I'm not here; you can't see me.
Mar. 1st, 2006 07:01 pmI'm sort of doing a two week intensive course in finishing one's dissertation down here in Houston, and as a result haven't got a whole lot of leeway to be mucking around LJ and goofing off as I really do want to get some stuffs done.
But this shouldn't wait, because it's a plea. A PLEA, my flisters! There are few Teal'c disciples the way there are, say, Daniel disciples and even fewer people who take the chance and write the man. He is underloved, but it's crazy because even though the man is softspoken and stoic, he's also a father separated from his son, a widower who feels like a cuckold, a lover who has never made the same commitment he was able to make with his wife, a hero without a home, a student become teacher in the wrong classroom, a student of human behavior and possibly the perfect observer as well as being a most capable, controlled and powerful force.
Now, why isn't their more fiction written about Teal'c? Write him as a periphery character, as the subject, as one who has two lifetimes of backstory untouched by canon... or go over to
tealc_ficathon and sign up for a prompt and give some ideas for another to use and start there; because, let's face it, the guy is a little intimidating, with his perfect grammar and his lack of slang, and you gotta start somewhere.
There are few of us who are vocal about Teal'c, at least on my flist; this brand spankin' new ficathon could really use some participation beyond the core group of people we can reasonably rely on to represent. So consider going over there if you're a writer but haven't really been T focused, or if you're a fan but don't know where to start with writing, or if you've ever ever thought Teal'c ought to have a little more fanfic love. Go. People the ficathon. Take a chaaaaaaance!
You needn't write from Teal'c's POV, and so far the requests (there aren't many yet) are pretty open-ended, with mostly people just asking you to please, for the love of God avoid the mpreg stories. You can do that, right?
It won't hurt. Please think about it? Go look and laugh at my requests? Sign-ups open 'til the ides of March.
(Et tu, Brute?)

Date: 2006-03-01 12:23 am (UTC)Got a lot of things going for me in this boot camp idea, though; new place, new environment, restriction of normal LJ procrastination techniques (this is the first time I've let myself post)...

Ready? Set? Dissertate!

Date: 2006-03-01 02:11 am (UTC)I am planning for a six month (or so) break after this, though. I think I'll need it. Although, just to keep my brain happy, I'm going to do *different* stuff, like travel, write stories, paint stuff, be creative, not sciencey...

Date: 2006-03-01 02:31 am (UTC)and yay for a six month break. sounds like great plans for a delightful vacation.

Date: 2006-03-01 01:15 am (UTC)I'm not a writer, but I definitely look forward to reading the Teal'c ficathon results. and hopefully there will be some cam/teal'c :D
cheers and best wishes on the dissertation work!

Date: 2006-03-01 02:05 am (UTC)Also, if you want recs of the Cam/Teal'c variety (I totally requested that in an optional way on my ficathon request) I suggest you mosey over to the right hand side of my layout over there ---> and click on either the Teal'c or the Mitchell list o'recs, you'll find some yummy ones. I am a reccing fool, yes I am.
And listen, you string together sentences purty gud, are you suuuuure you won't write a little snippet of a snapshot of a moment of Teal'c goodness? And if you're at all on the fence about it, would it matter if I said I would help and you could bounce ideas off me and I'd alpha/beta read? Because, seriously, Cam/Teal'c. We need more Cam/Teal'c. And what better way to ensure more Cam/Teal'c than to WRITE SOME?
Um, I may have overdosed on the cheerleading enthusiasm pills. Sorry. *g* Thanks for the happy about the dissertation. Thing will be the death of me, but it hurts so gooooood.

Date: 2006-03-01 02:49 am (UTC)I'm hoping we can spread the Teal'c love because he was so underrep'd at the SG Fan Awards this past summer. I think Jonas fared better than he did. Of course by the time this is done, the noms period might be over anyway...
But more Teal'c fic! I mean, he doesn't even have to be anyone's fave character. Just more! MORE!
Must go find other LJ's to harass.
Oh, and we'll be doing Teal'c Fic Challenges too.

I don't want to write my thesis either, but it's nose to the grindstone day. I'm kinda excited, been pepping myself up for it. *bounces, stretches, warms up*

Date: 2006-03-01 02:54 pm (UTC)So they're really really sure that you're serious. I'm still working on the draft. Owowowow. My advisor is scheduled to read the rough draft of the introduction at the end of the week, which means... I have to finish the draft of the intro. Yeeeeeeeah.

