fanfic recs for the weekend
Apr. 1st, 2006 04:36 pmA'ight. I've renewed committment to labelling the ratings on fic. Poke me if I miss one and you want clarification of whether it's worksafe, or age appropriate or whatever.
First off, it's April Fool's Day, and the rather incredibly funny Anais (
notmonkey) has written a Jack/Daniel fic in honor of this most austere day. April Fool. PG-13 for snark as only Anais can serve it up.
There are also two notably grand fics over at
tealc_fic in response to the challenge prompt "escalade", the first by
jalabert is Frustration and may be the first genuinely angry Teal'c fic I've read and it's well done. Also we have
ldyanne's Scaling the Wall, which works up to the betrayal in Children of the Gods with impressive momentum. Both gen. PG for content? Dunno.
And can we send a shout out to
moonshayde @
tealc_fic for prompting, inspiring, organizing and assigning the creation of more T centered fic than I have ever seen before? And it's good. This is so cool.
In the non-Teal'c categories, also known as omfgTHREESOME! J/D/S, I give you
uberaeryn. These aren't new, but they're hot. And quite NC-17. Sam in the Middle and Six Hours, Nine Minutes and Thirty-two Seconds. Both PWP, fun and bordering on kinky. And then there was the Daniel/Sam/Female + voyeuristic Jack marvelousness that is Harder. No bordering, this is definitely marvelously voyeuristically kinky. Heh.
SGA author I Did Not Know:
torakowalski, Scenes From An Accidental Courtship. I'd read that just for the rhythm of the title alone. John/Rodney; first time; NC-17. Also read Wounded, a tag for The Eye. Also NC-17.
(and some I did)
eretria and
auburnothenna have collaborated on the last of a triptych of John/Rodney fics that they wrote the first two of (for? of?) individualy and respectively: Vapor, Dragon Smoke and Vapor Lock (for murron). I'd give these an R rating for subject, but not terribly explicit content. The way they tell the story is cool, though, everything through a haze, whether self-imposed (inflicted?) or accidental, which leads to realization being stumbled onto with the kind of honesty that only confusion can bring. Interesting, and I think it really worked, particularly impressive since this wasn't originally supposed to be a series, and every part really has a different story, different point.
from
synecdochic, a long gold sliding into dawn. John/Rodney, first time in it's own way, maybe early courtship, where you're still really surprised every time the other person shows up, NC-17.
And an author from SG-1 dun switched sides: James Walkswithwind (
zortified) wrote the inevitable All's Fair in War which is lighthearted, fun, and sexy (all about Beckett man, this is one fic where the traditional pairings won't work at all). McKay/Beckett, R-ish, pretty tame, though, it's more about the foreplay. There are also a number of very sexy McKay/Beckett/Sheppard threesomes, and I stayed up far too late reading some last night. Heh. Good dreams, though.

Date: 2006-04-02 09:37 am (UTC)Doesn't change the fact that I originally know him from his Jack/Daniel work, though. *g* I may be just a teensy bit biased towards my favorite fandom. Juuuuust a leeeeettle bit...

Date: 2006-04-02 11:10 am (UTC)Yeah, know what you mean. Personally, I'm not always a Carson fan, so I don't always read her SGA fic, since Carson is often in them. (Although that seems to be changing. I'm getting to like him more and more all the time.)
BTW - She goes by
Do you like transformation type fic? If you've been on her website, you probably noticed her Houston Knights fic (which centers around a centaur.) So when she joined SGA, she started writing Centaur fic for it as well. The SGA Centaur Series (http://gila.fakingsanity.net/stargate.html#centaur)
I usually hate that kind of thing, but I love the Centaur myth in her stories. She goes to great detail, using myth as well as equine behavior, and it's all rather realistic and makes a lot of sense. And I'm addicted.
I found out about them in a round about way - Nix
I think what fascinates me about them, is the Dom/sub element. A Lead Centaur is most definitely Dominant, and any other male he deals with (centaur or human) will have to be subordinate to him, so the whole dynamic of Gibbs being the team leader and most definitely "top dog" in his relations with his team and the other members of his hand picked "herd" fit in just perfectly.
Don't know if this kind of thing squicks you - I know it does some (and I used to be one of them.) But if it doesn't, they're worth checking out.

Date: 2006-04-02 05:36 pm (UTC)Yeah, I can relate. What got me was that I really liked her other NCIS fic, and I kept seeing new chapters go up, and they sounded interesting. I just kept saying...gee, if only that wasn't about centaurs, I'd read it. Finally I gave in and read the first two or three (shorter pieces), then suddenly, I was hooked. It still embarrasses me sometimes, but I'm willing to work through it, and admit my weakness... *g*
