There are no Harry Potter spoilers in this post.
I've got about twenty more fics to rec here; I figure it will make a nice break from the LJ kerfuffle (which I am apparently completely ignoring) and Potterdammerung (I have only just realized that the book will be out tomorrow. For lo, I am not on top of these things).
On the other hand (and I say this as a person completely non-plussed about the kerfuffle and whatnot) FUCKING HELL, BUSH. And, and AND, why is it I always find out about these things from my British friends? WHAT UP, JOURNALISTS? GET YOUR HEADS OUT YOUR ASSES.
Let's think about something nice, shall we? How 'bout some fanfic.
Supernatural gen, a day in the life of Dean's inner monolog (a la Brigit Jones) from
mcee: Nice Dean voice, short and fun. Untitled. Gen, post S2 finale, worksafe.
SG-1, Sam and Vala, space pirates is always good. And Stars Awaken Above Me Sam/Vala. NC-17 from
splash_the_cat.
SG-1, "Take These Broken Wings [2]" from
synecdochic. Link takes you to the second in this series she's writing, but all of it is really worth looking at, if nothing else for the incredibly surprising way her most unusual pairing turns out to be one of the happiest and most well-adjusted ever in Gate'verse. Her Cam is incredibly astute, stubborn and adaptable (and dealing with completely plausible lingering issues from his back injury in this AU) and her Jack is clone!Jack, the younger one, who has made some deliberate decisions to not be the other guy again, and who is loving his new freedoms. For a couple of fairly badass guys, they are just so HAPPY. Must be all that sex. Not worksafe.
SGA:
chopchica: Fic: Take a Chance on Me (Sheppard/McKay, NC-17, part 1 of 3, series complete). Nice, long story with a variation on Alien yentas, in this case, wonky alien 'know thyself' hoodoo, directed at Sheppard, who does an admirable job of deflecting and avoiding as much as humanly possible. Darn those alien disco balls. NC-17, slash.
SGA gen from
sga_flashfic: Snow Men, by
mahoni (Exhaustion challenge) John and Ronon, with good guy voices and a nice little coping interlude where they manage. I loved John's apprehension about Ronon waking up, actually. Worksafe.
SG-1 (Jack/Daniel and Sam/Daniel)
what_works (emdash) gives us Five Ways Daniel Tells Sam That He's Been Sleeping With Jack R-rated, not worksafe, if memory serves. Very nice set of Five Things, though, without character bashing on any count.
SG-1 finalefic: Da Capo again from
splash_the_cat. This is Sam and Teal'c at the finale, and lovely. But then, I have a HUGE MASSIVE WEAKNESS FOR SAM AND TEAL'C FINALEFIC. (ahem) Gen, worksafe.
Remix: quid ex quo (the something something remix of Sid's 'quid pro quo') by
paian. Have I told you about this one already? Well, it's a wonderful lazy Saturday kind of story. Read it while you're waiting for the mailman with your HP book or something. Jack/Daniel, not worksafe.
SG-1 from
ana_grrl. Incredible Luck, Annoying Charm (Teal'c, Vala, PG) Fantastic aliens bonding story (I've read some nice Vala gen lately) while figuring out how to beat the silly Earth people at their silly basketball game. Worksafe.
Firefly: Eris from
nestra. Fairly hilarious, but absolutely in character, with wonderful voices and such. There is story involving Jayne's Momma, which, you know, completely in character and all, but everyone, even Wash's one-liners, sound pitch perfect in this. Slash, Jayne/Mal, not worksafe.
SG-1 from the
sd_ficathon: From Such Great Heights. Author is
triplesnap, and this is a nice little sleepy comforting almost morning after, with all Daniel's angst, per force. Nothing is sugarcoated, but this is still sweet. R-rated, and I'll err on the side of not worksafe, though there is really only one brief mention of anything explicit, and no naughty bits.
SG-1: OOH another Sam/Daniel Ficathon Fic: "Beneath the Waves" from
rowan_d, and it's a fantastic story. Hurt and comfort and reason and friendship and elegant need warring with independance. Sam and Daniel, pre-ship and worksafe, wonderful sensory descriptions and Sam voice and unreliable narrator.
SGA: Deeply from
thegrrrl2002 which, at the time, totally made my day. Easy, wonderful, surprising, intimate, all that stuff. John/Rodney, not-worksafe.
SG-1/SGA crossover: Five ways Daniel improves Atlantis from
findo is Jack/Daniel Five Things and funny, seriously very entertaining. Worksafe.
SG-1 apocafic: Temperate from
thassalia is Vala knowing how to live, and Cameron coming around to it and learning from her. It's a threesome fic with Teal'c being oddly hysterical in counterpoint to this wonderful bleak setting. NC-17, S10 without spoilers, very nice comfort. For
sugargroupie's Wallsex Challenge.
SGA femslash: All the Pleasures Prove (Emmagan/Weir) [NC-17] from
havoc_the_cat. Interesting take on AMTDI, and owning the choice. Plus the boys were cute. Not worksafe.
SG-1: I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this before, but it's one of my favorite pairings, so.
niamaea's Cameron/Teal'c ficlet about movies. Seriously. And Daniel is adorably clueless and dirtyminded at the same time.
SG-1 fic: Carry Me Home (het, slash) from
friendshipper. BECAUSE YES I LOVE FINALEFIC. And this one is excellent. Teal'c voice is grand, the undercurrents of emotions going on behind the physical intimacy are wonderful, and it has a wonderful yearning playing with all the sense of being home and awareness of the gift of all of it. This is poly, multiple partners, and not worksafe.
jenlev has said that she feels that Teal'c really needed the time of the finale to distance himself from soldiering, because that is just too close to First Prime, and friendshipper's fic does a nice job, to my mind, of letting Teal'c learn from his time, and consider all of it, gains and loss, as a terribly valuable gift.
And this would be a good time to mention that
rydra_wong has called for a meme of sorts: August 6-12, grab the Character of Color/Colour of your choice, and then pimp like whoa. Start planning now, use any means at your disposal, and love on your character. It's about celebrating and I'm all for it. I do believe I shall participate. There might be meta involved. I may talk about Teal'c and the finale. I may write down that story that's being told in my head. Not sure yet. There are many days in the week, after all.
Was that twenty? I added some, I took some out, I discovered some duplicates in my del.i.cious list. So. That folder is all clear, at least until I dive in to the To Read list of links.
