fic wot fits my definition of funny
Jan. 11th, 2007 12:27 amI think writing the alien sort of voice is one of the more intimidating things out there for some reason. When someone manages to not only write Teal'c or Teyla or Ronon or Jonas, but write their humor as well? Color me impressed. You can also bet with fairly good odds that I'll rec it to you.
minervacat made me fog up a glass of wine I was drinking as I tried to stifle my laughter and managed to just breathe hotly through my nose in a snorting sort of way. And she did it with Teyla, of all people. 844,739 Ways to Eat a Hamburger is team SGA with John/Rodney in there as well, but to me it's really about Ronon and Teyla on a roadtrip on Earth, and John trying to keep them out of jail. It's wonderful and happy. R, team.
This one came from the impressive Daniel and Teal'c friendship recs filtering through
stargateficrec at the moment, and it's a really nice moment of need between them. Teal'c's wit and mind sharp as ever, even as his body hurts. It's an amazing look into an extraordinary friendship, and manages to define a lot of Teal'c's other relationships at the same time. Daniel's Diaries - The Shower Series is by Scribe (does she have an LJ?) Gen, friendship, PGish.
In other news,
Once apon a time,
splash_the_cat wrote me a wonderful little ficlet, and such things can't be overly recced (yes, folks, that's right! Dedicate a story to me and get yerself at least one guaranteeeed rec!) I never said I couldn't be bought. I think I may have missed my calling as a beck and call girl, actually. ANYWAY, the request was for some threesome action and telling stories, and she used that as a launch pad for a wonderful Jack fic and sweet little insights into comfort and home. The Signs that the Signmakers Made. R, S10, Sam/Jack/Daniel.
Also, no one has yet guessed which
3_ships story is mine, Farscapers collapse my LJ faster than any others (especially when I've posted about an episode that may or may not be the beginning of a major story arc) and I haven't posted to Area 52 in ages, so Penumbra just went up there in the archives.
If you're wondering about that little foray into randomness, it's because I'm going through my email trying to find links to fic I might have forgotten to point you towards.
princess_bunny (and have I mentioned that sometimes you guys choose handles that worry me? I'm shocked that you could so assign yourself a name without giving thought to my delicate sensibilities /stephen colbert channelling) has written a hilarious mensa!'verse AU focussing on John and Rodney called Jump to the Left. The details are that John and Rodney have known each other since they were young and John has always been gay and never joined the military, was just recruited by the SGC as a civilian scientist eventually. I started reading with John's Mom and then read everything.
raqs has a certain gift for floundering realism in her smutty fic that just makes it that much better. I don't know that this one has a title, but she at some point called it The Rough Stuff and warned for BDSM not taken seriously. NC-17 and grand. Jack/Daniel.
I don't *think* I've mentioned this before, but
melayneseahawk wrote a lovely little AU in which Jack is a desk-driving cop and has a favorite bar in which Dr. Jackson eats dinner most nights and Janet tends bar to stave off boredom while her partner's out of town doing scientist things. Melayne deliberately worked as many characters into this as she could and it's fun. Yeah. Lots of fun. Jealous of Your Cigarette, NC-17, Jack/Daniel, AU.
elliejane wrote Tread Softly: Five Ways SG-1 Break Cameron Mitchells Heart, and she really does break before she puts you back together. PG.
laytoncolt's Siege AU? Did I tell you about that one? John/Rodney, Gods that Slumber, PG, I think, but definitely intimate and creepy. [ETA: This fic now attributed to the correct author, with an unlocked link. *face/palm*]
SMUTTLY UNITY (from the archives): Way back when,
paian, in the
fic4martha comm, posted Lodgecombing. It's gorgeous. The S9 Jack and Daniel has it's own set of challenges, and this is a brilliant dance around those and an amazing look into a gesture frought with meaning. And gorgeous use of leather. PG and intimate and promise-crammed. Jack/Daniel.
Then there's also
mmmchelle's Enduring. Jack and Daniel, how I love thee together. "Jack's never really liked fall. It's too much like autumn." *blink blink* Yes.
And your random Smuttly Unity (or just Jack related) prompt for the day: Early season, when they are still learning their limits. How far they can go, how much they can touch, how far they can wander before things get dangerous. And maybe the moment when they realize that those strict limits are needed, and heart-breaking.

Date: 2007-01-11 05:38 pm (UTC)I'm trying to motivate people to write more Jack and Daniel by pointing out really spectacular pieces as inspiration. Do you think it's working?

Date: 2007-01-11 08:55 pm (UTC)And, looking back, the phrasing was perhaps sounding like a passive-aggressive command, which was not the intention (sorry!) What I was asking was whether you thought I was sounding obnoxious or if it was really likely to make somebody stop and go 'huh...'
Ooooh, maybe I'll tell them about Silk next post. YUM.

Date: 2007-01-12 01:28 am (UTC)And speaking of Jack and Daniel: I just got to beta a fantastic thing, and I'll shut up about it, because it's probably a secret or something, and you'll know soon enough anyway, so there.
Ha.

Off to grab more of these lovely recs for my ebook reading at work.
