Farscape 3.07 Thanks for Sharing

Two Johns. Yum. You'd think that would be yum, wouldn't you? But nooooooo, they have to be all perplexed about it. I do like Aeryn's response to John's petulance, though. "Because you're closer!" indeed.

Interesting use of 'they' describing Peacekeepers by Crais.

So Aeryn's Mommy had her without permission and she was a love child? Marvelous, 'cept that in a Completely Coincidental turn of events, she's now hunting Talyn. Also Completely Coincidentally named for Aeryn's Dad.

Hee! Two Johns are better than one YAY.

"I don't like it either" before anyone else says anything is gold.

EEeeeeeeeeeew, Scaran hand just smashed weird opaque red jello through a screen and weird blue opaque Jello on a table and it's ICKY. Oh, and explosive when the two meet.

Interesting to hear the Johns describe why it would be easier if there were only one (there can be only ooooooonnnnnneeeeeee!!!!! *big Highlander sword brandishing*)

And everyone starbursts away and escapes, only the John's have been separated. Sad, that. And the sister is screetching and turning into a Scaran. Were there two then? Or did the one Scaran hop bodies? That would make more sense since the sister had just done a complete political about face.

"He took Winona!"

"Well at least he left you this *lovely* jacket!"

"I was *wearing* that!"

"Aw, come on, crack a smile. At least he's out of your nose."

"Hair."

"Right. He's out of your nosehair."

"Awwww, my notebook! He took my notebook and my pen and sunuvabitch he set this UP so he's on Talyn with AERYN!" Aw, but you still have D'Argo!

Hee! And Aeryn's loyalties are with Talyn, apparently. But for all the little spoilers I've heard getting to this place, I actually didn't realize that Stark (who's being very cute this ep with the crazy) and Rygel would be aboard. Huh.

3.08 Green-Eyed Monster

You know, I'm thinking there is a subtle connection between Crais' play for Aeryn and his taking John's gun away.

"That's no moon" Hee! John = Obi Wan

I'm watching this and irreverently thinking that Aeryn's eyebrows are a little more, um, more? Than Vala's. It's not just the white highlights in her hair, s'what I'm saying.

I guess everyone knows Aeryn's mother is in command of the pursuers.

It's interesting to me when Rygel gets scared and headstrong and does whatever the hell he wants to. Haven't really seen him be so Rygel in a while, actually.

Is Talyn talking to John? Telling him that Aeryn slept with Crais? Did that really happen or is Talyn just rejecting the step-dad?

And just in case you thought Farscape was not going to vomit on you this season, I give you, pissy!Rygel. Aw, show's getting back to it's roots in the bodily fluids.

Talyn is really very unpredictable, innit he?

…But I really must approve of the tight fitting body suits. Wow, and Aeryn is just kicking butt and zinging the one-liners around this ep. Wooooooot....

Only, Talyn is really very unpredictable.

Crais has got a seriously pimped out love nest. *snork* Wishful thinking there, buddy.

Aw, and they vomited on us for a reason. I love this show.

I'm not sure I buy the 'can I share something with you before he dies?' scene, but I get that Aeryn made an impact ripping out her link. Glad John didn't die because Talyn was pissy, really. I was worried.

Would you like to name some stars? OMG sexiest pick up line ever. Damn. *lip wibbles* Okay, so John is totally the girl in this relationship, but STILL (I have no good defense, obviously, this is all bluster.) Smooooooootching.... I've just totally fallen for the schmaltz, I would like you all to note. I'm sure the tight-fitting body suits earlier had nothing to do with it.

There's a commentary on this. I shall return to it.

[ETA: The commentary informs me that Ben wrote this piece, which is awesome as HELL because there are kick ass character moments and dialog. And it's mostly been given to the other actors, which is extra awesome. Also? On second viewing, I appreciated the body hugging space suits Even More. While that might seem like it isn't related to Ben Browder writing the show, I'm totally going to credit him anyway because it's his bod that's making me so happy. *pauses on rear view of John* *and then again on the profile shot*]

3.09 Losing Time

SCORPY! BABY! How ya doin'?

Are we back on Moya? And when did Scorpy get physically violent? Oh, hey, it's the real one. Mmmm. And with a worm hole, eh?

Oh, this is the John left behind. Glad he has D'Argo and Chiana, but…

Wow, levitating, bleeding John? This is taking me back a few seasons, here.

And, it seems I need a snack. Mmmmm, apples. Okay.

How come John doesn't have blood dripping off his nose now?

Oh John, honey, I believe you. I'm not sure everyone needs to sit down and watch John, as much as I seriously wouldn't mind.

Moya's bleeding too?

Props Hensen group, those are fun looking Albino aliens.

Judgement, wazzat?

"Actually, I've been feeling a little angry." Bwah!

Oh, that's not good for Scorpy's wormhole trials.

