To Do list and meme

I met katie_m during her whirlwind tour of Portland and she made me realize that I'm getting tired, that I'm wearing sweats and jeans and t-shirts and none of my pretty clothes lately, and that I want to be traveling, like she is. Katie is wonderful, pretty, charming, elegant, a grown-up, and is inspiring me to sort my silly dissertation stuff out so I can get back to trying to be those things.

Also? I need to sleep. I've been racing and rafting and playing with 4 year olds and playing with my parents (different games, really similar levels of laughter) and driving and working and banging my head against a wall with my dissertation and I don't know when I got so tired.

I would also like to point out that every time I meet someone from fandom (all of twice, this has happened) it coincides with remarkable leaps forward towards the dissertation defense. I'm just saying. One more time and it'll be a trend.

Ahem.

The following things have been requested:

1. DVD commentary on Like No One is Watching, which I'm looking forward to.
2. Meta on Sexy Wounds, or, what 'merely a flesh wound' really means.
3. Edited copy of the Teal'c and Cameron, Courting, fic (okay that's just me, but my lovely beta has asked about it and poked me with a pointy stick at least once.)

However, I have worked hard today and managed to work out as well (only because I'm meant to be racing on Sunday with my team and they're all *hand flaps* counting on me to show up, 'n stuff) and my brain is shutting down.

So instead, I meme:

1. My ex is.....dating a really nice girl, a lot like me except she speaks Vietnamese. I'd try harder to dislike her but I'm using up all my energy trying to graduate.
2. I am listening to... The Colbert Report from the other room.

9. The meaning of my screen name is... A minx is a pert girl; adding a y sort of bastardizes it back to an adverb and thus Minxy means pert or saucy or impudent although it was really born of people just being affectionate. You can call me Kate if it's easier.
10. Love is... worth it.
11. Somewhere, someone is... wishing for the things I gripe about.
12. I will always... agree to play with my Dad.
13. Forever seems... glib. So many interesting things could happen between now and that theoretical time.
14. I never want to... manipulate people.
15. My mobile phone is... in need of a new battery.
16. When I wake up in the morning... I need coffee and silence.
17. I get annoyed when... people do not communicate what they need and then get angry when they don't get it.
18. Parties are... entertaining, sometimes.
19. My fish is... pan seared Ahi tuna, with avocado, soy sauce, ginger and lime. Although I also have this great recipe for halibut with a macadamia nut crust. And some really good salmon recipes too.
20. Kisses are the worst when... unwelcome.
21. Today I... was productive. It's been a while.
22. Tonight I will... sleep hard.
23. Tomorrow I will... work hard again at work worth doing that someone else cares about and other people might see someday.
24. I really want... to write this original story that's been percolating in my head.

Almost... I live 45 minutes drive outside of the city at the moment, but being a former downtown resident, I tend to be there pretty often for friends and playtime.

Am a traveling fool, it could very well happen. I know, for example, that I have a long weekend in Boston at the end of September.

Well, the diss has taken a setback this morning in the freezing up of my word processing program and the resumption of no emails from the boss man.

Plan to send the next bit to friends in the lab as well so they can mention to him that he should pay attention to me.

My mom wakes up perky and early. She sometimes likes to knock lightly on my door in the 20 minutes it takes me to get vertical and request that sometime later in the day I do her a favor and maybe yadda yadda yadda... *looks sleepily around* I'm trying to get her to start writing this stuff down on postit notes and leaving them next to the coffee maker.

It backfires when I have no memory of what I agreed to, though, hence the need for a post-it.

The fact that I've set a defense date in my mind, and scarily now have made plans contingent on actually getting it done. is working wonders for my motivation. Folks have requested 1-2-3 from you, but they would completely understand if you wanted to finish up the dissertation before attempting them.

I've tried the mental deadlines, but they have been thwarted by the negligent advisor so many times that my brain won't play those games any longer. I'm... supposed to be setting my actual, real, defense date as soon as my committee chair gets back from Japan. *goes to send email to committee chair*

Note that I left the Carter ficathon off the list? That's me attempting to resist it. (I know folks would understand. People here are lovely. Which begs the question of whether someone is running interference on all the crazy fans so I never see them? Huh.)

Any time you need a break, babe, I've got a nice fold out bed here in my computer room and I'll be at work so you'll have the run of the house during the day. We have a great beach to take long walks on and you can contemplate tossing annoying people in that big ole volcano across the water over there. :o)

I have a distinct memory of my Mom batting us away from her pillow when we were young and really, really excited about Saturday morning cartoons; clearly she was not always a morning person.

Actually, I am perfectly capable of dressing like a professional type person, but today it's only my computer that's noticed and it's barely said anything.

Though, it did crash a couple of times. Dunno if that's related.
