Weekend recs part 2
Feb. 10th, 2008 11:20 amA February Weekend Recs List, Part the second.
To continue with the genderswap theme:
rageprufrock for 14 Valentines wrote Lustrous, a mckay/sheppard genderswap that fabulously sets up the situation as voluntary, temporary and something McKay finds interesting and fascinating. It's a bit of a twist on the general trope of resisting seeing how the other half lives, and Rodney is characteristically funny about it. NC-17.
princessofg posted several more parts to her 1950's AU WIP called Maybe It Was Memphis (link goes to part 9) The story itself is evolving to nicely show the trust building up between Jack as a Blue Angles pilot and Daniel as a Professor and government consultant, but the illicitness of the affair and the danger of their situation is really nicely present. NC-17.
Who's Left and Who's Leaving , a fascinating take on apocafic by attrition, from
fiercelydreamed was posted as part of SGA flashfic's Ways to Die Challenge. I don't want to give much away, but it's *fascinating* and highly recommended. Team, gen, worksafe.
It's now been thoroughly jossed by canon, but this is brilliant backstory for John, and a psychologically complex, structurally interesting way towards hooking up with his best friend.
busaikko's Five, Four, Three, Two, One (Zero) (SGA, NC17, mckay/sheppard sga)
agentotter, who is a rather fabulous writer, wrote the rather amazing Borrowing Freedom, a backstory for Mal that sets up just after the war on Whitefall, without a full work permit, without much hope and without a future. But there's a wonderful horse. Gen.
kalquessa wrote a brilliantly funny Sam-is-kick-ass story (with gladiators) called Girls (and Jaffa) Do Not Fight Fair that is just so wonderfully teamy and happy, after a mission return delayed. Team, S8, worksafe.
katie_m's remix_redux fic from a few years ago gave me a nice boost of confidence writing poetry for my last story, but this one also has some fantastic strong Sam, and a wonderful outside POV of our strong Sam. It's a brilliant story, very well told. The Sangata, Book 1 (The Ramayana Remix); (Stargate: SG1, Sam Carter, worksafe)
audrarose's Enough For Me is a cute little 'don't wanna go home in the middle of the night' story. I'm still not sure when I started being okay with rps, but this fandom does wierd things to me. And it's sweet, cuddle, nearly-asleep schmoop. *shrugs* (Jensen/Jared, rps, SPN, NC-17)
Pimping:
The next conversation in the People of Color SF Carnival will be hosted by
ladyjax on the subject of Intraracial Dialog (What Lies Between Us). Defining self and variations between, the ways community calls out and forgives it's own. Links are solicited, through the end of the month.
abyssinia4077 is hosting a prompted Stargate comment ficathon to cure the February blues, and is taking prompts through the 12th, writing open through the end of the month. Go Here to Prompt, YAY. Gen, smut, crack and kink welcome, no bashing. SGA prompts are a little low right now.
