dangit! New fandom.
Mar. 4th, 2006 12:42 pmWell, it's not like I hadn't known about NCIS before, but there is something about finding a really extraordinary writer in a fandom to make you think 'yeah, it's time to start following the fanfic here now'. I should point out that I did not intrepidly discover this writer on my own, she was recced and rerecced and pointed to repeatedly by
dustandroses, and I was stubbornly not listening to her. But now I am, and omg, I loved that fic. THANKS, Dusty!
So Rebecca?
blueraccoon? Shout out to you. Her Geometry series is what caught me; they are a series of stand alone fics, and the one I read and LOVED was trajectory, in which Tony gets curious about a slightly kinkier lifestyle, Abby is all for it and along for the ride and moral support, and a few former suspects on a closed case are the trustworthy guides and exemplary members, and the OMC taking Tony on his first steps into the idea of submission is funny, kind, respectful, responsive, sexy and passionate. I'd be totally jealous of Tony if I didn't want to be Abby so badly.

(that was a fandom POV switch, btw)
SGA fic from mmmchelle for thegrrl2002's birthday. Happy Birthday! It is very appropriate for you to be given such fine fine smut in celebration, and I'm still in awe of how wonderfully tantric the build up of tension is in this fic. Rodney just stimulates John in all the right ways at the same time he's making him feel safe from the hoards of people wanting to celebrate his birthday. Fantastic stuff! Not just any smut, let me tell you; it's staying with me. Invisible by Day, by
mmmchelle.

in SG-1 news, I've no new fics to recommend, sadly (haven't had a lot of time to trawl through archives to rec older stuff either), except my own, which you can't have yet. *is sad* Actually, I think I've finished my remix fic, only tweaking the last bits and getting the wording smoothed (Wot? I know what I meant, but fortunately, my lovely beta RW won't let me get away with that-- to your benefit.)
This marks the second ficathon in which I got my piece finished waaaaay early for some reason; I actually think it has something to do with writing for another person. It's more important to me to write well if I'm not just writing for my own amusement. I had a whole simile to writing for a teacher I really cared about and for versus teachers that I didn't have a close relationship with, making amusing statements about how I didn't always get straight A's, in case you were wondering... but then I realized I was implying that the other teachers didn't actually read my assignments or that it didn't matter to me if they did, and that felt mean. Also? I realized it was a poor simile since I've yet to have any relationship with the people I've written for in ficathons beforehand soooo, there you go.
This is why I need betas, see? LOL.
So Rebecca?

And yup, on a dissertation writing rampage. Have added several thousand words in the last few days alone, and then come back to my hotel and written fic, so that's amazing, that my fingers aren't exausted. The change of location and the company were what did it, I think. It really is a retreat even though I'm really just hanging out with my lab, writing at a desk while they fly about doing their own science, because I can ask them for advice and talk stuff out whenever I get stuck, and having that very knowledgable audience around is also keeping me focused, because they can obviously tell the difference between my dissertation and fanfic on the computer screen, where my dog at home really can't (or doesn't care to, I haven't asked her.)
When I get home I shall remember these things and perhaps change location or otherwise try to recreate the environment if I get distracted. I'm likely to set my defense date when I get home, though, so that ought to be quite a motivator.
Also? Great icon. *g*

Date: 2006-03-04 10:12 pm (UTC)Aaaaaand, that would be another plot bunny moving in. Oh well, can't have enough Cam/Teal'c, can we? Dunno if I'm going to write it or go get sommat before settling into Farscape. Could be harder to write the meta-whinging if I'm watching on my computer at the same time, though.... I shall ponder while I go pick up a burrito.

LJ tag here
I also recommend her Paradigm shift series.
For a dark, angsty, h/c gen story.
The Window
Kikkimax wrote a wonderful NCIS-centric crossover with SG-1. Its got a hint of Tony/Daniel Jackson.

Those are the links off the top of my head. i'll send you more - i have to dig up the urls where they're posted since i first read them/saved them off the yahoo list.
And hooray for the dissertation work. You know the point about a specific diss/work space is so true. I know that is part of my problem. i've been trying to get a study carrel in the library, but can only do so much in there since i don't have a laptop. Yep, i need a dissertation retreat too.

Anyway, the crackfic was GRAND, not least for the way the characters interacted, but I have to admit that Aeryn and Teal'c were my favorite, though Vala and Aeryn were much fun.

