Have permission to proceed with setting a date. stop (yay!).
Committee can't be arsed to send schedules. stop.
Advisor's editing comments are stupid and inelegant. stop.
Am over proprietary anger and attempting to compromise. stop.

Requesting the addition of label 'evil thesis defense committee' to this icon (by [livejournal.com profile] surrealphantast, used as a base with permission) as therapy. thanks.

[ETA: I did it all by MYSELF! *displays new default icon* Also? Apparently LJ is hiding my posts from my flist. Must fix that.]

Jen also made Alex flailing *points at marvelous flailing lion*

I'm not in as much of a fannish place lately, but people have been kind enough to direct me to to some great stuff, and I'm still working through the stuff I have faith will be pretty marvelous...

Sam/Daniel-ness (some old, some new):

[livejournal.com profile] moonshayde's Compromises. PG, lovely established relationship, vacation banter and people who read current research and know how wrong it is and bonding over that, without having to understand each other's fields.

[livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle's Like Most Riddles (NC-17). I love this one for their emotional cluelessness, and how their understanding is so far behind their physical intimacy.

[livejournal.com profile] agentotter's wonderful Natural Light. (PG, friendship) reread, but bizarrely un-recc'd. I adore the siblings-goofing-off banter like nobody's business. Plus, during a time when I'm less inclined to read, O has actually hooked me with her opening paragraph (which I glanced at while flipping through the links I have open) and next thing you know, I've read the whole thing.

Learning to Fall, by Julie Fortune. *fangrrls RW for the tip* A gift with no caveats, friends with no barriers. Psychology of grief and inadequacy of coping, well rendered. Plus the idea of being two things: of Earth and Abydos, of science and military, well mirrored. NC-17.

Totally incomplete and not meant to imply a thorough read of the ficathon stories:

Jack/Daniel from [livejournal.com profile] greensilver's ficathon:

[livejournal.com profile] blue_adagio (new writer to me, hello!) wrote Collateral Damage for [livejournal.com profile] dustandroses, which is awesome betrayal. D/s, Absolute Power missing scenes. NC-17.

Light manipulation as foreplay--with an edge: [livejournal.com profile] janedavitt's Pushed Into It. S4, NC-17.

[livejournal.com profile] merryish (for [livejournal.com profile] destina, lucky girl) wrote a fantastic, long, plotty, classic SG-1: Downtime. There are a lot of things that could be said about this piece, but the bit that sticks out for me is the connection between Jack and Daniel despite this being G rated and possible to read as friendshippy (there's something wrong with my grammar, there,), and the fact that Jack is just WONDERFUL. Smart and in charge and charming and capable. Stands out like Amabor ([livejournal.com profile] greensilver), for Jack being marvelous. G, Jack and Daniel, or Jack/Daniel.

The psychologically complex, emotionally intimate and character driven I, In This Darkness, by [livejournal.com profile] destina for [livejournal.com profile] paian. Long piece that pulls no punches drawing the outlines of dangerous, capable, loving guys in an established relationship, helping each other through decisions that they might have made differently. It's not a pat resolution, which makes it all the more marvelous. It's also one of those lyrical titles that I expect from this ficathon. *glee*

I'm still reading, I'll get to the other fics, I promise... probably.

In a category of it's own (and to be read regardless of whether it's your thing or not)

[livejournal.com profile] sdraevn's Fell In Love With a Girl. (Anyone else heard the marvelous cover of this White Stripes song from soul singer Joss Stone? MMmmm) This fic is marvelous, for Teyla's wickedly funny inner voice of wisdom and for the friendships she has with her team, the 'Lantians, and the Oraat original culture (marvelous world-building). The OCs have fantastic personalities and motivations, differentiated from each other and yet clearly working well together. Loved Teyla's thought processes and the notion that aliens might have a sense of humor, omg. The attraction, questioning and resolution are well crafted, and the sexy bits are (sexy). Teyla/Kate. NC-17.

This just furthers my deep appreciation for the pairing of Atlantis's Kate with anybody who's really attractive, particularly Teyla; [livejournal.com profile] mmmchelle does this really well too.

I'm sorry I did something wonky to hide the posting briefly, but I think folk are seeing it, so hopefully a few readers will wander your way.

I love that Katherine Hepburn icon. Just marvelous.
