writing update and Farscape meta

First: teh porn. Lip Service now has upwards of 4400 words, but I think it might be crap. We shall see how it fares in Beta World. Might just post the first 1300 words as that was not so bad. Which is to say, tension was maintained. This may or may not be related to the list I wrote the extended flashfic for demanding a sequel. Pretties. They might not might if the tension isn't maintained throughout. I think they like resolution for some reason. *shrugs*

Now, to teh Farscape (and you thought SGA was on crack. Well, the fandom totally is. Farscape? the whole show is on crack.)

Bone to be Wild:

The title is punny. *groan*. Someone tell me how a dark asteroid field is going to provide enough light for a diverse array of plant life to photosynthesize like a mad tropical paradise? Also, where is all the mist and atmosphere and RAIN coming from?

Kick ASS, Zhaan is a plant, yeeee! Though why she's blue is a bit beyond me. Green would be good. I do like John's wtf? yet kewl. response. Wierd stuff is still wierd even when it's fascinating. The knee-jerk Whoa! bit is good. Nice, Ben!

Also, I'm listening to Anthony Simcoe wax poetic about Claudia Black and I'm starting to think these guys are their own biggest fans. So cute, but I do hope they're all using protection.

So the Not Nice Muppets were initially an obstacle for me dealing with Farscape but I do love how they allow the guest Aliens to have blinking lights on their heads and be giant walking pizza and it's totally fine. Also, I love the closeups on Pilot's eyes as Claudia communes with the red baby ship. Very expressive. Also, it's nice to know what the name Talyn refers to finally.

And Anthony loves Ben too. Awwww. What a softie. And he loves his guest stars, and his director, and Wayne Pygram (whose name I may have just misspelled) and Gigi Edgley.... I do recognize Bernie's voice. Probably from Stargate but I don't remember exactly what episode. CRAP! He was NEM in the wet!Daniel episode! Dayum. Knew I recognized his voice. I don't understand why falling through the pizza's-expando-laser is going to slice him in half, though. I mean, shouldn't it kill Zhaan and *hand flails* wouldn't it be a PROBLEM if the data stream of expando-Zhaan was interrupted? Like, she'd be missing a kidney at the very least?

Do they point guns in every episodes? Hmmmm.

The boneiferous chick is a really cool character: dangerous but sympathetic. Alien and yet shooting spikes out of her shoulders. Plus the blinky light show coming out of her ears is new and different. Is her name Emily or Em-Lee? Huh. I've always thought those dark contact lenses were a cool effect. From Betazoids to ... whatever Em-Lee is, it's just enough off center to make a critter feel subtley alien. Plus, I have a serious thing for dark eyes, so I think it's sexy as all get out.

Right, next? Family Ties.

Claudia and Ben doing commentaries are so. entertaining. I love how invested they are in their characters and motivations and Aeryn had this line about testosterone that got a huge laugh and everyone loved it and Claudia apparently fought it because even though it was popular she thought it was too much of an Earth-based reference. *loves Claudia* This sort of makes me adore Vala that much more too, oddly.

Rygel Rygel Rygel. I still have trouble suspending disbelief with Rygel. Maybe if the lip synch on his words were a little better, but you know? I prefer muppet!Yoda to CGI!Yoda, even though CGI!Yoda fights.

Crace is sorta pretty. *pets Crace* *smooths his hair back* There's really a lot of crying in this episode. Must be annoying to have to serve two masters with season enders that might be series finales as well. Hmm. I don't have any really deep thoughts on this except that I wouldn't trust that space suit to protect me from the lack of elements out in space. And I really, really don't get how D'Argo is just going to be fine for 15 minutes and then pass out. *handwavy dance of letting it go*

Wait, is that a supersoaker that they're using to add catalyst to their extremely potent explosive? A supersoaker??? God, this series is on crack. I love it. Bring on season 2!

It's kind of nice as a fan to watch things on DVD and not have to wait to find out if there will be a next season or even just wait for next week for a new episode.

I'm pretty sure there were lots of blue plants on the planet they visited in Throne for a Loss. So blue plants is probably just an other-side-of-the-wormhole thing.

