Add Brokeback Mountain to the list of films I really, really need to see, and Annie Proulx novella of the same name to the reading list. In the meantime, [livejournal.com profile] everlyn has gorgeous icons and screencaps. Bless her.

Also, interestingly, porn seems to be more popular than the average non-smutty fic at Area 52 (I have *no idea* why). In the first day Slow was posted as an NC-17 fic, the number of visits to my little page doubled, and it's since tripled. The feedback was also most flattering, and I shall take it as a sign that porn seriously helps my writing for some reason. *ponders & grins*

So, looking forward to Serenity (again), Brokeback Mountain and Harry Potter. Have I forgotten anything?

Brokeback Mountain is actually a short story -- only 30 pages long. It appears in the Proulx short story collection called "Close Range: Wyoming Stories."

Your friendly (Internet) neighborhood librarian. ;)

Thanks! May add bookstore to the list of errands to run today. I've read Proulx before, pretty sure it was the Shipping News, but it's been a while. Brokeback Mountain sounds amazing. Jake Gyllenhall and Heath Ledger? Mmmm.

I downloaded the trailer and it looks really interesting. Showed it to one of my "real life" friends who's also a slasher, and she wants to see it too. The only thing is I figure it won't get a big release, it'll only be in "art house" theaters. There's a couple not too very far from me, but it's still at least an hour's drive. But I think this one is worth the extra effort. ;)

I'm about to move outside the city and I think I'll be in the same situation. Get this, though, I'm pretty sure I've read half of these stories before, but they were (a few of them) creepy enough that I set the book down before reading Brokeback Mountain. *rolls eyes at self*

I love her writing, but she writes desperation brilliantly to the point where I feel it a bit too much sometimes. I'm set now, though. Heading straight for the coda at the end, and skipping The Half Skinned Steer. That one gave me nightmares, seriously.

I was doing some research to see if it appeared in other anthologies, and it does. In fact, one of them is in the public library where I work. I bought the darn book, but didn't realize this story was in it. *facepalm*

I would grin at you, but I read the book last night and I'm heartbroken now. Make sure you have a hug nearby waiting for you when you read.
