Some extraordinary fics have been posted of late. Without further ado, here they are:

SG-1:

Jack/Daniel from [livejournal.com profile] synecdochic (yes, the woman who wrote us Freedom's Just Another Word for Nothing Left to Lose, highly recommended for anyone even passingly interested in Rodney.) Fantastic language porn in an amazing exploration of Daniel's issues: Eurydice, After S4-ish, post Forever in a Day. NC-17, kink, angst.

[livejournal.com profile] cofax7 looks at Teal'c: Five decisions that might have gone differently in one of those alternate realities that are of little consequence to our T. Five Battles Teal'c of Chulak Never Fought. 'Twill break you and heal you for Teal'c. Mostly gen, just a smidge of the potential for slash in the last. PG. Power wielded, effects and consequences.

Firefly:

from [livejournal.com profile] brigidestone, a look at River and Mal and harnessing the darkness, trusting the light: White Snake, het, River/Mal, post-movie.

Not brand new, but for your consideration: Rebecca's Firefly ([livejournal.com profile] blueraccoon). Mal/Simon, with a lot of hurt and a lot of past, where their individual ways of coping are destructive to themselves and coming together to cope may destroy the crew: Glue. Mal/Simon, BDSM. During the series, but no particular time.

Eurydice, After S4-ish, post Forever in a Day. NC-17

[livejournal.com profile] robynbender once suggested that there ought to be an NC-17-squared rating, for the fics which deserve warnings that they're really, really NC-17.

I'm thinking that "Eurydice, After" would probably fall into that category *g*.

Hee! That's fantastic. On Area52, they tell you to rate your fic NC-17 if there's even a mention of naughty bits, and I always think, but that could just be a character adjusting themselves when they sit down, or get dressed or something; there's no rating for 'mention of naughty bits and how they use them to smoking hot effect?'

Robyn to the rescue. NC-17-squared. *glee*

It sent me mildly insane trying to rate "Easy There. Steady Now", because, OK, a naughty bit is briefly mentioned in thoughts, but surely a fic of such positively Victorian chastity cannot be NC-17. Eventually I settled for R and hope no-one complains.

I think that's totally appropriate for ETSN, after all, the naughty bit was a sentence something like 'oh, hey, my shoulder...' whereas the bits about the shoulders were incindiary. Very Victorian, actually (omg ankle! *thud*)

Oddly, though, at Area 52 it's the NC-17's that are the popular ones. I generally get twice as many hits if the fic is explicit, no matter whether or not it's actually better.

Yup, but it'd be a terrible disappointment to readers. "NC-17? And they don't even kiss on the mouth?!?"

Oddly, though

Oddly? This is fandom *g*.
