Well, it's not like I hadn't known about NCIS before, but there is something about finding a really extraordinary writer in a fandom to make you think 'yeah, it's time to start following the fanfic here now'. I should point out that I did not intrepidly discover this writer on my own, she was recced and rerecced and pointed to repeatedly by [livejournal.com profile] dustandroses, and I was stubbornly not listening to her. But now I am, and omg, I loved that fic. THANKS, Dusty!

So Rebecca? [livejournal.com profile] blueraccoon? Shout out to you. Her Geometry series is what caught me; they are a series of stand alone fics, and the one I read and LOVED was trajectory, in which Tony gets curious about a slightly kinkier lifestyle, Abby is all for it and along for the ride and moral support, and a few former suspects on a closed case are the trustworthy guides and exemplary members, and the OMC taking Tony on his first steps into the idea of submission is funny, kind, respectful, responsive, sexy and passionate. I'd be totally jealous of Tony if I didn't want to be Abby so badly.

(that was a fandom POV switch, btw)

SGA fic from mmmchelle for thegrrl2002's birthday. Happy Birthday! It is very appropriate for you to be given such fine fine smut in celebration, and I'm still in awe of how wonderfully tantric the build up of tension is in this fic. Rodney just stimulates John in all the right ways at the same time he's making him feel safe from the hoards of people wanting to celebrate his birthday. Fantastic stuff! Not just any smut, let me tell you; it's staying with me. Invisible by Day, by [livejournal.com profile] mmmchelle.

in SG-1 news, I've no new fics to recommend, sadly (haven't had a lot of time to trawl through archives to rec older stuff either), except my own, which you can't have yet. *is sad* Actually, I think I've finished my remix fic, only tweaking the last bits and getting the wording smoothed (Wot? I know what I meant, but fortunately, my lovely beta RW won't let me get away with that-- to your benefit.)

This marks the second ficathon in which I got my piece finished waaaaay early for some reason; I actually think it has something to do with writing for another person. It's more important to me to write well if I'm not just writing for my own amusement. I had a whole simile to writing for a teacher I really cared about and for versus teachers that I didn't have a close relationship with, making amusing statements about how I didn't always get straight A's, in case you were wondering... but then I realized I was implying that the other teachers didn't actually read my assignments or that it didn't matter to me if they did, and that felt mean. Also? I realized it was a poor simile since I've yet to have any relationship with the people I've written for in ficathons beforehand soooo, there you go.

This is why I need betas, see? LOL.

Aw, I don't have sole distribution rights-- rec away! Rec like a mad, mad, reccing thing (as opposed to wrecking thing, which would be bad.)

And, against my better judgement, I'll say, point me at the good NCIS fics! Rec away, fellow pimp.

And yup, on a dissertation writing rampage. Have added several thousand words in the last few days alone, and then come back to my hotel and written fic, so that's amazing, that my fingers aren't exausted. The change of location and the company were what did it, I think. It really is a retreat even though I'm really just hanging out with my lab, writing at a desk while they fly about doing their own science, because I can ask them for advice and talk stuff out whenever I get stuck, and having that very knowledgable audience around is also keeping me focused, because they can obviously tell the difference between my dissertation and fanfic on the computer screen, where my dog at home really can't (or doesn't care to, I haven't asked her.)

When I get home I shall remember these things and perhaps change location or otherwise try to recreate the environment if I get distracted. I'm likely to set my defense date when I get home, though, so that ought to be quite a motivator.

Also? Great icon. *g*

yes, i love the tony in bubbles icon. its from the second season ep 'SWAK', i forget who made the icon tho & too lazy to go look.

LOL so now i'm a fellow fic rec pimp? cool. to start with, read rebecca's geometry series from the first to latest (trajectory) - they're even richer when read in order.
LJ tag here
I also recommend her Paradigm shift series.

For a dark, angsty, h/c gen story.
The Window

Kikkimax wrote a wonderful NCIS-centric crossover with SG-1. Its got a hint of Tony/Daniel Jackson.
Stardust

Check out out the live journal of [livejournal.com profile] twoweevils, some nice stuff there.

Those are the links off the top of my head. i'll send you more - i have to dig up the urls where they're posted since i first read them/saved them off the yahoo list.

And hooray for the dissertation work. You know the point about a specific diss/work space is so true. I know that is part of my problem. i've been trying to get a study carrel in the library, but can only do so much in there since i don't have a laptop. Yep, i need a dissertation retreat too.

Yup, Kikkimax's crossover is marvelous, have already read and recc'd that one. And I think Rebecca may be one of those authors that I will read anything of. Regardless of fandom, pairing or subject. Anything.

And since we're clearly on the same page, that means those other recs of yours are likely to be right up my alley too. *glee* Fun fun fun with fandom.

I totally agree. I just re-read her Paradigm Shift series (http://ncis.fictionresource.com/search.php?action=search&type=like&field=fic_title&value=Paradigm+Shift&submit=View+fics), and found a tag that isn't listed as part of the series, at The NCIS FanFic Archive, so I'd missed it, last time. It's called Snow Day (http://ncis.fictionresource.com/fic.php?fic_id=00517).

I get icons at this comm [livejournal.com profile] ncis_icons all the time - they get some really good ones. I've actually been thinking about some bdsm and D/s icons...I think that may be my next batch, if I can get some good caps to start with. I'm working on it, anyway.

Glad to help with the links. Like [livejournal.com profile] kaleecat suggested, [livejournal.com profile] twoweevils is a good lj to check into. It's two women that sometimes write separately, but mostly together, and in my rec of Between Good and Better (http://community.livejournal.com/dustyrydersrecs/2090.html), I give them dustyryder's highest compliment - The Dusty Seal of Approval for: Superior Phone Sex. Probably my favorite phone sex scene, ever.

Here's the tag to dustyryder's ncis recs (http://community.livejournal.com/dustyrydersrecs/tag/fandom:+ncis). You'll probably be pleased to note that Rebecca is on top of the list, with my newest category: Favorite Authors. It needs to be updated...I wrote it before she started the Geometry Series. I'm due for some updates to that journal, anyway...soon, hopefully.

Anyway. Enjoy!