Date: 2006-03-01 10:09 pm (UTC)In breaking news: I have a headache now, and am waiting for the IT guy to come and install an anti-virus program on my laptop. You don't know of any Mac anti-spyware, do you? I'm worried, with all this travelling and unprotected sex, erm, hotel internet connections.
Have you looked at any of the thesis comms? I'm watching thesisordissert, I think is the name, and was glancing through women_grads but I don't know those guys and am not sure what I'd get out of joining. It mostly looks like a place where people chronically introduce themselves and periodically ask each other to fill out surveys on body image.

Date: 2006-03-01 10:12 pm (UTC)And uhoh to tech man. I thought there was this legend that Mac's were indestructable?

Date: 2006-03-02 12:28 am (UTC)Mac's are indestructible, but I hear of scary trojan viruses appearing in the last few weeks, and I'm bouncing about the country outside firewalls. Downloading stuff, you know. Better to be uberprotected, and now I'm happy girl. Must go see if I can attach the beta fic I read the other night for Sid now...

Date: 2006-03-05 05:16 pm (UTC)So, apparently RW and I talked dusty into playing, and prompting/being willing to write a slightly more specific aspect of Teal'c... *g* Heh. Anyway, wanted to say that, even though I can't go back and edit my requests/what I will write, that I am more than willing to write a little light D/s and would love to have graphic slash written for me, although I didn't specifically say so; to facilitate angst-free match-ups, you understand. I think I said I was open to anything on there and I MEANT it. *g* hee! Am excited for this ficathon. Have already started writing more fic just thinking about it.
I think I told someone there was something in the water in Texas leading to all this fic writing as well as dissertation production... but really, I think it's the change of location and just having a good writing environment.

Date: 2006-03-01 02:16 pm (UTC)You're in Houston? I'm really impressed with what I've seen so far (weather doesn't hurt). You don't have a recommendation for a good Indian restaurant, do you?
no subject
Date: 2006-03-01 02:39 pm (UTC)On the bright side, you liked it, lol. And it's not like we can remember every little fic we've read anyway.
Sadly, I have absolutely no reccomendations for Indian. I've never tried it, and I pretty much stay up on the NW side of town and there are not a lot of really *great* restaurants of any sort up this way- that I've discovered yet. I think the best place we've been in a while is Fogo de Chao, which is a pricey but good Brazillian steakhouse with a killer salad bar. It's on Westheimer

Date: 2006-03-01 02:52 pm (UTC)Come to think of it, this is not looking good for my memory skills, is it? *worries*
I think I'm... central. Yeah, maybe right in the middle? Dunno. My friend K is a coworker here and she loves Indian but hasn't found a really great restaurant yet. I'm on the lookout (I love ethnic food. Had some really good Pho the other day, but I think we could do better.)

And... ooh, I definitely have a couple of writers in mind that I'll push your way.
OMG Teal'c!
Date: 2006-03-01 02:12 pm (UTC)At bare minimum you can count on me to pimp the fics when they're posted, but you know you can join the community or watch it without any obligation to buy now, right?
And, despite appearances, I'm actually just a cheerleader and participant, so if you push people to me I'll in most cases just direct them over to
Re: OMG Teal'c!
Date: 2006-03-02 06:55 pm (UTC)But, when I said push people to you, I meant to the ficathon :) Don't worry.

Date: 2006-03-01 08:54 am (UTC)Mitchell gasped for air as he came back down to earth. "Damn, T, you're heavy!" he grunted.
"No heavier than I was before your orgasm, Col. Mitchell."
Teal'c slid one powerful arm around Mitchell's waist and obligingly rolled them both to their sides without breaking contact.
"Thought I told you to call me Cam. We're naked. We did... things to each other. We've eaten Sam's cooking together and survived. I think we can drop the title at least."
"As you wish, Cam. How did you like your demonstration of 'The Way of the Warrior'?"
Mitchell's lips twitched a bit into an almost smile. "I'm intrigued enough to want to know more even though it wasn't what I expected."
The famous Teal'c eyebrow move curved elegantly upwards. "Surely you did not expect a novice like yourself to be anything other than bottom?"
"Well, my nickname is Shaft."
The End. :o)

Date: 2006-03-03 01:54 pm (UTC)IMHO it'd only be mean to the organizer if it made it impossibly difficult to match you up with anyone's requests, and that's obviously not the case here. So not awful at all - go sign up! *g*

Date: 2006-03-03 02:36 pm (UTC)I second RW, here, go for it, and absolutely say you'll write Cam/Teal'c, and request Cam/Teal'c if you want to; I don't think it'll be a problem for Moonshayde to match you up at all.
