I'm starting with the Farscape recs, which is only a little bit ridiculous since they were recc'd to me in comments in this very journal, but with prodigious use of exclamation points I was told to report on my findings, and here we are. By season, more or less, because my gorgeous flist is reccing fics that won't spoil me past episodes seen at that moment. How I love thee, my 'scaper flist pals; I probably don't tell you that enough.

To be updated as the reading permits and I work through all the wonderful titles you guys have pointed to.

Season 1& 2

In the Space Between by Scapekid is a marvelous sensual, if uncomfortable, tale of frustration, hurt, lashing out, protecting and plans that shouldn't work. Loved John's voice, loved Aeryn's allowances and fear of children, loved the OC, loved the Earth memories.

A Set of Common Tools by KodiakkeMax I loved for the exploration of the feeling that you are out of your depth, and letting a background character be the hero of his own story. Set during A Hidden Memory.

Set just after A Hidden Memory: Asystole by Maayan. Gorgeous pained stream of consciousness. Loved the scientist in John, the logic and trying to fix what was wrong; adored Aeryn's sincerity. NC-17.

Maybe there should be a subset of just Hidden Memory related fics? Probably. In any case, Shaye's (aka [livejournal.com profile] fourteenlines) Foolish Girl is another perspective and a fine, multilayered psychological complexity.

No particular episode: Beyond Speech by pene, written to [livejournal.com profile] cofax7's challenge to invoke another planet in 250 words. Does a marvelous job of creating one of those moments between John and Aeryn where so little is said and so much is felt.

Post The Way We Weren't (2.05): Cofax's The Naming of Names. Will make you broken for Pilot. It's wonderful. Gen.

[livejournal.com profile] thassalia's remix piece Tit for Tat, which is Chi centric and Season 1, post A Human Reaction, maybe? Anyway, Chi new to Moya, Aeryn dubious and suspicious, John still homesick and yet all about Aeryn, Zhaan wise as ever... the group is all on their game, in the wacky messed up world of Farscape interpersonal relations, and it's incredible to see Chiana making her way, learning from them in her way and their way and deciding to stay. Great feeling of the story that the series didn't have time to tell, but if they had? It would have sounded a lot like that. Especially D'Argo's chaos line. Gen, PG for Aeryn being characteristically violent.

Big huge massive spoilers for Out Of Their Minds (2.09? I think):Scientist, Astronaut, and Nymphomaniac: the 9 Lives of John Crichton by feldman = [livejournal.com profile] rubberneck. I have not seen it's like for variety, heat, attraction, exploration, first-times in many many senses or sheer numbers. I have not seen anything like this before. It's that good. NC-17, really. Really really. Het, at at least one point.

Out Of Their Minds (2.09):Out of Their Clothes by [livejournal.com profile] crankygrrl turns from whimsy to lust to love to confusion in the blink of an eye. Amazing. Het.

Annigmatic's 24 Hour Pass, is a John character study. Spoilers through A Clockwork Nebari.

[livejournal.com profile] kixxa's Memento Mori is and incredible AU of Look At The Princess. Loss and clutching and forgiveness and family and change.

M/[livejournal.com profile] samdonne's Walk Out Of The Air, post Liars, Guns and Money arc.

Season 3:

KodiakkeMax wrote an AU future story spinning off Different Destinations. How Sleep the Dead. Awesome story about heroes and history and forgetting and remembering.

Cofax ([livejournal.com profile] cofax7's novel: goes AU after 'Scratch 'n Sniff'. Written on a Thumbnail. One more meeting. Incredible.

Future/beyond the mini:

Flying Low at Night by [livejournal.com profile] cofax7 is the final form of the Farscape/SGA crossover WIP she had going there, which is John Sheppard's POV as a transplant from Atlantis into the Farscape 'verse something like 6 years after the end of the series. Aeryn is tough and alien and beautiful and decisive and wonderful and electric. John is guarded and on the brink of finding something. Adult, Sheppard/Sun.

