short little recs post
Dec. 8th, 2007 11:51 amI love this icon and I rarely use it. Huh.
To begin with, two stories of Sam in Atlantis. And I have to say that the interesting working relationship between Sam and John is one of the more subtle and interesting deliberate friendships I've seen the writers outline. It's second to Daniel and Teal'c, probably. I should finish that fic, speaking of. Maybe today is the day I'll finish the editing.
So, Sam in Atlantis. First with John, in an elegant push-pull of differing needs. Friendship, gen and passionate. When I go into the grass of the sea floor, I will go alone from
splash_the_cat. Gen, Sam and John, PG-13, SGA S4 spoilers for Reunion.
Then one of my favorite threesomes of all time: Rodney/Sam/John. For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky from
sandrine. Fade-to-black allows for a nice play of observation and subtle interactions. PG-13, possibly worksafe, threesome, S4 SGA (or SGA/SG-1), Sam/Rodney/John.
I would just like to say that these, and other titles I've read recently, KICK ASS. Plus the Sandburg poem Splash took her title from is elegant. I love finding poetry this way. I have been on a poetry kick of late; could probably do a quote dump of just poetry sometime soon.
The Drunkenness of Some Other Tavern, by Jeylan. Jack and Daniel, with genderswitch and effective AMTDI or something, but despite these broad hammerlike warnings, a subtle emotional coming together and growing self-awareness on the part of *both* Jack and Daniel, in different ways and unique to their personalities. Surprising story, and there's nothing hugely sudden about it. SG-1, Jack/Daniel, NC-17, het and slash.
Title from Rumi (author notes the exerpt at the end). See what I mean about the awesomeness of fandom bringing me poetry?
...oh look, she's written something else. *notes for future reading*
From
choc_fic (who are still accepting prompts for the next round--I prompted with remarkably sad prompts, but had a HELL of a time listing pairings or characters. I even waffled on fandoms for a while there. So go even out the SG-1 or otherwise prompts with some happy stuff, okay?)
Anyway, the last round of
choc_fic saw
rydra_wong writing in Farscape. Now, I found this due to the het meme that may or may not have gotten people's back up for implying that missionary position was overused (get over selves, I may or may not say, self-analysis is good for you. Thankfully, though, I, once again, blissfully avoided the entirety of the wank. If there was any) Rydra actually described this story as "missionary-position plant-sex with cannibalism" in the meme. How can you not run off to read that? Marvelous. Crais/Zhaan, NC-17, Farscape. Uncharted Death Trip.
From the Jack/Daniel Kissathon, glorious, intimate smut: This Time from
paian. Two wonderful comments-full. It's fantastic to me how creative fandom can be, too. A kiss like that? Not anything I would have expected (plant-sex with cannibalism either, for that matter.) But then again, Komos could probably write either Jack or Daniel reading the dictionary to each other and I'd find it impossibly sexy and interesting. NC-17, Jack/Daniel, SG-1. NSFW.
And last but not least-
synecdochic's Broken Wing's 'verse. This little AU is so elegant in it's maturity, and so desperately aching at this point in the story. The author, through her clone!Jack protagonist, has described Jack as a person trying very hard to serve a bunch of complicated truths. It is difficult and wonderful to watch that service play out for a number of complicated characters in parts 10 and 11, (11 particularly,) as the layers of truths and needs and hurts play among people intimately connected, whether they want to be or not, and sometimes bolster and sometimes infuriate. It's a difficult place to live, so I suggest you apply the balm of new porn paragraphs, written for me in the midst of a bad string of weeks of headaches of various flavors (and believe me, it was good medicine.)
And, shockingly, I even remember that I need to tag myself for the newsletter since they're on holiday. This? Is the kind of thing I was completely incapable of remembering before I mostly controlled my headaches. (Mostly, good enough, I'll take it.)
