The Guy Who Came In From The Cold. Rodney in Siberia from [livejournal.com profile] sdraevn, because you know that was snarky.

Sixteen Hundred Miles by [livejournal.com profile] theemdash. Jack/Daniel, long distance and fallible and together and Not Talking. A stand alone second installment of a three part series. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] paian for the pointer and making me all *thinky* about the deftness of writers who let the boys be tacturn but still manage to communicate what they would like to say to the reader.

[livejournal.com profile] dustandroses has gone on a fic posting rampage over at [livejournal.com profile] dustys_fic, with Firefly (Mal/Jayne) and NCIS (Gibbs/DiNozzo) that I saw. Haven't read yet, am bookmarking for later, but NCIS enthusiasts may not want to wait for the critical review.

Now, go read A Dirty Wind by [livejournal.com profile] cofax7.

I'm just going to repeat that in case you didn't hear me: Go read A Dirty Wind by [livejournal.com profile] cofax7. It's an apocolypse story, where one day in Season 7 they didn't manage to save the world. The 'verse is the This Is Not Wartime series, many of which can stand on their own and are also extraordinary, but listen, this one? Is not skippable. Because the characterization is incredible: they've all had their journeys and their individual heartbreak, and they survived the initial part and made it back together and are going to try to fix it now, only they know they're fallible, and they don't have the same resources. Cofax has a brilliant way of starting the story out at a fast pace to nab you, get you committed, and then as D-Day approaches, time dilates and does that wierd thing where waiting for word stretches into eternity... Deft use of three different POVs (Jack, Sam and Daniel an OC Jaffa) and multilayered, interesting, sympathetic OCs (even the one's who only show for a little while in this story) an elegantly woven, logical progression of events and beautiful straightforward prose.

It's a long story (novel length. For exact word count, ask cofax. She knows right off the top of her head, I guarantee it) but it will fly by. This is the standard by which apocafics will be measured, if you only read one, read this one. Although, I just got my apocolyptathon assignment in the mail so I'm hoping that in June or whenever they're due, you'll read mine too.

Yup, nothing can chase A Dirty Wind off the page so we'll end with that one. Highly recommended, folksies. It was initially posted to LJ but this is the edited, smoothed version on cofax's website. Consider, though, moseying over to her lj here to leave nice feedback for her.
