Yup, so here I am, still alive, still kicking... still busy as heck and reduced to a weekend LJ-er. It's seriously cutting into my fic-reading schedule, as you may imagine. Then again, the ending of my show was likely to have had the same effect eventually.

And I am wierdly mono-fannish, if you hadn't noticed. I read in lots of fandoms, but I'm only *driven* to participate in one, usually. I dig Supernatural, and I actually managed to watch most of the ep on Thursday (my housemate's occasional interruptions with entertaining conversation notwithstanding) but it's still not challenging Stargate as my first love. Maybe if Stargate abdicates the throne, but not before, likely.

So for now I'm just watching SPN when I remember to and occasionally soaking up a little fanfiction when I have the time. Much like I am with Farscape, actually.

So.

Um. I've been up to stuff? I seem to be golden child at work and can do no wrong, even when I'm challenging the title of a paper by our collaborator (it seems to be welcome to challenge on those grounds in the manner that I did.) I have friends coming already on Tuesday and I'm barely settled in, but they know that and are prepared to haul themselves off to Disneyland or pack a book over to the beach on days I'd really like to be at work.

I raced on Saturday after a mere single practice with this team. It's a type of paddling that I've done before but never with such focus. It's long distance and so I stepped into a 10 mile race with little but my dry-land fitness and a deep love of the water to keep my upper body working, but I loved every minute. Team is good, sport is good, there's a really cute boy on the team who is probably younger than I am. On this team everyone seems to be younger than I am, save the coaches. It leads to some worry about practice scheduling and pressure to be there so early in the evening on work days. But really it led to overhearing one of the girls saying to another that they'd been called kids by another team 'just because we don't have 30 or 40-year-olds.' I told her that I'd be 30 in a little over a month and she blinked a few times and said 'you're not 30!'

I mean. Dude. I will be come July. I have proof. *flashes three forms of government ID with date of birth*

Why don't people ever believe me? I find this to be key because big round number birthdays should be celebrated and it's harder to do that if people don't believe you that it's a round number. S' my point.

I'm trying to think about my remix, but it's possible that my setting things earlier with a different POV might be too outside the original fic. But these are the actions that reverberate all throughout the remix story, so I'm inclined to try it and see if Synec will read beta for me again and give it the go ahead. (Duuuude, I know the mod! *drops names*)

Anyway, that is precisely all the fannish I got going on. I'm doing some drive-by reading and commenting on stories, but the chances of my organizing myself into proper reccing are low, methinks. I'll understand if this means I'll lose your attention. I think I've got to do another little trim of the flist soon. I can not keep up.

It makes me happy whenever I do log on and see all of you here, though. I hope you are well.

{{{you}}} glad things are going well, and that they properly appreciate you. still, i hope that you get some time to read and plotz. and i also hope that there will continue to be sg1 fic posted even though the show has ended. :)

Well, I really do need to make some time if I'm going to meet the remix deadline. And I'd hate to back out on the commitment.

I hope there continues to be fic too.

see, this is why we all need a personal tardis...so we can step sideways and have the time to finish things.

er...ok, so if everyone did have a tardis it would be utter chaos, eh? ;)

and yup, yay for fic. *hugs*

*nods* I'm going to be 31 in July and today I was mistaken for 18 - 20. Granted, most people have stopped asking what grade I'm in, anyway.

YES. I mean, as much as I appreciate the automatic student discount, I am deliberately wearing grown-up clothes for a reason.

Actually, I'm not complaining about looking young per se, but I have no wish to actually be that young again, and in this university and on this team for the first time in a while most of the people around me are younger. Sometimes a lot younger. It's unusual for me.

Glad to see you post, sweetie. I was just thinking of you earlier today and wondering what you've been getting up to, what with all the newness in your life.

I'm happy that you're happy, and believe me, I understand RL getting in the way of the online one. I think I've been missing for a couple of weeks here myself. Just don't disappear for good, 'k?

Getting up to lots of joy and excitement, which I ought to share more often, though it's surprisingly hard to find the words. Ought to go say hi on the backyard board, I suppose. Still don't have a reliable land connection, though, and wireless with chatting = not so much love. One of these days I'll log on for a proper Friday night chat. maybe for the finale? That would be cool.

I miss you guys. Glad you're well, though. How's your RL?

Work is busy, which is good. Especially with hubby still not working. We've got some major home remodeling projects in the planning stage so that's been taking up some time too, what with contractors and bankers and such.

I've not made it to many chats either, but I really need to do that soon. But by the time Fridays roll around, I just need to crash. A proper chat for the finale sounds like a good idea, though. That would be cool!

