trawling through other's recs
Feb. 2nd, 2006 11:36 amI couldn't sleep last night. It was freakish. I have had two bouts of insomnia in my past, but both were stress induced and I'm really not that stressed at the moment. I prefer to blame the temperature in the house, which might have been too high, or a possible issue with my eating and drinking choices (although how drinking beer would keep me awake I dunno). ETA: Mom and I theorize that weather is inducing pre-migraine wierdness. Have taken prophylactic ibuprophen.
Did watch a friend of mine guest star on a stupid Lifetime Network show called Strong Medicine... I usually do NOT watch medical shows, but my FRIEND was on it. Sadly, not enough, and there was this farcical bit with an elephant, but the fact that you could... nevermind. It was brilliant to see my friend actually on screen and match up her stories with the scenes that she was in (too few! Cut the elephant! More FRIEND!) I, um, totally understand why the show was cancelled, though.
So the lovely
katie_m recc'd comfort fic the night of the State Of the Union speech. Very appropriate. I don't remember what I did, but I wasn't watching Bush. I can't listen to him "speak". Gives me pains in my heart.
Now, John Stewart I will listen to. Heck, for John Stewart I'd offer my body for sexual favors. He definitely has my vote (and my body) should he ask for it. (John, call me!)
Anyway, comfort fic I haven't seen or recc'd before:
nandamai does write some beautiful pieces, doesn't she? Not always my pairing of choice, but the point is moot when it's not a pairing: Jack/Sam/Daniel in a post-Moebius fic This Is the Way. I'm assuming that the title is from the T.S.Eliot (I think, please correct me if I'm wrong) quote "This is the way the world ends: not with a bang, but a whimper." And if so, it's a moving choice. A quiet interlude between it all going to hell and back. And you can not have too much post-Moebius fics.
If A Tree Falls by
thegrrrl2002, whom I adore unconditionally, but I don't always go back and reread her SG-1 stuff because... it makes me sad sometimes that's she doesn't write them anymore. This is lovely, though. Beautiful few days of downtime and just Jack and Daniel and communicating and not... beautiful quiet moments. And with teh sexy, natch.
Tangent off of Katie's recs: The theme of showing off, being proud of Daniel reminded me of reading Pepe's newest fic last night in the wee hours called Kissing Frogs. Dancing In the Dark fans will appreciate the mirror of Jack-come-lately to bisexuality and Daniel being the more secure one, in a way, as well as the notion of just never having noticed before, but now... rawr. Pepe has a love for first time fics, and this does not disappoint. It's gentle and sweet in its discovery.
That's all for now.

Date: 2006-02-03 04:37 am (UTC)BUT! Then someone flashed shiny 'Lantis in front of me and ooooooh John and Rodney! and I still have pretty pretty smut from you to read. Plus, you're a fashion super star with Rx shades, so. Cain't complain.

Date: 2006-02-03 03:48 pm (UTC)I'm not sure why, but I have totally fallen for John and Rodney. Maybe I like having fresh canon, but also, they are such fascinating characters.
And I can't stop watching your icon. *g* Could Rodney be any cuter?

Date: 2006-02-03 06:07 pm (UTC)I've been thinking, and I do b'lieve it's the orange safety glasses that kick the icon into the realm of absolutely adorable. You have read 24 Hours with a Rodneysaur, right? Because that is so cute too.
