1. I crosspost from my Dreamwidth account, but read both DW and Livejournal. Mostly lurking these days.

2. I used to be quite a prolific reccer, mostly in SG-1 fandom. I continue to read and keep recs lists, but these days, mostly in Sherlock/ACD or Merlin fandoms. Though, I stopped watching Merlin in S2, so my reading is oddly skewed. I also bookmark on AO3

3. I have a sock knitting problem. There. I said it.

4. I have lost over 20 pounds (~9 kg) in the last year and a half. This is largely due to getting healthy--I finally got good medical insurance, found a good doctor, and discovered I had undetectable amounts of certain vitamins in my system. Vitamins corrected, I initially gained weight as my body adjusted, then it started going away. I did begin watching my food intake, but largely to make sure I didn't eat hamburgers and stirfry one day and forget several meals the next (the first year sucks, ye verily it doth.)

5. I am getting married next year. I have -5 interest in planning a wedding, but my intended, bless him, is really excited to throw the party (all the family, he gets to make lots of food, people are happy!) So I am totally letting him do it. I liase with my Dad on this, as he is helping us with the wedding costs, so my entire roll so far has been to mediate between the two men who are actually planning my wedding.

6. Persuant to point 5. I have been dreading having to have a wedding. With the girly expectations and the traditions and the needs of everyone around the party but not actually the folks getting hitched? Uncomfortable shoes don't even rank in my list of fears. The fact that the men in my life are a) protecting me from the wedding-crazy people in the family, and b) doing all the work? Makes me feel, quite frankly, adored beyond words.

7. At this time, I have a sore throat, body weakness, and a temperature regulation problem. I hope my information bytes aren't contagious.

8. The upper floor of my house has no complete walls except for the closet. The bathroom even has strange cut-outs near the ceiling. I have no idea what the design intention of that was. I don't mind having the second floor be all one big space, though.

9. I have a phone interview with a really great potential job near my sweetie's job. This preliminary interview is on Tuesday. My reappointment meeting with my current department is on Monday. Gee, I wonder if that is going to be emotionally jarring?

10. I desperately miss living near the ocean. In New York I lived on a lake, and here I live near a river, but it's not the same.

11. I love E's grandmother. She is little, and Italian, and wonderful. She taught me to make ravioli, and we are going to cater the wedding with her version of lasagne (the fresh noodles are paper thin, and plentiful. They melt in your mouth, leading to the realization that you are eating shockingly light lasagne.) I will do anything she asks me to. She's just great.

12. My most recent vacation was spent camping in a 1965 Econoline van, owned by E's grandfather (#11's husband, above, but gone a long time now,) for the contracting business. E built surfboard racks, a folding sleeping platform, and storage compartments. I sewed a sleeping pad, mosquito netting and a privacy curtain in case we needed the doors open at night. Then we went to a great campground wedding, and surfed our way back home. T'was a very nice trip, and I learned how to drive 3 on the tree.

13. I listened to Phillip Pullman's The Ruby in the Smoke on audiobook the other day, which was a lovely way to pass some grading time (probably not good if you're marking essays, but for chemical structures, just fine.) What sticks in my mind was that Anton Lessar, the reader, was fantastic! Such a malleable voice that his read of the lead female character genuinely sounded feminine, to me, but not because the pitch was through the roof, it was the characterization. Just fantastic.

14. In the past decade, I have moved every two years (most recently across town, but right on time!) and have lived in Oregon, California, New York and Washington at various times.

15. Relatedly, I have a wanderlust problem too. I've lived in Denmark, traveled several times in Europe, been to South Africa and Kenya, visited Egypt, and spend several weeks in Thailand and Laos. If we meet, let me make you Lao curry--it's delicious.

16. Shockingly, I've never been South of the US border, and would love to go to Patagonia (or, really, anywhere in Central or South America.) I'd also really like to see New Zealand sometime soon, and Croatia.

17. I chopped my hair up to an A-line (short bob) yesterday. Today I'm sick. Before you ask, I was wearing a scarf! A wool one, even!

I can't think of more facts about me at this time, so I offer fic recs instead. Today, they are Sherlock Holmes canons. Tomorrow? Who knows.

18: fic trope: genderswap. Lestrade is and was always a woman. How that would change things, from pre-series through S2 BBC Sherlock. The Least of All Possible Mistakes by [personal profile] rageprufrock. The first time she meats Mycroft, she tasers him. I loved Pru's Lestrade. LOVE. Lestrade/Mycroft, and John&Sherlock.

19. fic trope: crossover with The Sentinel. Specifically, this is ACD-era Sherlock Holmes as Sentinel, and John Watson as Guide. It is magnificent enough for me to return to and reread often. This is ACD ostensibly, but I kept picturing BBC!Lestrade, Richie!Watson and one of the earlier film's Sherlock. I don't know. This story is compulsive. Observations on Sentinels and Guides in Victorian London by [profile] ryuuzakochou. Worksafe, long and plotty. Holmes/Watson.

20. Focus on secondary, female characters: Brilliant, brilliant Molly! Back of the envelope in a way. May be the smartest, awesomest, most intruiguing not-sexual attraction to the lead female character I've read in a long time. The Anatomist by [personal profile] rosa_acicularis. Work safe, gen, but not in any way a safe story. I would love if this were canon.

Congratulations! And I can't think of a better way to avoid wedding-related stress than by having someone else do all the planning. Well done!

And good luck on the interview.

Minxy! Hi! I have missed you (says the person who posts maybe once a month)

I'm sorry geography has been difficult, and I wish you luck on the attempt to remedy said difficulty! And having someone else plan your wedding sounds like a brilliant idea (having just watched my roommate go through the wedding thing - my other roommate and I decided we would definitely elope).

The camping surfing vacation sounds wonderful!
