What's inside your fridge?
Half a CSA share, this week including lettuce, chard, parsnips, carrots, potato, zucchini, squash, radish, and... stuff. My friend L got the winter squash, since I recently stocked up on punkin and delicata. Also she got the tomatoes and herbs since I'm growing all of them in my garden and I can't stand fresh tomatoes (spit spit)
We also have a few days of pasta leftovers. Possibly, if you are not living with or part-Italian, you do not understand the magnificence of homemade, fresh, awesome pasta with shellfish and homegrown tomato red-sauce. It's got an Italian name. I do not remember it. It was a bloody fantastic meal and I am so, so lucky that E can cook like this.
Your Pet Peeves:
RL: This inanimate protein "wants" to be folded. GODDAMNIT WE TALKED ABOUT THIS FOR DAYS IT'S ENTROPY AND PROTEINS DO NOT HAVE A WILL.
...yes, I have been grading exams. Why do you ask?
Fanfic: people have a certain, indescribable smell (you're a writer. Describe it.)
Magic sex: PTSD and other mental illness are not cured via contact with genetalia, no matter how grand. Stop invoking mental illness and psychological trauma (I suppose I'd include rape here as well) as drama. No. No.
I'm getting tired of being called out of doing my job well, I suppose. That's a pet peeve. Also, I have round three of the children in positions of power meeting tomorrow at 8 AM. Your good wishes, from wherever you are, are appreciated. I'll need the moral support.
Also, as a side note, what's the origin of the word "peeve"? Anyone know?

A ha ha ha, yes! I mean, to this general concept. Sometimes it can be helpful, conceptually, to anthropomorphize things in science as an analogy, but that slippery slope is quite the doozy.
Lots of luck for round three! I hope the children have grown up a tad.
(Minxy - I am preparing to submit my first faculty app later today. AH!)

Date: 2013-10-01 03:51 am (UTC)Oh, good luck. I hope you end up somewhere wonderful.
The children have not grown up. Possibly they are trying to do something illegal at this point. They are mind-boggling.
Teaching, though, is hilarious. I love those students.

Date: 2013-10-02 08:14 pm (UTC)I would totally love to take you up on this offer sometime. I'm happy to hear all the opinions I can find.
And thanks for the luck. I have hope too. I got two apps in Monday (both to schools connected with your undergrad, if I remember correctly where you went) and I've got a few more to work on. And one of my Monday's I am *really* excited about.

Oh god. I am so so so so sorry to hear that. This whole thing must be incredibly frustrating and dis-spiriting. At least students are good at being awesome!
