I'm not here; you can't see me.
Mar. 1st, 2006 07:01 pmI'm sort of doing a two week intensive course in finishing one's dissertation down here in Houston, and as a result haven't got a whole lot of leeway to be mucking around LJ and goofing off as I really do want to get some stuffs done.
But this shouldn't wait, because it's a plea. A PLEA, my flisters! There are few Teal'c disciples the way there are, say, Daniel disciples and even fewer people who take the chance and write the man. He is underloved, but it's crazy because even though the man is softspoken and stoic, he's also a father separated from his son, a widower who feels like a cuckold, a lover who has never made the same commitment he was able to make with his wife, a hero without a home, a student become teacher in the wrong classroom, a student of human behavior and possibly the perfect observer as well as being a most capable, controlled and powerful force.
Now, why isn't their more fiction written about Teal'c? Write him as a periphery character, as the subject, as one who has two lifetimes of backstory untouched by canon... or go over to
tealc_ficathon and sign up for a prompt and give some ideas for another to use and start there; because, let's face it, the guy is a little intimidating, with his perfect grammar and his lack of slang, and you gotta start somewhere.
There are few of us who are vocal about Teal'c, at least on my flist; this brand spankin' new ficathon could really use some participation beyond the core group of people we can reasonably rely on to represent. So consider going over there if you're a writer but haven't really been T focused, or if you're a fan but don't know where to start with writing, or if you've ever ever thought Teal'c ought to have a little more fanfic love. Go. People the ficathon. Take a chaaaaaaance!
You needn't write from Teal'c's POV, and so far the requests (there aren't many yet) are pretty open-ended, with mostly people just asking you to please, for the love of God avoid the mpreg stories. You can do that, right?
It won't hurt. Please think about it? Go look and laugh at my requests? Sign-ups open 'til the ides of March.
(Et tu, Brute?)

*starts working*

Date: 2006-03-01 10:09 pm (UTC)In breaking news: I have a headache now, and am waiting for the IT guy to come and install an anti-virus program on my laptop. You don't know of any Mac anti-spyware, do you? I'm worried, with all this travelling and unprotected sex, erm, hotel internet connections.
Have you looked at any of the thesis comms? I'm watching thesisordissert, I think is the name, and was glancing through women_grads but I don't know those guys and am not sure what I'd get out of joining. It mostly looks like a place where people chronically introduce themselves and periodically ask each other to fill out surveys on body image.

Date: 2006-03-02 12:28 am (UTC)Mac's are indestructible, but I hear of scary trojan viruses appearing in the last few weeks, and I'm bouncing about the country outside firewalls. Downloading stuff, you know. Better to be uberprotected, and now I'm happy girl. Must go see if I can attach the beta fic I read the other night for Sid now...

Date: 2006-03-05 05:16 pm (UTC)So, apparently RW and I talked dusty into playing, and prompting/being willing to write a slightly more specific aspect of Teal'c... *g* Heh. Anyway, wanted to say that, even though I can't go back and edit my requests/what I will write, that I am more than willing to write a little light D/s and would love to have graphic slash written for me, although I didn't specifically say so; to facilitate angst-free match-ups, you understand. I think I said I was open to anything on there and I MEANT it. *g* hee! Am excited for this ficathon. Have already started writing more fic just thinking about it.
I think I told someone there was something in the water in Texas leading to all this fic writing as well as dissertation production... but really, I think it's the change of location and just having a good writing environment.
