You know, flist, every once in a while (amounting to a near weekly basis at this point), I sit back and realize that my life is Damn Fine. Take this weekend, for example. I spent it boating 30 miles out to a fantastic island, to camp for two nights with my team, then paddle back really damn early this morning. Now, some of you might feel this is insane (and at 4:30 this morning when the wake-up call came in, I was totally agreeing with you), but I would also point out that I got in some quality bonding time with the Boy Who Hugs Well, deepened some great friendships, and laughed so hard it feels like an ab workout. Also, I got much tanner, which I really need to stop doing because I already look like an alien.

But anyway. I've caught up with my brother since I got home, had a beer that went right to my head, and am now chatting with you while my housemate makes me Vietnamese food (one of my favorites). Also, the chihuahua is scheming to get into my lap.

Life is good, people, that's all I'm saying. Perhaps I should sit on the couch rather than the floor, though, because I am *sore*, dangit! Yes, in my arse muscles. And everywhere else too, thanks (you people have no sympathy.)

Nothing but love for you. It's going to take me forever to catch up, too. Bear with me.

I'm glad that this move and job have worked out so well for you. After all your hard work, you deserve this kind of happiness! However...stop damaging your skin! Seriously. You are smart enough to know what it's doing to you and what it can lead to. Don't make me tell you horror stories about my DH's brush with skin cancer. And moisturize like hell!

Oh, don't I know it. And really, Californians think I'm overreacting and tend to compliment me on my brownness. I think it's bad, actually, though I probably look a lot less like an alien than I claim (it's just my code for 'this is not good for me')

However, this is my defense: My skin likes to turn brown. I wear SPF 50 every day I'm out in the sun between 10 and 4, and I wear a *lot* of it. BUT, I also am out in or on the ocean for upwards of 10-20 hours every friggin' week, and there's just no way that my skin will stay pale with that kind of incentive.

I can only promise to continue wearing sunscreen, my long-sleeve paddling clothes, and never, ever deliberately sunbathe. Because I'm addicted to the ocean.

It's nice to have someone wag their finger at me when I say stuff like that, though--please continue to do so. Californians, they do not understand my alarm about my skin color.
