful) like hugging was the best idea ever and maybe could she take a nap on my shoulder while I was here? Now mostly she's licking her nose, staring at the floor and whimpering in a listing sort of way as she drifts around the house and reminds herself that she can't get on the bed because a) she has a bad knee and b) we shut the door to the bedroom. Not that she remembers that from one minute to the next.
Hope she doesn't walk into anything. Just say no, kids. That's the moral of this story.
kres is posting Find the River (multipart, posting a bit a day), last sequel to Pick Up Here (brilliant) and And Chase the Ride (also amazing). I'm going to have to reread all of it at the end anyway, but right now the words are washing over me like a lullaby, and a sweet one. Amazing art and banners with it too. Jack/Daniel.
Are you all reading
jssangel's posts? You should be, she's posting these amazing fics about Pegasus natives and their attitudes about sex in cultures that have limited populations and a need for as many children from as diverse a genetic pool as possible coming to live and deal with the Earth-grown 'Lantians with their oddly Puritanical, strangely committment-oriented ways learned in a world with an overpopulation problem. It's amazing and psychologically complex and I'm fascinated. Here's a link to one called A Dream of Things That Never Are. Ronon, R and another The Grace of Efficiency, Elizabeth.
sdraevn = Danvers wrote a wonderfully surreal wedding fic that feels like a wedding to me, with interchangable faces and time in a vacuum and you wonder if it was fun or why you spent so much time there when you would've left any normal party hours earlier. Holding On. She also was gifted pretty art for Under The Skin, which I hadn't read before, but I love for the unique communication and sweetness.
mmmchelle's fic without a title is Reason 2363 to Love Teyla (my title) it's John/Rodney and NC-17.
Also
destina posted a fic she wrote for barkley called Transitions which is Jack & Daniel & Teal'c and S9 and growing apart and staying in touch and marvelous.
I started reading another WIP, and now I'm committed. *head/desk* Oh well, it's
rageprufrock and SGA as 'The Mummy' and I'd call it crack except she keeps writing Egypt so evocatively. Three parts up so far, no schedule. Fair warning. Sky Full Of. John, Rodney (and John/Rodney soon, I hope) and Jeanie (she's marvelous).
In other fannish, but not rec's, news, got me mah
tealc_ficathon assignment and am very excited, the
remixredux pieces will be posted Sunday, it would seem *is a little clueless about anything Not Her Dissertation* which is wierd to me because it's been done for ages, and I'm used to insta-f/b!crack, so it's wierd. We'll see how I fare as an anonymous ficcer, though. I also finally saw the SG-1 finale thanks to a timely hint from
rydra_wong to check out DivX to let me watch .avi files on my MacOSX system. So. Slashy. Arthur's Mantle was the most Cam/Teal'c slashiest, but this had fabulous moments. Because Teal'c taught him to kel no' reem, but they kept gettting distracted, right? So Cam's still working on the basics. Hee! Plus, Teal'c growled, I'm pretty sure. I also like that T went off to do his thing and no one yelled at him about chain of command or doubted him for a minute.
Also... um... there was something else and I've forgotten it.
OH! Almost finished the next bit of p0rn. This is the bit for
taselby, though I managed exactly none of my prompts. Another time, another fic. There's sex, though. I think that was the only real requirement. However, Rydra has pointed out that while I was distracted by discribing skin tone and the smell of the air, there might have been an actual theme in there somewhere and would I mind maybe doing something with that? Only much more tactfully said. So, soon. Especially now I don't have to write science for a few hours.
I think that's it. I'm a little dazed yet.

Re: ps
Date: 2006-03-23 11:07 pm (UTC)anyway....yup, you're right. most advisers probably run screaming. if it was me i'd probably go to easy on them about some things, and slap then upside the head about other things. *veg*
