Normally, when LJ gets the hiccups, I only know about it because my flist sort of explodes. Today, on my weekend LJ surfing, I actually ran into trouble posting. So I thought, as one does, why not POST A RECS LIST???
I like to keep you guessing. Just when I have your expectations down reeeeeaaally low....
So.
The story that prompted this recs list, for I was unable to leave nice feedback:
kellifer_fic's Sam/Daniel fic for
paian in the
sd_ficathon, With Benefits, which is one of the very best stories of friends with no strings sleeping together I've ever seen. It's late seasons, Jack is hilarious and Sam and Daniel have a wonderful canonical distance between them, while still being in sync enough to pull the same assignment. I also enjoyed Teal'c's brief but memorable appearance. There is nothing quite so wonderful as a Sam/Daniel piece in character. PG-13, worksafe.
While we're at it: Sam and Daniel, apocafic of an incredible sort, where they both go on wildly different journeys and still come back to standing side by side at the front lines. The Selves We Had to Be. PG, friendship, worksafe, from
abyssinia4077 for Thea's Reunion Challenge last month.
I haven't read all the ficathon stories yet, of course. I... may not get around to it. You know how it is.
But, you should know about this little gem:
6beforelunch wrote an achy little Sam and Vala friendship story after it all kind of goes to hell... or rather, Daniel goes ascended again. It's a coming back together of friends who made the mistake of drifting apart in grief. It's really a sweet story, and I love the bang-on dialog from Cam and Jack. That Our Feet May Leave, But Not Our Hearts. Canon het, friendship, G rated, worksafe.
So, in a slight departure, here, a slash AU. Only this is my kind of AU, in which we get to see different influences on our boys: different music, different place, different architecture, different war. And yet, still Jack and Daniel, still that crazy connection that makes it old married love even when it's also a sweet first time. I love that princessofg writes these moments between them so well and often. It's like, a gift to fandom. Maybe It Was Memphis and Part 2. Jack/Daniel, NC-17, not worksafe.
This is ridiculously adorable. John/Rodney, kid-fic, pretty darned in character, considering. Supersymmetry from
lallybrock. Work-safe.
mmmchelle, sometime back in April, wrote a rather fantastic Five Things for Sam that says volumes with brevity. Four People Sam Carter Wishes She'd Slept With, and One She Wishes She Hadn't. R rated or NC-17, so not so much with the worksafe.
Tallulah Rasa, who is a marvelous author and alas, not on LJ, posted a response to the One Last Jaunt (finalefic in 38 minutes or less) challenge at
sg1_ever_after and it's kind of magnificent. Cameron in particular = magnificent. And the plan, of course. As Planned. Team, Gen. Worksafe.
I'm having trouble following the link for some reason (I shall assume transient hiccups in the LJ mothership) but my notes call it a "sweet, gentle, day in the life", John/Rodney from
suki_blue. Rated R. A Day Like Any Other.
And, for a Supernatural rec, a normal day of chaos and bravery. Plus an original character I *loved*. Breathe On, Sister, from
vee_fic. Lovely and gen and worksafe. And Dean. PG.
And that, ladies and gents, concludes all the links I've managed to keep track of for the last month or so. I think I've lost my touch. *waggles fingers thoughtfully*

Date: 2007-05-27 04:11 am (UTC)Laughter at work I think is a good thing.
Graphic images in the sidebars I hadn't thought about. I mean, I default to ?style=mine, so I wonder if I'm directing people to LJs with huge headers or background manips that would raise eyebrows. Hrmmmmm.... (Is it bad that I think that would be kind of funny?)

Date: 2007-05-27 04:36 am (UTC)Heh. Actually, that is kind of funny. I'm used to seeing LJ stuff in the default format. I almost never see other folk's layouts. (Which is probably a shame since I am sure they've all put such hard work in making them pretty.)
