And I am having one of the best days I've had in recent memory. My reasons for this general glee can be broken down into two categories:
1. RL stuff, aka, triumphing in the entrails of the most user UNfriendly program ever which I, unfortunately, cannot do without. In solving the illogical programming issues, I tapped several friends who combined, made me feel a lot better about my criminally rude and neglectful advisor. Namely, there may be a good reason for his distraction, and it may be medical in nature. Now, I can't talk to him to get any details due to his determinedly ignoring me, but having an explanation better than a hypothetical 'maybe I just suck?' is good. Plus, friends = good.
Also, my Dad and I set up his Christmas horseshoe pins and and he is now declaring a new tradition of nightly horseshoe games because he is just. that. excited. We played last night and I sucked mightily. It is nice to have something you suck at where it's totally allowed and no one is harmed by your ineptitude. I like horseshoes. My puppy needs to learn to run away when they come flying at her, though.
Also,
raqs' and
troyswann's posts today have both helped me keep perspective on that whole *hand flaps* grad school thing. Like, perhaps it's okay that I'm not moving at any reasonable rate towards graduation as long as I'm still moving at all, and in the right direction.
2. SG-1 fanfic.
I'll just pause for a moment so you can glance back and see that there really isn't a lot of this about at the moment (although
jenlev has recently been sublimely witty and
thassalia wrote some amazing S9 sexy), so there is much cause for gleefulness.
To wit:
dustandroses posted my
tealc_ficathon story and I love it so much. I love that she plays with the idea that Cam is really close to his family and that the others haven't had that luxury. I love that she writes Teal'c and Cam D/s and with kink, because these two strong, able, hierarchical men ought to have a few Not Vanilla stories written about them, don't you think? And this is a marvelous first time with trust and freaking out and dropping and Teal'c laughing. Laughing. It is possibly the sexiest part of a very sexy fic. Jaffa School, NC-17, D/s, bondage, Teal'c laughing (what? It should be a category.)
How come it is so awesome when people write something for you, huh? You'd think the stories would be enough by themselves, but to have the dedication is so cool. Plus, it seriously helped make my day.
And in honor of
catspaw_sgjd's birthday, a nice fic from Joy: A Little Quiet Time, established relationship, offworld, edgy, sexy, marvelous Daniel and Jack voices. NC-17, Jack/Daniel, mid S4.
And also,
teand wrote her a niiiiice Jack/Daniel, trapped in a small room together, oh noes! What will they dooooo? *g* Yup, it's a feel good fic. Working Through the Technicalities. R/NC-17, short, pre-season 8, but could be any time before that.
Happy Birthday, Cats. Hope it's marvelous.
ETA: random not SG-1 rec: This is, in fact, Supernatural/Firefly, and it works really nicely, with subtle little changes building to impressive story. Plus, Sam/Simon, and Dean and River are marvelous, as is River's bossing about of Simon. Ticket to Anywhere by
monkeycrackmary, R rated, ish.
