Two great tastes
Mar. 7th, 2007 09:51 amFarscape: 3.10 Relativity.
So, the following things are extra marvelous about this tag: first, Stark is really funny as a voyeur… or auditeur, but that doesn't sound right. Second, while Aeryn and John have fantastic chemistry, and can pull off exposition as humorous banter, I love that no one has forgotten that there are others on the ship. There are so many times, in stories, in shows, when two characters get together and it's like everyone else disappears. Here, it's a good time for a character moment for Rygel and Stark.
HOW AWESOME IS THAT???
Also: awwwww, they're so happy (and doomed, probably, but right now! Happy! Look! Happy John! Happy Aeryn! AAAAAAWWWWWWWWW……)
Xalax is brutal, eh? She bears a stunning resemblance to Aeryn, always fun.
Ooooh, external peril, internal peril. Can't I have just a little bit of peril?
Xalax has a very interesting blinkblink response to "I'm Aeryn." I enjoy that she has to then say "I'm Aeryn SUN."
I think the props guys are going a little wacky throwing vines on Stark.
Also, creepy Catwoman claws on Xalex.
Scorpy! Baybeeeeeee!
Oh my God, those weren't Catwoman claws, she had weapons HID IN HER PERSON. Jesus. Oh, drugs too.
Hey, vines coming in useful, eh?
Anyone else find it interesting how every society of humans around the universe always develops the self-mutilation habit of piercing their ears?
John totally Predatored hisself.
I kinda like Crais more when the accent comes out. He seems as fierce as he's ever been being all sneaky and pragmatic.
Though, lovely camera people, you can hold that close up on Claudia Black for ever and I won't complain.
Oh. That was an amazing moment between A and X. Wonder if Crais is really going to kill her.
That is a really beautiful child playing little!Aeryn.
Oh, Aeryn, babe. You're going to make me cry too.
Okay, this is good to have Stark ragging on Rygel. And then the gratuitous body humor. Somehow, it's so much less upsetting than it might otherwise be.
But, then they end with one of those long, minimal dialog scenes between John and Aeryn and that might be what I love best about Farscape, the lack of need for dialog during moments like this.
And now for something completely different:
Post a list of your top five favorite stories you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most.
I'm really enjoying reading other people's writerly pride, so I tagged myself. Please feel free to do the same. I just updated my list o'fic if you're interested. It's here. All of these stories are SG-1.
1) Footsoldiers on Uneven Ground I think it's one of my most unique stories, and I think in a fandom this developed that's really saying something. I'm also pleased with how interesting and engaging Teal'c's mother became, just based on what we know of the effects of her life and a little liberal interpretation. Also? I'm not sure Talion really jossed this, except as I saw it playing out later, but I wasn't married to that future/past, I just borrowed it from
troyswann.
2) One Half of the Equation I love this one for the strength of voice and the darkness in tone. Plus I loved at the time how the "action" of the story aided the character arc without wilting or overpowering (I think.) I love Penumbra because it's effectively dark as well, though with both stories I had to take a bit of a writing break afterwards to regain strength and non-messed-up perspective on the characters.
3) The Eye is not Satisfied with Seeing This is gratuitous (like the rest aren't, sheesh) but I was very pleased to get a full-fledged Cameron/Teal'c fic out there when we were just getting to know Cameron. I have pride at being one of the first on that bandwagon. Riding shotgun, if you will. I also enjoyed that those two characters could go to a NC-17 place and maintain their respective voices and motivations and still have chemistry even on the page.
4) One Day I'll Fly Away and Vanish I tend to write Jack and Daniel as pretty sweet, in an old married love sort of way. It's hard to do that and still bring a unique angle to a pairing that has such a portfolio of stories out there, but I am proud of this story; proud of the timing, of writing it when most of the Jack/Daniel writers were moving on, and for introducing myself to my very favorite beta of all time by putting it out there.
5) It was hard to pick the last, but I'm going to go with an older story:Into the Breach. I wrote Teal'c's voice when there wasn't much Teal'c voice being written. And I think I got it, for all there is not a lick of dialog in it, and maintained momentum and interest even with the formal tone.

I thought of your "Footsoldiers" when I watched "Talion". I think the canon backstory referenced could dovetail with this fic nicely. :-D

Date: 2007-03-07 07:34 pm (UTC)And I love One Day I'll Fly Away and Vanish, too -- one of the first and best s9 J/D fics I read. Ditto The Eye is not Satisfied with Seeing and T/C.
