So I was listening to the incredibly emo Snow Patrol, which sometimes, is just marvelous, and a song called Run came on. Now, before? I always thought that was a Jack/Daniel song (light up, light up; as if you had a choice = Daniel) or maybe an Abyss song or something.

But then I watched a coupla DVDs of vids sent to me by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] taselby from vividcon last year and I realized that stories can be told in vids, that it's not a question of matching up literal moments from the lyrics to scenes... What? I'm not a vidder, it was never my thing (though I have devoured everything of Barkley's I have), so I missed the subtle detail of that, and I didn't understand how the song and clips could work together to tell a different story arc than either did alone.

So now I'm thinking Emo song + clips from Abyss, Need, the movie, Hathor, possibly Heroes and Threads, possibly Meridian and the one where the Abydonian's died, and the one with the ziggurat, all combining to become... a love song for the sarcophagus *jumps and claps in glee* Because see? It could be about how it was such a miracle at first, to save Shau'ri and Daniel and oooooh, should be a huge friendship theme for all of SG-1 here, and Sam and Janet saved Jack and it was GREAT, but then ooooooh, it all goes bad and addiction and dirt and sadness and falling apart and pointing guns at your friends in a closet and so they asplode stuff! YES! Great big asplosions in the key change melodramatic instrumental! Only, woe! Now they don't have a sarc and sad sad because people are getting hurt! like *wibble* Janet! or.... *deep breaths* Jacob or or or *waves away tissues* DANIEL or Sha're and they don't have a sarc anymore because they aren't old enough to play with it safely which means they have to deal without it and it's SAD because people go away.

*pulls self together* So, someone want to make me a Sarcophagus Love Song? Doesn't have to be just like that, could be a written story, could be a less emo song...

Anyway, enough with the ideas I haven't the skills to back up.

I just read a long, plotty, intimate, almost-slash SGA fic called Salt of the Earth from [livejournal.com profile] dashamte = Dasha. It's lovely, the sort of wonderful, deep, unique, irreplacable intimacy between people that lets them talk about hard things and be there on bad days and take the blame and ask too much of each other and learn and accept failings and change each other's opinions and be patient and love. This is a great love story. It is also an unflinchingly painful tale of recovery and acceptance. PG-13 for mature themes, John & Rodney close friendship with Ronon, Teyla, Elizabeth, Carson and Radek friendships in there as well. (Dasha's The Four series, which is SG-1 OT4, is also marvelous. RW just rec'd it on stargateficrec, which is how I realized Dasha has an LJ now.)

[livejournal.com profile] janedavitt wrote awkward sex, which is one of my favorite things and comes in a few varieties, to my mind, but in this case she wrote awkward first-time sex, where Jack and Daniel don't know how to communicate about it or make it better or adapt, and suffer from having denied themselves each other so long that their expectations are higher than the mountain. Exquisite disaster ensues. But my kink about awkward sex being real and messy and truthful sort of hinges on my bulletproof kink that overcoming awkward sex to have better sex is even hotter. NC-17, obviously, Jack/Daniel, S4ish, but not particularly. The Real Deal.

Someone mentioned MVP from [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza as one of their favorite John characterizations in a sort of meme thing that was going around and all I could think was 'there's Speranza fic I haven't read???' ??? It was a surreal moment. Anyway, MVP is marvelous. John/Rodney, stemming from Rodney's obsession with hacking the system to read his own personel file, then reading other people's too, and isn't that just a very Rodney set up? The characterization of both of them is of strong, different, flawed, interesting people. NC-17, S2, if I remember correctly.

Speranza's also got a virgin challenge fic that I found marvelously tactile and I loved the complete lack of a big deal virginity was for the team, and who was really venturing into new experiences and who wasn't. Pure Bodies and Clean Hearts. Pretty sure it's NC-17 at the end, there.

Thought I'd mention this again as the author just responded to f/b in a very sweet, pleased way:[livejournal.com profile] lasultrix's Untitled Post-Lost City Fic is some of the best Sam angst I've read, where she identifies some of her issues but can't sort them out and goes in circles trying to find someone who can help. The relationship with Pete is Everything She's Supposed to Want and Jack is the elephant in the room that keeps Sam and Daniel from really leaning on each other, Teal'c is wonderfully present, Janet is heartbreakingly absent. Loved this. PG.

I had a few more, but I'm running late, so maybe later... and I have to post about Farscape too... and there've been great crossovers rec'd lately that I mean to read and ... wow. Having a four-year-old around is really cutting into my free time usually spent on the internet. Huh.

Also, I think my [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon fic was posted today, though I haven't had a chance to comment yet, but I did notice that of the four ficathons I've participated in? Only once have I pulled in a prompted fic on time (woot [livejournal.com profile] seanchaidh! *loves*) I'M 1 FOR 4. My ficathon record sucks, yo. I give rotten prompts that take forever to write, apparently. *wrinkles into a little ball of smallness*

I'm replying here for two reasons. One is totally selfish - if I reply, then an email gets sent to me and I have this bookmarked for later when I have time to read it. And two is because usually I don't see so many interesting recs for stories I haven't read yet, so I have to give you my thanks.

Thanks!

I may go back and edit to be a little clearer, but it's one of those marvelous fics that in the summary doesn't always appeal, but the fic itself is wonderful and satisfyingly real feeling.

Totally deserving of a good rec or two.

It's better than my 0 for 1. I give worse prompts than you! But the real fun was writing for the ficathons anyway. Getting a fic will be just a bonus. Though I do worry I was too fussy and drove my fic person batty.

I was half involved in a conversation about back up writing for the tealc ficathon, actually, perhaps we ought to look into that again. It's a bummer when fics are complete no-shows.

But I agree that the fun was in the writing, the rest is just gravy.

Ya know. If I weren't so backlogged on all of my own vid ideas I might actually have taken you up on that idea. Sounds intriguing. I hope someone can tackle it with appropriate grace. ;-)

Nobody compares to you, babycakes. Thank you for the offer. I sometimes get this way about stories too, where I have a thin notion that it could be great fun, but I want it to just magically appear on my harddrive without me actually having to do anything (only in this case I actually don't know where or how to begin to do it, so it's more of an excuse.)

I would love to see it, but it's entertaining enough just to be a silly fangirl for a moment and write it in a flippant way.

I was running off to meet friends, though, and while driving I was thinking 'Oooh! Could use the bit where Teal'c recovers from the tummy wound in the 'we have to recover the hard way now' part, and shots of the Goa'uld using the sarc in the 'it all goes to Hell' part--like Yu, and RA! Ooooh!' So I might be really annoying to collaborate with. Might have to just give away the idea. Free! Good home! Small print!
