Rediscovering Sal
Dec. 7th, 2005 06:11 pmFirst of all, Argentine Tango is the. sexiest. dance. ever. Whoever said that in the theater when two people sing together they're falling in love, and when they dance together are making love, hadn't danced the tango, because then they would know that there are dances that mean making love off of a stage as well.
falling falling falling.
pay attention to your lead. if he's a strong lead, you needn't worry.
Why yes, I have been reading Firefly fic, why do you ask?
Specifically, I had two fanfics from Salieri recc'd to me recently, and I, shockingly, hadn't read either one before.
And Sal is one of my favorite authors, one I will read almost anything from, even if it's not my pairing, even if I never thought I would be in the mood for a reaver fic.
Because it's Sal. By which, you should understand I mean you should absolutely read this fic too, I don't care whether you think you'll like it. It will probably break you a little bit, and goodness knows it must have been hard to write, but the redemption is gorgeous. Every member of the crew is a line of music. Jayne is a complex psychological creature surviving as best he can.
You will all go read this now: Utopia by Salieri (
troyswann).
Then, I almost thought I'd read this before, realizing only on reading the authors notes that Teal'c reciting poetry in the first section was also present in the wonderously funny Elvis Has Left The Building. Sal, apparently, saw a greater story in a man and a woman who had been happy once, and built a gorgeous and bittersweet story around the few fleeting images we have of Drey'ac and what she told us of life in the camps, when her husband left her the burden of living under Apophis' rule.
It's a rare gem of a tale, and so different from 'Elvis' that I almost want to think they can't have been the same passage. The Water Moon.
Here ends the worship of Sal for today. Stay tuned for further episodes.
Oh, but I do need to mention the rather wonderful Drabble On Demand that
janedavitt wrote to the prompt "at his/her/your most beautiful" in SG-1. She didn't take it where I expected her to. It's more wonderful this way. And ow. But wonderful. Broken.
And, the Teal'c fic recs have been updated and cross referenced, in a rather alarming demonstration of organizational prowess. I blame
rydra_wong. Go forth, ye minions, and giggle.
