The fire in central California has spread ash on the wind. The change in the wind has brought the ash down on our cars and decks and patio furniture, and most reactions here are along the lines of 'I just washed my car, man!' I, who have not just washed my car and really should, keep seeing dead trees, burned houses; it's somehow different than burning things in a campfire on the beach.

But it's changed the air; the moon last night was nearly full and washed with pale orange. Feels very strangely comforting.

Random thing you might not know about me: I am in killer shape at the moment. My little boating habit (I CAN QUIT AT ANY TIME) is turning me into this shapely, strong body. You might think that sounds a little distanced, but it's a strange thing to see the wrong shape in the mirror, even if it's subtle. It's the difference between feeling grounded and feeling like my arm is much more grabable now. Like, a good sized hand could cup my bicep and YANK, and it would be a good enough hold that I'd have to go. Before, I had the safety of knowing that, you know, the hypothetical grab would at least require *two* hands.

Shuddup, I know I'm stronger; it's the principle of the thing. I don't know what to do with the fact that I'm smaller in odd ways.

As long as we're doing random things you might not know about me, feel free to ask some questions, fannish or otherwise (example: do you have any phobias? Answer: no, I fear nothing. I'm sure that irritates people. On the other hand, I've never even once felt the need to inhale poisonous burning chemicals into my lungs, so it's clearly not paired with a need to try everything or being an adrenaline junky so much as thinking bungee jumping would be cool.) I'll collect said questions and put the answers into a post or something. I just... I keep this pretty fannish here, but it's not for lack of interest in talking about myself, obviously. Ask anything you like, I will screen for things that are too RL-y.

Now, on to the recs, because I'm trying not to let the list get quite as out of hand as it did last time.

Snooze Alarm, by [livejournal.com profile] minkmix (her handle sounds a little like mine! It's like we're twins! but not!) is very awesome day-in-the-life gen. I love the descriptions of the reactions, Dean's choices, Sam's choices, and how perfectly normal it seemed even when it really isn't. Gen, SPN, worksafe unless Christmas themed boxers are going to be a problem.

Standard Deviations by [livejournal.com profile] rustler is a fantastic kind of quantum mirror fic. It's John/Rodney, but it's also a mystery, and worry, and the relationship has the right place within that; neither the whole world nor insignificant. SGA, John/Rodney, NC-17.

Another SGA is House Keys by [livejournal.com profile] dogeared. It's a part of an AU in which, apparently, John and Rodney live on Nantucket. I haven't read the rest (you know me and AUs) but this little snippet felt very in character for both John and Rodney; that John would invite someone into his house, meaningfully, when he wasn't there, just seems terribly right.

I would like to take the time to thank the reccers who pointed me to those stories. I'm sure one of them was [livejournal.com profile] amothea, actually. Thank you.

Then, there's [livejournal.com profile] katie_m, which I found All By Myself. Yup, Katie with her awesome plotty stories and apocafic universes where characters and relationships change and change and stay the same. Katie wrote a sequel for In The Wrong Story (great fic, go read it) called Wandering Blind. Katie has a way with Jack, so this has characteristically fabulous Jack voice even as he tries, like, really hard, to stay out of Sam and Daniel's business. (Except he's already there, and they are totally incapable of dealing themselves--I mean, it's Sam and Daniel, but it's SAM AND DANIEL.) As poly situations go, this is possibly the most believable way these three would come to those kinds of desires and decisions. Poly, apocafic, NC-17, not worksafe, but wonderful, not least for the use of zombies to further the story. SG-1, Sam, Jack, Daniel in various combinations.

Then, the story that I feel is best recced with the phrase hot damn I love Vehemently's stories. But if you need more information, this is an AU in which one choice is made, it's made by John, and it greatly, GREATLY influences Sam and Dean. It doesn't change the actions of the supernatural world around them enough, though, and it's creepy, like the best horror film, watching the story unfold. Clangs, SPN, gen, work-safe, by [livejournal.com profile] vee_fic.

[livejournal.com profile] princessofg's Moonlight: happy, good stuff. Nice balm for creepy-arsed Supernatural fic. Jack/Daniel, sweetness, not worksafe, though.

Oh, here's another nice one: Corner of the Eye by [livejournal.com profile] kellifer_fic (sometimes it's really nice to follow people into new fandoms, you know?) in which there's a problem, Sam learns things, and it's fixed and... it's interesting and sweet and intimate and fraternal and lovable and supernatural. SPN, gen, worksafe.

Seekrit to [livejournal.com profile] abyssinia4077: Wednesday is beta day. Sorry for being so tardy.

As Katie said in comments, Jack is very much 'Not looking, not thinking about it, not interfering... OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.'

He's very committed to avoidance, until he's not. That's our boy.

It's funny to me how these stories get ordered, because it is me going straight down a random list. I love when I have a story like Moonlight accidentally right after something intensely angsty. It's like balm, but I do worry that I under explain why I'm reccing. Glad it still makes you happy. Thank you for writing.

Thank you!

not least for the use of zombies to further the story

Are you implying that they needed the deaths of several billion people and the threat of being eaten by zombies to get their acts together?

...yeah, okay.

Zombies: good for what ails ya. Many and varied uses!

(also, omg suddenly it's so *obvious*)

The threat of evil zombies was necessary for them to get their acts together and start shagging, obviously

(and, um, if I'm using completely unfinished sentences, chances are it's late, and I'm referring to whatever you've just said. Um.)

Seekrit message to [livejournal.com profile] minxy: Seriously. Real life is Super Busy and the few minutes I'm managing to steal for fandom I'm trying (not overly successfully) to pound out my [livejournal.com profile] apocalypse_kree story so I don't have to give part of my soul to [livejournal.com profile] surrealphantast so, really, I'm so not concerned about you being tardy. Or even tardier than Wednesday if need be.

There's a fire? How'd I miss that?
My senior year of college ALL the mountains were on fire from LA to San Diego and the final evacuation line was less than mile from my school. We would sit in our rooms doing homework and *listen* to the ash hitting the ground outside - it looked like snow, but definitely did not smell like snow. Freaky, but YES on the gorgeous sky effects. (also, yay to it meaning we got to do an entire unit of fire recovery in my ecology class)

OMG, my life tooooo!!!! *clings in OMGRLISBUSY!sympathy*

Thank goodness for a long weekend at home.

Yes, it's been burning for, er, couple of weeks in a town called...Mason? Or did I just read that somewhere else? I dunno. RL, yanno. *handwaves* North of LA, though, I'm pretty sure it's central Cali.

Dawww... thanks for the rec hon. Heheee.. I'm *still* surprised when I see a comment from you on an SPN story... *laughs*

Oh... *rubs hands* lots of lovely stuff to read when I'm home. I think between you and [livejournal.com profile] amothea I really don't have to try to find anything myself... :D

Whhhhyyyyyyyyyyyyy???????????????? I read SPN. I do! I just... I didn't get quite as obsessed, shall we say, as I did with Stargate. Am monofannish by nature, it seems.

Hehehee... I must be... tri-fannish? Stargates and SPN for the most part... *laughs*

The balance is tilting. I'm waiting for the new season to see if SPN is truly going to own my soul for the next little while.

I got into SG-1 because of Carter, though, so who knows?