HEE! Orgasm alien. Good lord. This show, I tell you.

Sometimes Scorpy is just alarmingly sympathetic, and I couldn't even tell you what he's medically doing to himself there, but it's amazing that he's looking all vulnerable and stuff.

With all the falling and flying in Pilot's chamber it's a wonder people don't fall overboard more often.

EEEP. The DRD got toaaaaasted. Poor lil' guy.

And Scorpius is having nightmares about John? Huh.

Wow, and Aeryn is just kicking butt and zinging the one-liners around this ep. Wooooooot....

I know - it's so charming that when BB writes an ep, he writes this fantastic Aeryn ep, in which John gets to look like a bit of a drannit, really.

However, BB points out at every available opportunity that he was not responsible for the cheesy star twinkle SFX at the end.

He gleefully claims full responsibility for the schmaltz, though. "They told me I couldn't say that, and I was like, whatever, I'm GONNA SAY IT!"

Even BB has a limit to his schmaltz, and the twinkly star exceeded it. heee! Ben Browder, you are such a dork!

P.S.

BB also wrote an ep in s4 which is even more awesome, simultaneously on crack and incredibly dark and saturated with meta. It's actually one of my favourite eps ever.

He's scary-smart, that guy. And amazingly geeky.

Yeah, he mentioned that a couple of times in the commentary for this one. That's worth looking forward to. YUP.

I just get more and more impressed with these guys.

GEM was my first Farscape episode. I was completely lost, and yet charmed by the angst and the skin-tight black suits. *grin*

Wow, what a good one to start with. I saw Bad Timing in a marathon before the miniseries, then watched the mini. Talk about being spoiled for the end, eh?

It really, really is. The scene about the drannit was possibly one of my favorite bits of dialog ever, because it's such a great example of showing, not telling with this whole 'not stupid but clearly from Very Different Backgrounds, don't forget' conversation. Awesome, and not a smidge of exposition in sight ("As you know, Bob, I am not actually from Earth.")

Also Completely Coincidentally named for Aeryn's Dad

Well, Aeryn does explain some of this, back in, er, that one episode at the end of season 1. Or was it "Mind the Baby"? I should know this because of my Xhalax obsession, but I don't remember. Anyway. Before "Thanks for Sharing" we do hear, albeit briefly, that Aeryn named Talyn after her father on purpose, and that she does remember her mother coming to her once when she was a child, though she doesn't know if it really happened or if it was a dream. So it's not all coincidence out of the blue.

And as for coincidence that it's Aeryn's mom being sent after them, don't you figure the PK's did that on purpose, to try to get to Aeryn? *shrugs*

I am inordinately obsessed with this very wee little bit of character arc (Aeryn's parents), though, so I may be too forgiving to the writing here. ;)

No, I remember. I think there was something about the scene though, or that I was totally with Aeryn when she said 'Don't tell me, she's leading the retrieval," that made me roll my eyes. Not really a criticism, though.

It certainly is an interesting backstory for Aeryn, makes me very curious about her parents as people.

I think I just get so caught up in CB's stellar acting in that scene (when mum asks wee Aeryn if she understands and adult Aeryn nods--gah! love that!) that I go flying past the eye roll-inducing coincidence.

If you're interested in Aeryn's parents, Kerlin's "Threnody for Innocence" (http://www.shriftweb.org/leviathan/archive/4/threnodyfor.html) is an absolute must-read. But not until you've finished season 3. I also wrote Five Things that Never Happened to Xhalax Sun (http://pellucid.livejournal.com/161204.html) (also spoilers through the end of season 3), but "Threnody" is better. ;)

I've been reading your commentary all along, though it didn't mean a whole lot to me, as I haven't watched since the eps were first aired. But then I watched all of season 2 on alluc.org this past weekend (sick, I know) and am making my way through season 3 downloads now.

Aaand this is my long-winded way of saying, "Yay!" I can relate now and fully appreciate your viewings.

I just watched Green Eyed Monster last night and had the same reaction to Aeryn's little sharing scene with Talyn. But hey, it saved John, so I'll take it, I suppose.

This show totally knew how to handle the RST. Love it.

It's funny how you write with a notion of your audience in mind--in this case, long time Farscape FANS, you know? And my friends too who've been pimping me into the fandom for goodness knows how long and are just waiting for me to get to their favorite memorized bits. Now I have to wonder if reading these commentaries without being able to watch the show in your head at the same time made any sense at all! I can't imagine there are very many deep insights in those first reactions.

I have glee for this show now, and in particular glee for people almost as new to it or in the same place I am. Yay! Yay back!

They were good with the ST, though, weren't they? That it doesn't have to be black and white, acknowledged or not, yes or no? It can be a yes, but, only with your clone kaythanx. Or yes, but you just screwed me over again so I've changed my mind. Or yes, but not on those terms.... oh, they are just so good.
