Wow, with all the emails and comments and stuffs... either I've had computer issues for a while here, or y'all talk too much. Verdict isn't in yet.

Meanwhile, hopefully I'll have wonderful things to read. And, should anyone care to volunteer, I'm in need of a gen beta for a Sam & Daniel S9 fic. I actually think it might want to go Sam/Daniel, so I'll need a beta willing to talk with me about that *eyes slashers*. Please? I'll let you pet my shiny new computer (but just a little bit. Don't want fingerprints).

*sigh* It's nice to be back! Somebody sum up what I missed while I dance the happy for a bit.

Well, lemme get through some great concrit from delph and then I'll revisit the idea. The draft wasn't absolutely complete so now I want to polish a bit, especially before I cold email someone I don't know yet. *grins shyly*

Ahhh...FROM EXPERIENCE, *I* know that there is no better BETA than Delph. I mean, the woman *IS* a writer, she offers WONDERFUL suggestions, and her bloodying up is so very THOROUGH, but also sincere and kind.

LOL, the first time I talked to delph about writing, she warned me not to ask for concrit unless I meant it, but I've found her to be both sincere and kind as well, so either I'm not fragile, or she's not as harsh as she *claims*.

Yup, the best. We wuvs her. I do feel a bit strange asking for beta on something that wasn't a complete draft... that was new. Normally I work on something on my own for a long time and get it as done as I can, but in this case I was at an impasse and her opinions as well as concrit within the story are really going to focus it, I think.

When I get to editing, of course. RL...omg. Not so much with the free time for fun stuffs lately. I've barely been reading, but then, there aren't a lot of SG-1 fics showing up...

Must work on that. Oh! wait, that requires free time. *face/palm*

Betas are wonderful fabulous things. Did you see the discussion going on about them on sg_workshop? They're also discussing the writing process, and I'm totally fascinated! It's like crack!

Agreed on the beta thing. They are difficult to find but when you find one that you can work with and does wonders with your work then... hold onto for dear life! (calls blessings onto Amity's head)

No offence but... you talking about me here? (if you are... awww shucks! Thank you!;)) Because I'm a terrible beta - my grammar is just... Do Not Go There! Bloody awful just about covers it. I can express myself like this but it's not good enough for writing as a recent airing of peeves etc noted that there are those who won't read a story if the grammar throws them a curve ball... *sigh*

If you need proof, you should read one of my efforts before Amity/Saladscream get a hold of it and after they've put it through it's paces. I'm sure there is a world of difference!

Salad is also called upon to do the beta'ing for all the stuff that goes onto Pepe's site. Despite the fact that she's ESL, she's very good. As for Amity - who is very open minded and very meticulous - I'll ask when she gets back to me if she's willing to take on more writers. She has two of mine at the moment, so we shall see...;)

Well, I thought I had another Ewan icon, but I can't find it. We'll just have to sit and ponder the kilt again. *ponder ponder*

But, seriously, who isn't obsessed with Ewan? The first two Star Wars eps would have been LOST without Ewan. And he's dayum fine! Plus, he has a lovely singing voice...

I digress. Ahem. BETA! You know, on Pepe's list I'm waiting for a pimp your own fic day, and I figure, if I keep writing, maybe when it comes around I'll have something really good to pimp. For now, I'm just building up my portfolio. I'd love to have Salad or Amity look over some of my stuff, though. Would be so cool to get another perspective. I'm actually pondering whether it wouldn't be useful to send a piece I thought more or less finished to beta sometime just to see if they could take it a step further... dunno.

I really think, though, for the writer it's about the journey of getting the story finished. For the reader, it's all about the final product, and therefore I'm ALLOWED to say I think you're a good writer without any qualifications. Betas are beautiful and well love them, though. This is why we give them lots and lots of credit.

This one I think is going to be a more collaborative beta at this point than I've had in the past. Usually I have some proof reading lost commas, wierd spelling and a few questions posed to me in case I want to consider them. Once in a while a plot hole or something that is unclear (where they are, who is who, that kind of thing) needs to be fixed, but usually the draft is pretty *done*, and it sort of gets polished up in beta. No major plot changes or story points altered. This one? I just don't know which way to take it, or even if I should take it there at all. Kinda different.

We'll see what the opinions are, I guess.
