Farscape, Season 3, baby.

Okay, so we’re watching us some Farscape, not least because
synecdochic is also watching FS for the first time and all a-squee about it.
But I'm in early Season 3 and on my DVD here there’s a little interview with Anthony Simcoe in the extras. I’ve just got to say that the man is a spaz. Holy crap. Makes you want to give him some weed or something so he’ll mellow out.
3.05 is Different Destination.
Jool is not winning me over with her charming personality just yet.
Love that Aeryn assigned John a lower rank, and that John is yelling ‘sorry! Sorry! Don’t die!’ at the men he’s attacking. Ah, the old grandfather paradox. Miraculously, it ususally turns out all right in the end.
I am loving Stark, though. His insanity makes so much sense. His fingernails are marvelously dirty, and his face hugging that little girl is aching.
OH MY GOD I love Scorpy’s fashion sense. Scorpy as council advisor is darkly awesome.
Love D’Argo scolding John and Aeryn not to make things worse, dragging the petulant Jool and Stark around and then being sweet with the little one. He is so wonderful and paternal.
Aeryn never would have been so upset about one man's death in past years. Her growing sort of faith in doing the right thing as what she was meant to do is a brilliant arc.
OH MY GOD. THEY FAILED. Except D’Argo.
*speechless with awe* You can't do that on television.
3.06 is Eat Me.
I’m sort of excited because I think I’ve seen hints of this one in meta, which bodes well.
… Did they just run into Reevers? I think I’ve seen this episode on Firefly, although FS probably came first, bless them.
So, why aren’t they talking about whether the leviathan they just found is still alive since there’s obviously some control of airlocks and docking bays and whatnot? Oh, the ship is diseased and everyone’s reaction to the smell is kind of awesome.
John is going a little Frat boy surfer dude on us here. Like that he zeroed right in on the Pilot, though; they really should be asking permission if no one nasty is about, is my thinking. Although maybe the pilot is sick too and the feral dudes also had whatever the ship has. In which case, we might understand the unusual behaviour.
Oh, break my heart by asking for death, why don’t you? Poor mutilated Pilot.
I am thinking that splitting up on a diseased ship is perhaps not the way to go in the future, hmm?
Um, Xena yell, Chiana? Yeesh, there are easier ways to loose a few brain cells, D.
I do think Aeryn’s relationship with Talyn may be one of my favorites of this show.
EEEEEEEEWWWWWWW, NO EATING THE SHIP!!! THAT IS SO WORSE THAN CANNIBALISM.
Okay, so D’Argo died (and I’ve seen PK Wars, so that registers as a big ‘huh’.)
And the ship is populated by Peacekeepers gone wrong and one incredibly brilliant psycho.
Only with duplicates. Huh.
*sniff* They need to stop hurting the pilots. It just breaks me.
Also, they are just a little too good at creating really believably criminally insane characters, those writers; it makes me worried for them.
When? When did John get duplicated? And it’s awesome that the John’s are having a completely silent draw. AWESOME.
OH MY GOD, SHOW. YOU’RE LEAVING IT THERE?
I’m assuming the rest of the issues will be addressed in future episodes. I’d bet money. Or fic, or something.

"...Different Destinations" seems to be a real love-it-or-hate-it episode. A lot of people get upset about the downbeat ending. Me, I love it to itty bitty pieces, and that reaction right there is most of the reason why.

Oh, yes. Oooooooooh, yes. Heh. :)

Date: 2007-01-10 05:58 pm (UTC)I myself am watching Farscape for the first time, but once Zhaan died I set aside my DVDs for a little while, until Synec started watching (omg marathon watching) and posting reactions. Hee! It really is entertaining. Motivates one to get the DVDs back out too.
Plus, I have this sneaking suspicion that I've just stumbled into the beginning of everyone's favorite story arc here.

Date: 2007-01-10 07:41 pm (UTC)GOD, YES. There's always this swarm of people eager to hear all the Farscape newbie watcher's reactions. I love my Stargate, but Farscape? Farscape is one of those shows that comes along so very rarely, and it just lives and breathes awesomeness.

And yes, they will so address it. Just you wait. Season 3 is the best season of all.
Often called The Season of Death, so...

Date: 2007-01-10 12:39 pm (UTC)Kaarvok was totally creepy. And he had fantastic makeup too. Hard to see all the details in the dark but I've seen some photos and closeups and, wow. You're right; he's like a Reaver who's been watching too much Masterpiece Theater.
Ficwise, I don't know how much else is out there, but I answered a peripheral character challenge to the tune of Different Destinations a while back. You reminded me of it with this post, so I tracked it down on Leviathan and archived it.

Date: 2007-01-10 02:47 pm (UTC)And this is exactly why this is the best show ever--for all the times they go blazing past that line of what you can do on television. I'm echoing everyone else here, but season 3 really is astounding. Have fun! Bring tissues!

Date: 2007-01-10 05:42 pm (UTC)Utterly. I love that so much, that they just--blew it. DD is the episode I think of when I call this show the anti-Star Trek. Good intentions don't mean shit in the UTs.
As for Eat Me, notice if you will that both D'Argo and Chiana died on that Leviathan. John(s) just got lucky. And yeah, this season is The Season of Death. Nobody comes out unscathed.
Most people love Season 2 best, and I admit that the run from Liars Guns and Money to DMD/SoD is fantastic; and yet I think I'll always prefer Season 3, in part because it's what hooked me, and in part because they went places I never believed they'd go. S3 will break you. I love it so.

Date: 2007-01-10 07:37 pm (UTC)Which feels so much more dangerous than killing off a double or two, you know? I mean, you go in with this feeling that if you're a good person and your intentions are noble then everything will be fine.
How interesting that John got lucky and whichever one of him escaped having his brain fed apon, because I get the feeling that nobody is okay with the idea of being doubled, and he's the walking embodiment of that really hard subject.

Date: 2007-01-10 06:19 pm (UTC)I guess it's that for all the insanity, the consequences feel organic (and often gross). There are no easy outs in this 'verse, and yet they all still fight and have sex and bitch at each other and screw up and work out their issues in inappropriate places and ways are there for each other at the end of the day.
I love that John so wants to take responsibility, but only when it really is his due. He makes bad calls, but his intentions are good (although good intentions will get you less than jack in the UTs). He's just so very, very far from being able to curb the ramifications of his actions and choices.
And dude, you'd think that TWO JOHNS would be a good thing!! You'd think!! But they are very, very pretty in the next ep. Actually, everyone in the next ep is pretty!

Date: 2007-01-10 07:42 pm (UTC)I did take quite a break after Zhaan died, though. Almost forgot it had happened until both Chiana and Rygel tried to pretend they were stealing her stuff until they broke and admitted they wanted her back.

(Can one be twisted in a good way? Heh.)

Date: 2007-01-16 10:50 pm (UTC)DD is an episode I hate so so much for the way the others treat John.
Eat Me is terribly gross, and John is largely crazy by the end, but it gives us two of him, so who can possibly object to that? Mmmmm, two Johns.
