The 27 mile race went well. For me as an individual, at least; some weird coaching choices made for an odd team race. We had a good time, though, and racing hard as HELL for the last month means that I am really not that sore today, compared to earlier long races when I worked that hard.

What I am, is cut the fuck up. Due to some wax from the gunnel getting on the paddle I used for the first few hours of the race (short explanation of that: we have to haul ourselves in and out of the canoe from the ocean during substitutions, so we wax the sides of the boat to aid us in gripping them when we're all wet and stuff, and if you're waiting for a race to start and resting your paddle across your lap, you can transfer the wax if it's too soft,) anyway, due to wax or some shit on the handle of the paddle, I have *BLISTERS*.

I count 15 blisters on my hands. At least four have opened already, three are bothering me now as I type, and I may be off by (give or take) 4 blisters in total count if some of them are just sore spots or I forgot about other ones.

OW.

And now the season is over, thank goodness. I had a good racing season. I am looking forward to relaxing a little bit. Gonna have to stop eating quite so much, but one makes sacrifices.

OW. FUCK, OW.

Swam in blue, blue, ocean water, played with my teammates, drank beer, ate plate lunch, hugged teammates warmly and sang along with my music on the drive home. Good times. Good season. I salute you, season!

*passes out*

Ouch! :-(

You need a harem boy to peel your grapes for you until your hands heal. *nod, nod*

Owww owww owww.

*is very very familiar with hand blisters*

If you can get hold of some at short notice, I've found that either Climb On Bar or Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream are great for healing shredded hands.

Oh, seriously? I WILL FIND SOME, BY THE STARS.

How's your ankle?

Oh, seriously?

Seriously seriously. IMHE, either of them will really accelerate the healing without softening your hands up too much.

The ankle's recovering nicely, but not back to 100% yet; it's fine in everyday life, but I still can't jump on it with full weight, for example.

So I am doing an awful lot of sit-starts, not to mention the roof-climbing. By the time I can jump off walls again, my fingers are going to be made of steel ...

I've just looked briefly online to see if there's a store here that advertizes Climb On, but I don't see one jumping out at me. I'll check some local climbing shops and see if I can find something good.

You aren't tired of the roof climbing yet, are you? Because it sounds so cool.

And I'm fairly sure having fingers of steel grants you automatic entry into the League of Superheroes. Or something.

You can get the Elizabeth Arden stuff at any department store, assuming you can brace yourself to go to the EA counter (which is hard for those of us of a non-girly disposition -- but it's been used on sledgedogs' paws in the Arctic, dammit!).

You aren't tired of the roof climbing yet, are you?

Not yet, and I can now do the first bit of the move round the edge, w00t. Though the second bit may have to wait until I can pivot on the ankle again. Ironically, I can do the roof bit fine now; it's getting round the edge onto the vertical wall that's difficult.

Congratulations on finishing the race and a good season. I'm sitting here in awe, really, because, yeah, 27 miles. : )

No real advice for the blisters except to keep them covered and clean if they're open to reduce the chance of infection.

Damn, that's gotta hurt. Hope you heal fast!

I soaked them in really blue saltwater. That seemed to help. Although I also discovered some other raw places from my clothes chafing at the same time. At least now I know.

I am a very quick healer, as it happens!

Yeah, 27 miles was a long way, I'm not going to hedge about that. Wow. Makes for some really luscious sleeping, though.

Own bed is a good thing. :)

And it sounds marvelous to be on the water no matter what.

I've been slathering lotion on all day, and it really helped until I made dinner and did dishes (ow.)

But, taking stock, only two are in bad shape now. Healing up, just trucking right on.

It was a grand season of sports, it really was. I love living by the ocean.

They are healing up admirably quickly. I do wish you were here to help me find decent grease so I wouldn't have to reapply insufficient moisturizer every half hour. It's enough, though.

I am *beat*. I'm heading to sleep now, though I know you were watching fashion stuffs and it would be cool to see what you thought. I'll read up another time.

i didn't have anything interesting to say, i promise.

i love l'occitane creams for healing up sunburns - don't know how they would do on shredded hands :-( but they sure don't need reapplied every half hour. they make a steel-like barrier, for sure. i love the hand cream. 25% shea butter, i think, which is like 25% iron. tough stuff!

i'm so jealous of your sleeping. i'm sure i'd sleep as well as you if i rowed 27 miles, but i know i won't.

I love sleeping. If y'all were as impressed with my long-distance sleeping skills as paddling skills, I'd post about those too. But they do kind of go hand in hand.

I used my Eucerin like crazy last night and this morning, and the small blisters are back to being normal skin color, so I'm doing well. Not that I shouldn't go get good cream for work, but I wear gloves and wash my hands constantly, so I tent to just load up on the crap I can get for free.

I think anything you could say would be better than dealing with my day today.

27 miles is incredible! Hell, I don't even like to *drive* 27 miles where I live. ;)

Hope your blisters are doing better! *winces*

Heh, I don't like driving 27 miles either, and I suspect that driving 27 miles of ocean would be less effective than boating anyway. *g*

Blisters are doing lots better, thank you.
