I enjoy Thanksgiving. A food holiday without large expenditures, or high pressure, really, especially if everyone in the family cooks pretty darn well and they let me make two or three vegetable dishes. Marvelous. Also fairly heart-healthy, on account of my Daddy. Then we all played a gambly sort of dice game called Greed, which is very much fun, with the stayers. Nursed a cup of coffee through the Black Friday shopping extraveganza, which was surprisingly uncrowded downtown, what with the parade going on at the same time. You just have to be prepared to stay downtown until the parade is over and they let your car out of the parking structure, but we had no trouble with that. Plus, I occasionally cooed over a fabulous dark green winter jacket, or pair of shoes with the new ballet on-point tow (know what I'm talking about? Thank God the shoes are over the pizza toe points, those drive me batty.) I'd then find myself strictly instructed to forget I ever saw the fabulous item in question, whilst being handed it in a bright cheery shopping bag to carry. Shopping with my family, ladies and gents. Picked up small things for Mom in a similar manner, but this will be the year of the handmade gifts in the world of Minx. Bro is getting refinished chairs, Mom a new slipcover and some curtains. Dad is getting a heart-rate monitor, but I didn't make it myself.
All of which puts me in rather a weird headspace to be writing my Through the Gate Darkly fic, but it's coming along. Finally got it plotted and started, with a very nice creepy soundtrack playlist on my computer. Hope the beta is up for this one, though, as it's already shaping up a bit longer than the last few bitty ficlets, and she's battling crapitude. *pets beta* Won't have a problem with the 1000 word minimum, that's for sure. I think I've blasted right past that with the disequilibrium section alone.
Holiday ficlets are glee:
Thanksgiving:
splash_the_cat wrote S9 SG-1: Cam's First Thanksgiving with the Team, PG. Teal'c is awesome. They're all awesome.
Christmas: from
laytoncolt, in a sadly flocked entry, Keeping Up Appearances (my title) which is John and Rodney, staying voluntarily on Atlantis over the Earth holidays. Slash, but worksafe.
Thanksgiving: For ME from
alizarin_nyc! Yaaaay! Sam and Rodney, where Thankgiving fails on pure gluttony, but wins for lust. Also, Rodney is a classy, classy guy. Awesome. Class It Up, rated G.
More on the subject of me prompting all of you wonderful people to do stuff for me:
Regarding Teal'c in a Cathedral: Sal wrote Jack's take on it, Jane wrote Daniel. I remain speechless, but I'm wondering if this couldn't turn into a Five Ways Teal'c Saw a Cathedral. I'm still pondering that. I'll need Sal's and Jane's permissions, of course. And possibly Sam or Jonas or Cam or Vala accompanying Teal'c. *looks hopeful* I would like to say that neither of them wrote anything I would have expected. I love that.
Non-denominational, or for no particular reason:
A ficlet from
cofax7 as part of a WIP amnesty/ forgiveness request (SPN has temporarily eaten her brain, poor thing. BBBRRAAAAIIIINNNNNNSSSSSS) A MALP of Unusual Proportions and Attitude (my title), team, gen, S10 SG-1 response to SGA's The Return Part I--Cofax has been calling this the haitus fic, and as it's now be jossed, it's a crossover tag AU... or something. Again, Teal's is fantastic, as is Vala, and how they all interact as a team is particularly yummy.
Team-smut of the fantasy sort from
princessofg, and for the record, Jack is totally not innocent. When Anthropologists Daydream. Spot on Daniel. Not worksafe, poly.
Read:
perfica's Bottom Series: Rodney, rated NC-17, with a warning for foul language during sex, which is hit or miss for me, usually, but was interesting here. SGA, John/Rodney.
Experimental Methods by tigerlady. Unabashed porn, but the good stuff. Alien gismos, ladies and gentlemen! NC-17, PWP. John/Rodney, SGA.
Reread: About a Lamp, by flambeau (Torch), which is a really nice example of guys Not Talking (a kink of mine), but they get it at the end. John/Rodney, NC-17.
More new stuff:
thegrrrl2002 wrote the marvelous tongue in cheek That Time When John Wanted to Talk About His Feelings. More with the guys not talking, but I never said I wasn't easy. Not worksafe.
Which is sort of in line with
ladycat777's drunk stubborn Rodney asking questions about John's life. Granted, NC-17, nice tipsy momentum and voice.
Read
toomuchplor's Classified, AKA Wanted, and enjoyed the confusion before the resolution very much. Also the driving force behind the classified ad of the premise had an interesting resolution. John/Rodney, NC-17
murron and
eretria wrote a funny little Return II tag called War of the Roses, with John and Rodney bickering marvelously. PG-13, slash.
Ever since
zoetrope's incredible Missed the Saturday Dance AU in multimedia, I've been a little more open to reading AUs of the more drastic profession change type. This one is John as a shrink, talking only about other people's problems, and Rodney as a stubborn amnesiac. It's Starting Over, by
lavvyan, and not worksafe. John/Rodney, AU.
Finally, just a bit of gen: a moment of Elizabeth and Jack, being crafty and observant and cooler than they're written. Bang on character study--at least the characters that I would like to see. Pegasus B, but all you really need to know is that it's a crossover SG-1/SGA 'verse that places Jack in Atlantis as head of the military. Negotiations, gen, worksafe, from the very lovely
raqs.