From one fandom pimp to another.
And I think Rebecca may be one of those authors that I will read anything of. Regardless of fandom, pairing or subject. Anything.
Well, you're into some of that het stuff, anyway. I'm usually not, but since I adore Abby, I'm tempted, anyway. But then, Rebecca wrote this BDSM series with Gibbs and Abby, and I ignored it and ignored it...until she brought Tony in, and I could no longer resist...and now I think I've read them all about a dozen times.
There's only one that's heavy on the BDSM. Most of them are pretty light, Dom/sub kind of stuff, but she warns pretty heavily for the one darker piece, and it stands on it's own, so you can actually skip it and still read the rest with no problem. Anyway...it's called the Pavlov Series (http://blueraccoon.livejournal.com/tag/pavlov), and this link sends you to the Tags, so they're in reverse order, start at the bottom. I think you'll like them.
And speaking of fandom pimping...have you filled out the Jack/Daniel Ficathon Poll (http://greensilver.livejournal.com/285999.html) yet? From the way she phrased it, it looks like
Speaking of...I'm finishing up Part 6 of The Games Men Play tonight, and sending it off to the beta. Just thought you should know. (I know...it's about frackin' time!) *g*

Date: 2006-03-06 02:05 pm (UTC)Could be hard to jump in with both feet as I'm also developing my Farscape love and I've only seen a handful of episodes of NCIS from last season (I was told the Shower Scene was not to be missed--sometimes I love timezones). But I think I could do it for Rebecca's writing. Most of it doesn't seem too episode based, anyway.
p.s. You can borrow my pimp hat, but I do like your ballcap with devil's horns. *g*

Date: 2006-03-06 02:14 pm (UTC)But yeah, het doesn't bother me at all, I just want GOOD het, with two strong characters, and a girl who isn't passive. I think it's a fair bet that Rebecca's Abby wouldn't even give a character like that the time of day, so I'm good! LOL. Love BDSM, too, heavy or light. Only ever written a little light D/s bondage which I... haven't posted. Drat. Must take a look at that. Huh.
And lastly, you taunt me with Games! Yaaaay! Oh, hurts so good. Yes, I've taken greensilver's poll and the tone worried me there too, but even that first day there seemed to be a decent number of responses, d'you think she's still on the fence? I shall pimp. I shall pimp most thoroughly just as soon as I can. This stuff's important! *pets Jack and Daniel*

Here's the tag to dustyryder's ncis recs (http://community.livejournal.com/dustyrydersrecs/tag/fandom:+ncis). You'll probably be pleased to note that Rebecca is on top of the list, with my newest category: Favorite Authors. It needs to be updated...I wrote it before she started the Geometry Series. I'm due for some updates to that journal, anyway...soon, hopefully.
Anyway. Enjoy!

Somebody I've discussed fic with recently told me they didn't get into BDSM unless it was terribly lite. I think I mixed that person up with you. Der. Cool...you'll really enjoy the Pavlov series, then. Go, you...read!
no subject
Date: 2006-03-10 07:38 pm (UTC)Will post after the remix stories are revealed, though, so I don't inadvertantly give someone a heart attack. Next week-ish? If beta gives the okay.
BDSM doesn't need to be light on my account (perish the thought!) but I haven't really made the move into writing it before, maybe that's what we were talking about? Have read through some of Rebecca's other stuff already. Yowsa. Pavlov, now, yes? There's a fic in Stargate Fandom named that that I've avoided due to, I think, excessive whumping and possibly non-con warnings.
no subject
Date: 2006-03-10 08:52 pm (UTC)OMG, no! Unless you're speaking of a different one than I am, (Pavlov by Kalimyre (http://www.area52hkh.net/ask/kalimyre/pavlov.php)) someone has misled you. It's an Aliens Made Them Do It fic that centers around some alien's experimenting with Pavlovian responses. There is no whumping and no non-con...and it's So Freakin' Hot! It's one of my favorite SG-1 fic, ever. (I just realized I haven't rec'd it at dustyryder, that is a mistake I really need to correct.) You should definitely read it. ASAP. Seriously.
I mean it. :::nods head vigorously:::
Cool, you're doing the remix, huh? I thought about it, but it can't be PWP's and although my stories occasionally have some plot, they all mostly pretty much revolve around the sex. Ya know? I don't really have enough options to offer someone. Too bad. Maybe I'll write something that's not porn some day, and someone will take me seriously. (Not likely...on either account.) *g*
But that's cool...I can wait. It won't be long before the remix/redux is posted.
It may have been someone else I was talking to about BDSM, and talking to you about something else at the same time...I occasionally get my posts mixed up - and forget who I'm discussing which subject with. :::head desk:::
And oh, yeah, Rebecca's Pavlov Series is some hot shit! Did you notice she just wrote a new Pavlov fic a couple of days ago? Not a heavy one...just some nice, relaxing, HOT, threesome sex: Sensory Therapy (http://blueraccoon.livejournal.com/477848.html). Makes me happy...
no subject
Date: 2006-03-12 11:46 pm (UTC)But, OMG, Rebecca's Applied Psych series (what she officially named the Pavlov fics) was knock-you-down amazing. Especially once Tony cottoned on, because Gibbs asking Abby what to do and Abby saying 'I dunno, seduce him?' was just perfect and I got this clenching in my stomach in anticipation. *guh* Thanks for the link to Sensory Therapy too, that is just one amazing way to salvage a bad day...
