My dear flist,

On the eve of my second great adventure,

I have been distracted. I have been distracted and I've missed appointments, not been where I said I would be. I've been tactless, I've been sleepless. I've been disappointed and redirected and excited. I've been so wired I couldn't sleep and I've worn myself out helping friends move, roofing the guest house, lifting and hauling and making and yet I get up with the sun.

Lucky for me, the days are still short and sunrise is late.

I've been short-tempered; I don't know what's up with that. I've gotten the most important things on my 'to-do before leaving the continent' list checked off. Though I wish I could've sorted out the job thing, I suspect that was always wishful thinking.

Anyway, I'm off now, flist, to the land of sarongs and noodles. I think I'm ready, I know I'm Ready. I hope I will be a better person when I get back. Traveling brings out the best in me, I think, especially this kind of traveling. But I do think that should this time off be extended any more, I would have to travel in a different way next. I'd have to go volunteer, or ferry medical supplies, or build houses... I'm worried that I'll take all of this for granted, see? Don't want to do that. Am marvelously blessed.

Back February 19th, which is two days after the Chinese New Year, so expect some reports on that one. And colorful pictures, one can only assume.

I left a fic for you to read, will comb the newsletter when I get back. Until then, you can be sure I'll miss you and think of you whilst perusing the silks and the opium scales and the jewelry and sea kayaking and meandering the temples and giving rubber bouncing balls to little kids.
