I've just been watching [livejournal.com profile] yuletide. I'm newish to LJ (less than a year) so I didn't really know what it was and I am just blown away by the breadth of fandoms out there. It's introduced me to whole new universes of fanfic, not that I'm likely to stop being mostly mono-fannish anytime soon.

I don't know how to describe it, but I have never really known other people to be fannish about literature, so I am delighted, thrilled and oddly hysterical to rec a fic from the Dark Is Rising series of books: The End of the Summer by [livejournal.com profile] ashkitty. It's a gen moment between Will and Bran at the end of the life Bran chose. And it is just gorgeous in a memories surfacing, old friends returning way.

Winnie the Pooh 'verse by [livejournal.com profile] loligo: In Which A New Child Comes To The Forest (who would be Christopher Robin's son), and Christopher Robin learns something very sweet.

In Fairy Tales, meaning mostly Sleeping Beauty, but others are woven in there too, is written a complex, multilayered tale of the true nature of the Witch by [livejournal.com profile] lisan. Wicked, this is not, this witch is bitter and twisted, and she may not have twisted her past, but she has spelled her own future, and beautiful is the love that watches her do it.

Brought to Light by [livejournal.com profile] ranalore in the Ladyhawke fandom, is something that I read on [livejournal.com profile] katie_m's recommendation without knowing the fandom at all, and it is psychologically complex and lovingly resolved.

In the Tortall 'verse, which is detailed in several series by Tamora Pierce, is a curiously sad friendship fic called Old Bones and Memories by Rachael Sabotini (=[livejournal.com profile] wickedwords). It's not a character I've read yet in Tortall, but now I really want to.

Also, a pretty story of how the great heroes inspire the little ones: Of Valor by [livejournal.com profile] temaris, also Tortall 'verse.

So for the rest, there are a number of Brokeback Mountain fics that I shan't read until I get my lazy ass to the movie theater, and there are quite a few Narnia fics which I'm also not reading, for the same reason. Loved loved loved the written work for those, though.

And... transitioning into television fandoms: Dead Like Me was an extraordinary drama and Mandy Patinkin, playing Rube, was never less than remarkable in a multidimentional, faceted, utterly unique role. It is like seeing an old picture you'd forgotten about to read a fic so him. And Never Lose Affection.

Also Dead Like Me (I do miss that show) a moment when Reggie (George's little sister), Daisy and Roxy cross paths, and let them stay crossed for an interlude. Bedtime Story (with Strawberries and Cream).

Right, so some Stargate:

[livejournal.com profile] paian wrote Walls and Mirrors, which is Jack/Daniel and posted like, 5 seconds ago, so I haven't read it yet, but I still loved it. Even better than Cats. More thorough rec to come.
ETA: okay, here it is. I loved this because it worships the beginning, the first revelation that might have brought Jack and Daniel past friendship and into something more. I loved their individual responses to it, and love how they never push each other past bearing. S4.

Then, an author I DID NOT KNOW, but have now read Everything I Could Find. Icarus, darling, sign me up for your fanclub, you write really gorgeous moments and find such interesting things to say in them. Two favorites: Shy Guy, which introduced me to her (thanks to a rec from [livejournal.com profile] padawan_ally. *hugs*, though, you don't know me and will probably be a little scared by that) and does a brilliant job of letting two tacturn guys be hawt together. And Between the Lines for the aforementioned interesting moment amid slash.

Also? [livejournal.com profile] thegrrrl2002 writes very, very hot John/Rodney slash, this should not be news, really, but here's a specific rec: This one is a first time, with interesting twists about who knew they were gay and who didn't, and how that doesn't actually match up with how okay each of them are with it. Simple fic, with the hawt sexy, and the competant people still able to do their jobs, and well executed. And, I liked the angst in a big way. We All Arrive By Different Streets. Atlantis, John/Rodney, adult.

The ficathon didn't translate into deadline pressure for me, I had the thing written and in beta a month before deadline, it was ridiculous. I'm glad your omg multiple!ficathon commitments jump started you, though I don't think I could have survive writing in three different fandoms. To prompts.

Which brings me to the wtf moment: now, I'm new to ficathons, but totally ignoring your persons request? Why sign up for the ficathon at all if you thought your ideas were better? Even if you didn't *like* your prompts (and I have to admit to rolling my eyes a bit and the Daniel whumping request that I got) ... nevermind. Don't mind me, I'm just bitter that my ficathon person totally flaked on me so I still haven't seen my present piece.

And, erm. Yeah, I need to work on the smutfic, even though Jack and Daniel are barely referenced. I just hit a major milestone at work, got permission to stop experimenting and just write the scientific papers, actually graduate... so it will be nice to have a little more free time (or at least, not feel the need to work so hard.) Smut, here I come! Woo hoo!

I love your smut table. I miss Jack and Daniel too. *wobbles lower lip*

And, Icarus is way cool. I'm thrilled to have met her.
