minxy: Teal'c raises a hand to say "hey". (Default)
I'm sort of doing a two week intensive course in finishing one's dissertation down here in Houston, and as a result haven't got a whole lot of leeway to be mucking around LJ and goofing off as I really do want to get some stuffs done.

But this shouldn't wait, because it's a plea. A PLEA, my flisters! There are few Teal'c disciples the way there are, say, Daniel disciples and even fewer people who take the chance and write the man. He is underloved, but it's crazy because even though the man is softspoken and stoic, he's also a father separated from his son, a widower who feels like a cuckold, a lover who has never made the same commitment he was able to make with his wife, a hero without a home, a student become teacher in the wrong classroom, a student of human behavior and possibly the perfect observer as well as being a most capable, controlled and powerful force.

Now, why isn't their more fiction written about Teal'c? Write him as a periphery character, as the subject, as one who has two lifetimes of backstory untouched by canon... or go over to [livejournal.com profile] tealc_ficathon and sign up for a prompt and give some ideas for another to use and start there; because, let's face it, the guy is a little intimidating, with his perfect grammar and his lack of slang, and you gotta start somewhere.

There are few of us who are vocal about Teal'c, at least on my flist; this brand spankin' new ficathon could really use some participation beyond the core group of people we can reasonably rely on to represent. So consider going over there if you're a writer but haven't really been T focused, or if you're a fan but don't know where to start with writing, or if you've ever ever thought Teal'c ought to have a little more fanfic love. Go. People the ficathon. Take a chaaaaaaance!

You needn't write from Teal'c's POV, and so far the requests (there aren't many yet) are pretty open-ended, with mostly people just asking you to please, for the love of God avoid the mpreg stories. You can do that, right?

It won't hurt. Please think about it? Go look and laugh at my requests? Sign-ups open 'til the ides of March.

(Et tu, Brute?)

I'm still here, I still like Houston way a lot. 'Specially if this weather holds because Pacific Northwesterners? We forget what that big round orb making light and warmth in the sky is most winters. *curls up in the sun like a cat*

*or not, cause the sun has gone down now, but will curl up like a cat tomorrow*

In the meantime, to celebrate being productive today, I'm eating dinner, watching Monty Python and collecting my recs... Yay!

Fanfic recs:

Continuing the trend I've seen lately of appreciating the peeps comes Madelyn Appreciation Day AKA [livejournal.com profile] favoritefangirl for [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn. I think that's just brilliant, seeing as she seems to be everywhere enough that I've met her in silico a couple of times and really liked the things she had to say. I also like the things she inspires, including a spate of John/Rodney fics that were really sumpin' sumpin'.

I particularly liked [livejournal.com profile] astolat's Composition, the third part of the rather voyeuristicly grand tagteamed trilogy of guh: Resolution by [livejournal.com profile] resonant8 and Clarity by [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza being the first two parts.

Also liked Lists and Candy Bars by [livejournal.com profile] violetsmiles and Focus/Wealth by [livejournal.com profile] trinityofone.

More stuffs:

Separate from that is a lovely Teyla POV slashfic by [livejournal.com profile] ladycat777 called Delicately Balancing.

Jack/Daniel, mmmmm: [livejournal.com profile] janedavitt wrote Carved. It's lovely. Sexy and forbidden and utterly normal.

And, continuing the theme of Everyone Please Consider Signing Up for the Undersubscribed [livejournal.com profile] tealc_ficathon (500 word minimum, easy payments!) we have two! TWO TEAL'C FICS! ETA: THREE! *glee*

First, something old: [livejournal.com profile] psychofilly's Untitled Sam and Teal'c Have a Bonding Moment and Hammond has to Poke Jack in the Ribs to Make Him Behave fic. This is why you should name your own fics, people. But seriously, I really thought I'd recc'd this before...

Next, something new: [livejournal.com profile] minnow1212's Something Sweet, which is gen, marvelously layered and just really fine.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] delphia2000 Commentfic'd for ME here. This, ladies and gentlemen (if there are any) is a totally acceptable way to decline ficathon participation in my world, especially if one's attention is usually focused on M7 cowboy love but she wrote MY pairing for me (which would be Cam/Teal'c at the moment.) *loves*

Also, I've been reading Peg B again, and this time [livejournal.com profile] dirty_diana's Angels in the Architecture. It's beautiful. Not the Ba'al 'verse, for those who've noticed how often I rec from that offshoot, this is just a cloud of an aftermath, and the reality of living in a place where the rules are constantly being rewritten; you question everything after a while. [livejournal.com profile] pengke's creepy girl They Whisper From the Silence is a nifty coda. [livejournal.com profile] sffan's Resurrection is also a fantastic sequel to Angels in the Architecture. Poor Rodney, though.