BTBW is kind of filler-y, IMHO. But M'Lee was the first character in the series to be played by the amazingly cool Fran Buller (who is, incidentally, married to Ben Browder).

My theory is that the essential difference between Farscape science and Stargate science is that in Stargate, they would have Sam technobabble for a bit to try to give the impression that the science makes sense. Whereas in Farscape, they just don't bother.

In season 2, Ro'Na, season 3, Raxil, and season 4 and the miniseries, War Minister Akhna.

And yup, always under the Creature Shop's finest prosthetics. They discovered it was relatively hard to find actors who could wear the really heavy prosthetics without getting claustrophobia and really sell a role, so they tended to recycle them a lot (there's one guy, Thomas Holesgrove, who plays about 90% of the Scarrans ever).

Apparently she only auditioned for a role in the first place because BB wouldn't shut up at home about how cool the show was. Then TPTB went round for a week going, "Oh god, what if she sucks, what are we going to say to Ben?" *g* Fortunately, she wiped the floor with everyone else at the auditions.

She rocks, and is very funny and charming at conventions.

I always had a love/hate thing going on with Crais. He just didn't fit the mold...of what a PKeeper was supposed to be. Very emotional, very involved, didn't obey orders, very individualistic...all displayed at the drop of a hat when he finds out his brother was killed.

Took a long time for me to realize what was throwing me; lemme know when you've seen That Old Black Magic.

It is, isn't it? And it will get moreso. I haven't watched Farscape since it's original run on SciFi, except for an occasional taped episode I run across here and there. Really need to rent 'em. And want to hear the commentaries.

I wasn't into 'fandoms' at all when Farscape ran, just liked it for what it was. I loved it when it was on, partly because they didn't spend a lot of time explaining. You just have to go with it. *insert hand-waving here* This is how it is in their universe. *boogle* I was surprised how attached I ended up getting with the muppets. And Crais. And even Scorpy/Harvey. *eep*

Yay for DVD's that you can watch without commercials and no waiting for next week or season. And really? Don't try to apply your medical or science knowledge on this show, it ain't gonna work there so much.

I often wondered about Crichton's earth pop culture references and how many of them were dismissed by the crew. They should have looked at him and said 'WTF?'

Well, I don't think I've seen the light orgasm, but I'll keep an eye out. The commentaries are really interesting so far, possibly because they seem to have waited longer to do them so the actors (and it's mostly our beloved actors rather than directors lauding their favorite camera angles *yawn* and toilet humor) have a few more years of perspective. Claudia and Ben in particular have incredible chemistry just talking about the episode. Rock on!

And in Family Ties at least, John and D'Argo are about to launch themselves into space but first John says something about Kirk and Spock and Abbott and Costello, with D'Argo just patiently looking at him waiting for him to get on with it. I liked that response. Like, we know you do this, but no one else understands and that's really very tedious. *glee*

You know, I think I love them. *loves* And I ignore the blueness of Zhaan. *handwave dance*

yes. it's wonderful to revisit in that way. i also watch in chunks of 4 or 5 episodes in a row. that works better because of my poor impulse control in waiting for certain episodes, as well as time limitations.

As far as I can see, either it's all the best PR act ever, or they do all really love each other. In a loud, semi-crazed, and possibly violent way, but love nonetheless.

There was a recent interview with BB where he was saying wistfully that the thing he's finding it hardest to adjust to is the lack of screaming rows on the SG-1 set. Apparently it's just not the same without him and David Kemper going toe-to-toe in the car park yelling at each other about plot points.

But they should really make BB write an ep. Because if they don't, he'll just continue being polite and shy and not asking to.

And he's fantastic at writing eps in which everyone gets something cool to do. Not to mention being a big canon whore and so forth.

Yes, sometimes it's refreshing to watch a "dead" show. Not only do you not have to worry about renewals or wait for your next fix, but you also don't have to deal with the day-to-day fandom wank while waiting for your next fix.

Yes? I'd say maybe half a dozen total. There are at least two with Claudia and Ben, one in the first half of the season and the finale episode, Anthony Simcoe commented on the season's penultimate episode, and there were several more early on.

Not every ep, though.