No Joy (the extended operatic remix) by Shunda (=[livejournal.com profile] sugargroupie) of The Devil To Pay by Lynda (=[livejournal.com profile] pdxscaper) is set after the Peacekeeper Wars Mini, and an interesting remix. The original story spins the last few moments of the mini differently, setting up a more dangerous un-resolution, and the remix plays out the physical and emotional repercussions (as far as Aeryn is able to deal with them) of the setup through the fade to black to the coda that Scorpius sees from afar, only in Aeryn's POV. Neat. Crafty, man. I do love Aeryn's enduring confusion, and I love the feeling that this could be kicking off another season of Farscape with arcs and twists and fallout that none of us would see coming.

I wanted to thank you for your wonderful FB on that story! I got it in the middle of RL craziness and it got lost in the inbox shuffle, but yes. Thank you. It's great to see an older story get a response.

And these are definitely some of my favorites set early-on. *g* (There's a link here, to Foolish Girl.) (http://skywithoutstars.net/candles/fanfic/foolishgirl.html)

lol, you aren't the first. How did I manage to forget the link? Lordy. RL has been crazy for me too, your story is a little bit of escapism.

Here are two more reccs:

Jintian wrote one of the best Nerve/Hidden memory fillers called Search For Search For Signs In The Dark (http://www.shriftweb.org/leviathan/archive/3/searchfor.html) that gets into John's head while he is sitting in the cell between sessions in the chair. It gives me chills.

Debby A wrote a wonderfully clinical story that is filler for just after Hidden Memory called Wayfarers In the Night (http://fffa.soliii.net/cgi-bin/story.pl?ArtID=10481&AuID=1109&tf=LBA) that describes John's Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and how Aeryn comes to help. It is full of heart and compassion.

And Fiction in the Space Between is all the more cooler when you find out that Scapekid was only about 17 when she wrote it.

Ah, hurry up and finish season 2 so we can rec you some more good stuff...

For the sheer pr0n factor:

Robyn Bender's (http://www.geekturnedvamp.net/robynbender/) Talyn Suite.

It was the first fanfic I ever read (that wasn't SG-1 or La Femme Nikita)

Ah ah ah! I've heard that Talyn Suite requires knowledge of episodes I have not seen yet. I know this because my very favorite beta-pal ever is also Robyn's beta, notably for Talyn Suite. Thank you for the link, though. I have been looking forward to reading that fic since I started watching Farscape, and it's totally fun to have the rec from you. *g*

Not yet!! You can't read these yet!! Promise me!! They'll spoil you terribly. But if you get about two more eps in, if you in fact just watch Out of Their Minds, I can reccommend two fabulous pieces of porn!!

I promise! I prooooooomise! I am totally watching Farscape just. for. this. p0rn. (and plus I totally love Aeryn. And John. And Zhaan with her tripping light show. And Pilot. And... all of them. Fine. I'm hooked. Sue me.)

Bwahahaha! I have two episodes coming TOMORROW. And I shall now prioritize and possibly decide to watch them rather than read Sandman, or His Majesty's Dragon.

Hee:)

Seconding the rec for Jintian's story and "Wayfarers at Night", hassling you to read both of Max's S1 (Down Along the Barrel of a Gun, and That Which Does Not Kill Us) stories because I love them so. Also, Searose's "Human Reactions" which you can find at Leviathan. Oh!! And Rainer's Domino is Season 1 and really beautifully done.

If you do need a porn fix, however, I'm self-reccing (with much embarrasment). Not reccing, putting forth:

Lavandaria: http://thassalia.livejournal.com/131926.html
and it's sequel:
Checkmate: http://thassalia.livejournal.com/133854.html

They're early Season 2. I'm just having trouble thinking of good porn that's earlier than this. After you hit the half way point, I can load you up with fabulous authors!!:)

Oh, I never saw this! thanks so much for the rec. I do love that little story.

Actually, I would encourage you to read Mely's Outcast, which I suspect is on Leviathan, as another early-season story. It's a brilliant snapshot of Aeryn and her past, at the end of the pilot.

I need to get off my bum and head to one of your (plural your) LJs with a link to leviathan and look these people up. Also someone named Max has been repeatedly recc'd....

You're so welcome, that is a gorgeous little fic.

Oh, man, Max. Max will make you plotz. There are a number of great ficwriters in Farscape, including Thea and Feldman and Robyn and Kerne and Red and Fialka. But Max and Maayan--man.

I think I could say that In the Company of Ghosts is the best fan novel I've ever read. It's just amazing. (But you can't read it until you've seen the end of season 3...)
