Some things are even better the second time!

I still think I know who my remixer was, but they completely surprised me with the fic they chose. It's just a little challenge response for [livejournal.com profile] nialla42 that I didn't even name, but was written to the prompt 'aliens didn't make them do it, but now that you mention it, that's an interesting idea...' aaaaaages ago.

My story: which has no title. It's the Aliens Didn't Make Them Do It fic.

The remix: Wierded Out (the all puns intended remix)

Now, let me tell you why this is a cool remix: first of all, it's a much better title, second, they flipped the POV to Jack's and in doing so opened up the possibility from the setup (Jack visits Daniel, who comes home worn out and then has a cryptic conversation with Mitchell on the phone about what they can and cannot say in a mission report) that things were not fine, and that maybe something had gone down during the mission and how Jack and Daniel would deal with it.

So cool. They basically took an A(didn't)MTDI challenge and flipped it back to the cliche, but because you know that it's S9, and therefore Jack isn't on the team, and it's an established relationship, so there's the confessional aspect, and all of that keeps the ideas really fresh, so you can't anticipate what she's going to do, and it's not a cliche, and it's just a wicked cool remix. With a way better title.

So thank you lovely remixer person, who shall remain nameless in case I'm wrong about who you really are. (ETA: for the record, I was totally wrong! Wrong wrong wrong. Seanchaidh, love, you did a great job.)

There are some really impressive remixes out there, but here are my favorites so far (the rest can be found through multiple search criteria to narrow it down from the Remix home page here) and the original stories are all linked from the remix page. (How much work did they do? This was just amazing)

SG-1: A Sudden Clearing (the Past Is Future remix) of Tripoli's If the Sycamore, Swaying. Amazing story centering on Teal'c, and Sam and Daniel and Jack, but all revolving around Teal'c. S9, gen, heartbreaking.

Firefly: Canticle for These Women, remix of the gorgeous Daughters of Jerusalem by Hth. Love the original, love Mal's POV in the remix, there is marvelous psychological complexity and the writing is elegant. Deserving remix of an extraordinary original fic. Poly, het, adult.

I'm likely to post more recs later, and they'll announce authors at some point and I'll repost my fic here, likely; you're welcome to try to guess which it was, though.

Damn! That A sudden Clearing was cold! Cold but in an awesome way! Where do I go to see more of these remix thingies? Wow...

They are all accessible from the Remix home page here (http://remix.illuminatedtext.com/), which was a little too subtley coded in the post, but I've made it bigger now. From the stories page, you can go to just the SG-1 fics, or just this years, or to other fandom's stories... it's really well organized.

A Sudden Clearing was something, wasn't it? Amazing how strong every single relationship was.

Thank you for the link. And oh yeah, it's so powerful. All the emotions there, Jack being so furious, Sam not falling apart because she knew what she was doing and poor Daniel not knowing what really happened until the end. It's amazing what a few words can do when put together the right way.

I loved, I mean really adored, how much Daniel's forgiveness mattered. And that it wasn't taken for granted that he would forgive the killing of yet another person he cared about, but if he could do it, then Jack damn well could too. Loved Jack needing Daniel there. Loved Jack being the only one who could understand it, Sam the only one who could do it, and Daniel the one who forgives it. Awesome like a very awesome thing.

There's some other really good ones there too. I read through a bunch of them and I can't remember their names, but I will be pimping the site. How does one become a member there? It wasn't particularly clear to my poor brain.

[livejournal.com profile] remixredux is, I believe a comm or a journal, so all you have to do it friend it. The challenge is once a year, so when the signups were out I commented and all the rest of the corrospondence was done over email.
