I used to feel so called to this work, seriously. The loss of that feels like a great tragedy; I might have to fight to get it back.

Funding is crap, to be honest, but I could probably find a place, especially since the boss is willing to help me find a place to land. I'm thinking about where I want to go and whether I get have the C.V. to be competitive. It's less clear where to go at this point in my career than it ever has been before, but I think it will be fine.

The meeting today went better than I expected; very 'let's see how we can help each other.'

I may stay through the summer to finish things up and leave at a reasonable time to take another position. He is going to help me try to get an instructor position to partly pay my salary and partly because it's what I want to do. He may flake on that and just get me a TA-ship, of course, but an instructor position would also be cool. We discussed finishing a paper, possibly adding experiments to it, and which journals we could send it to for maximal prestigeiousity. I pointed out the whole 'no one else knows jack shit about the half a million dollar machine sitting upstairs and someone needs to be trained up right' situation.

So, I get more time to finish the work here and find a good new place to land, as well as possible teaching experience. Pretty decent.
