The Sam Carter bashing that seems to have hit yet another crest (trough) lately sucks.

The ibarw comm, idea and associated memage = teh awesome.

I just finished the second of two major writing projects (and thwarted my negligent graduate school advisors attempt to keep me from succeeding in science). WIN.


...now maybe I can play with posting for ibarw and the Teal'c recs at stargateficrec and perhaps even *gasp* write something!

But first: nap.

I'm sad to say I'm gald that all the Sam bashing is SGA-related so I can avoid having to deal with it for debrief, lest I lose my shit and start raining down firey rage all across fandom.

I do get that there are folk out there who get their squee on by finding the flaws in their shows. And I get it, more or less, because the flaws are why I write fic, in some cases, and sometimes they irk me.

But the bashing is weak. I have no respect or tolerance for it.

And I'm deeply glad for the ability to carve out a little happy place over here in the corner.

It's linked in my LJ (or rather in my LJ I link to holdouttrout's post which links to it) but essentially, yeah, it's SGA fans and it's this contest for people who hate Sam to write as many fics possibly killing her permanently with the "winner" (unclear how that is decided) getting 6 months of paid LJ time and it's a wankilicious comment thread with the usual "I'm a strong woman and that makes it okay for me to hate and want to kill a female character" and other such um, dren.

The bashing itself registered less on my radar than the fact that people I like, fen I genuinely care about, were deeply, deeply upset.

It's almost worse.

If I had it in me, I'd write some Teal'c and Sam friendship fic right now. Seriously. I have half a story in my brain, but it's the sloshed half, sadly.

Some people seem to thrive on the hate thing. I'm more positive!girl. That is, unless a character really pisses me off. *g* But seriously, I just don't have the energy to spend hating fictional characters for more than a minute or two. Certainly not long enough to join a com and wallow in it.

I think the worst I've ever gotten was dislike paired with ignoring. Like Landry, for example; not my favorite character, nor one I have any interest in. I still wrote a fairly positive role for him in the FinaleFic, though.

Where does dislike get so strong that you would rather spend all that fic writing energy focusing on a character you dislike so you can kill them off? When does it become reasonable in your head to go homicidal, even fictionally? I just don't get it.

I do not enjoy hate.

Exactly! If I hate someone with a passion, the last thing I want to do is spend time with them. I'm hedonistic enough that I'd rather spend my time with people I like.

Me too. I'm all about loving my show and love-fests are the best response to the nasties. Plus they make me happy instead of making me angry.

(again, no worries about beta - probably won't look at it again until after apocafic ficzilla finishes)