{{{{{Minxy}}}}} I was thinking about you the other day! I'm so glad to hear that things are going well. There is nothing like The Good Life, is there? It seems like you're fitting right in--making friends, doing stuff, living the life. Go you! Enjoy the hell out of it. :)

See? This is why I miss this place. I am enjoying the hell out of it, but I have to admit that I could do with a few more days like this one where I don't have a million and one commitments, though the commitments are fun too.

I really need to get better at sunscreen, though.

I'm doing the Remix thingy for the first time - eep! Think it will go all right, but I may have to scrape to come up with the minimum number of words.

Still haven't read the last fic you wrote, but it's in the queue. :-)

I'm really pleased to have done a remix before, so I have some confidence going in. My main difference of attitude comes from feeling less like I have to please the author and more like there are such great alternate ways I could tell a slightly different angle on that story and maybe resonate with the original. It does help that the author I'm remixing is one I really respect, of course.

I hope you like the Jack/Daniel one. I've had feedback of the gushy variety and I've honestly had a 'WTF? I don't get it and I'm MAD you must break this down and explain it to me!!!!eleventy'

Hey, has the finale aired yet? I have this other finale fic that I should really post, you know, then. *is lame and out of touch*

Nope, no finale yet. June sometime I think.

My remix is essentially done - now I just need to incorporate my betas' notes and make it all shiny. :-)

Turned out I had already read your story, I just had forgotten! I'd left the bookmark in place (probably so I could go back and read it again in light of certain revelations that take place towards the end of it). I won't claim to understand it in exactly the way you as the author do, but interpreting mysterious goings on is FUN!!eleventy!

Sounds like things are going really awesome and I'm so excited to hear that! I hope it continues in the splenderifous (that's not a word, is it?) direction!

I definitely understand what you mean about being mono-fannish -> I watch Supernatural when I remember (and I have a local fangirl who ropes me in) and I've been discovering Farscape, but my brain only wants to really fan Stargate.

Glad to know I'm not the only one people never believe about ages - no one ever believes I'm 25. I suppose eventually I'll be glad people think I look younger than I am?

Your remix plan sounds fine to me...I think...

Keep having real life fun, because it sounds awesome, and we'll be happy to have you whenever you can sneak time for us. Promise.

It's a wierd distinction for me between being monofannish and having an OTP. I definitely have A Show, but I will ship anyone on that show together if I find it even remotely interesting or revealing about the characters somehow.

*Waves from across t'pond*

*Nods wisely in agreement*
I'm very much like that too - although I only really have two fandoms that I read in regularly (NCIS and Doctor Who and one which I'm having an on/off 'thing' with (Man from U.N.C.L.E Blond spys get me every damn time!)but the only fandom I'm writing for on a regular basis is NCIS though I'd like to write Doctor Who too but I am waiting....

Although - I would heartily recommend adding S3 Doctor Who to your schedule when it re-starts in July. You are going to like Martha Jones a hell of a lot. I can almost guarantee this.

I think I've got to do another little trim of the flist soon. I can not keep up.

Do what you gotta do. Won't hold it against you. Just wave every so often, so it's known you're still on the same planet as the rest of us!

I do always love Dr. Who when I see it, but there are so many cast changes all the time that I've never really fallen in love with the characters (prolly my own fault for inconsistant watching). I hear good things about Martha. Is she sticking around for a while?

I'm managing about twice a week these days, but with guests in town it's going to take a little while before I can manage more than that.

The paddling is awesome. Zen and incredible and there's a really cute, tall boy wot gives excellent hugs and seems to be single (and possibly younger than I am, but that's unconfirmed.)

*bounces on you* Good to hear from you again huni, glad things are going well for you and you're settling in ok.

I know what you mean about the big birthday thing, my 30th was a couple of weeks ago. As for the monofannishness, I think you're in good company here :) I don't read much other than SG-1 fic these days as I don't get much of a chance. Dr Who fic can be fun though I'm still not convinced by Martha on the new series. I think it'll be another case of suck-it-and-see on that one.

Enjoy your paddling, I don't get much of a chance to anymore, but I bet the water there is warmer than it is here (no need for thermals LOL).

So, Monkey, tell me truly: is it as wild and wacky as they say? Heh.

Nope, no thermals required. We wear long sleeves to protect us from the sun (I need a cap to better protect my head and face, actually), but there's quite a lot of wetting down the shirts before the race so we don't get too hot in the hour and a half we're usually out there.
