minxy: Teal'c raises a hand to say "hey". (Default)

[Reccer's note: I'm ridiculously behind updating these lists. If you're up for a little sleuthing, you'll find new recs under this tag and all tossed together.]

Because it was getting crowded in the Alternative pairings list, and really, gen doesn't belong there, being family friendly more often than not. That said, though, some of the most moving work and briliant writing needs no smut to sell it. The action, the emotion, the friendship and the moments are all here.

I give you... (now in it's very own list!)...

General Fic (SG-1):

Wierdly, oddly, gen smut. Or rather, Jack, interrupted from [livejournal.com profile] splash_the_cat.

Eos = [livejournal.com profile] ducks_in_a_row posted J & D friendship circa S3, with marvelous team dynamics: Free Fall (part 1, with part 2 here)

Just found this really amazing thing from [livejournal.com profile] katie_m: Combinations, to [livejournal.com profile] troyswann's challenge of name based prompts. 10 snippets, amazing relationships between the characters. Just amazing, complex, subtle, individual, relevant.... amazing. PG, gen.

Two Walter stories! (sorta):

When Your Job Description is a Lie, by [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn, derivative of [livejournal.com profile] ltlj's Retrograde universe (actually, inspired by this comment fic), all of which is wonderful. THIS, though, this has Walter and TEAL'C. Bonding. Seriously. It's marvelous.

Also fantastic are the results of this Five Things meme going around. [livejournal.com profile] synecdochic got the prompt of Five Ways Walter Saved the Galaxy (and No One Noticed) and the first one alone could So Happen. The rest of her Five Thingses are also quite extraordinary, as you may imagine.

New fic, by a new author: [livejournal.com profile] ballroomblitz wrote Season 1 (!) Jack, with Sam and Daniel and Kowalski, with all those early relationships just spot on. Gen. Dreaming and the Geneva Convention. Feeeeeed the new author.

from danvers, They Won't Fade Away. Team (all of 'em), leathers, Vala saves the day, the adventure goes on. PG.

[livejournal.com profile] princessofg: Not the SG-1 Series/Season 10 Finale's Closing Scene #1. Slash, but worksafe.

Also for O, from [livejournal.com profile] cofax7: This Could Become a Habit, gen team-fic and road trip fic.

Siler, of all people. Great perspective on the team. Ordinary Tasks. Gen by [livejournal.com profile] stargazercmc.

jennghis kahn's ([livejournal.com profile] surrealphantast's) Ghost in the Machine. One helluva ride through a mission gone wrong for the original team in which they are all skilled, unique, respecting each other and working together so seamlessly that it is hard to imagine how they could have done it if all four hadn't been there. Really good yarn. Gen, long.

[livejournal.com profile] cofax7's newest contribution to the This Is Not Wartime series: The first time Cam met John Sheppard. That's nothing but goodness, right there. Also gen, and PG-13 or something.

Sid ([livejournal.com profile] sidlj) brings da surreal with early season Daniel's dreamscape. I'd call this gen or canon relationship het, but seriously surreal dreams from a guy in serious internal conflict cross lots of boundaries. Jack is a fantastic reassuring presence. Nightscape, rated R.

Vehemently's (that's [livejournal.com profile] vee_fic, also) marvelously titled Eurydice Turns Left. Seriously, you should read it just for the title, but if not that, then read for amazing team adventure, extraordinary characters and some brilliant OCs, and by that you should understand that they are not only interesting, but some of them are really smart experts in their fields and she writes them all, military, scientist, alien, really well. Sheppard is marvelous, the planet fascinating, the actions and reactions of each character marvelous. SGA, gen, PG-13, S2.

[livejournal.com profile] thassalia's really amazing Cameron voice and character: Blue Jeans and Beer, and Zebulan Pike was Here (for me yay!). S10 goodness, all about the Cameron. All about Cameron going back to his old stomping grounds and faith and humilty and *handflaps* Gen, fantabulous.

[livejournal.com profile] synecdochic once again posts a gem of a thing as she struggles with gigantic epics that Will Not Cooperate. Metaphor is Daniel and Cameron, connecting and disconnecting. S9, G. What a formidable team they could be.

From [livejournal.com profile] synecdochic, heterolifemates, ahoy: Not With A Bang is sweet and marvelous. G rated. Jack and Daniel, but not like that.

Great Daniel in absentia gen fic about trying to replace him during S6 (Numerology by Random, which I loved for each failure teaching Jack something of what exactly Daniel had been to him, even as he refuses to grieve outright. It's amazing stubborn, smart, hurting Jack. Gen, PGish? S6.

[livejournal.com profile] jenlev committed silliness: Life-Sized for the Dough-Boy. I am without words. SG-1.

Speak the Living by [livejournal.com profile] paian for [livejournal.com profile] hsapiens. Gorgeous and heartbreaking traditions, both new and old, Teal'c adapting and coming to terms with his past and present and future, with loss and betrayal and orders and the price of freedom and the weight of surviving. Elegant friendships with Sam and others, incredible backstory and missing scenes from Heroes make the canon moments even more heartbreaking and meaningful. Wonderous. Gen, PG, spoilers for S7 through Heroes, some foreshadowing of canon Jaffa culture mentioned in later seasons, but not plot or character related.

I just read [livejournal.com profile] green_grrl's sweet little S9 friendshippy thing between Jack and Daniel which was an awesome little moment in which Jack cannot deal with politics and Daniel becomes negotiator. Very nice. (Im)patient, Gen, G, S9ish.

Vanquishing Demons by [livejournal.com profile] aurora_novarum for [livejournal.com profile] lovellama. Longer fic luxuriously allowing Teal'c's pacing and thoughts to come through, particularly after a crisis of faith that went largely unacknowledged in the early seasons. Team dynamic, as well as the notion of how exactly one would comfort Teal'c are very well done. Also? Bra'tac. And Rak'nor, who is my Stargate boyfriend. Gen, PG-13, S4. Part II, part III.

Molasses, by [livejournal.com profile] sugargroupie (Shunda) for [livejournal.com profile] jalabert. Cam and Teal'c, isolated and seeking each other and surviving mind games and being stripped down to their core beings; plus as the tension ramps and you get worried, you by the way also get the plot and the story, but the intensity is great enough that you do not care until you get confirmation that everyone's okay. Awesome. Gen, G, S9.

[livejournal.com profile] janedavitt wrote a smidge of a moment between Sheppard and Jack in the helicopter at the beginning of Rising, possible passing of a torch we never saw with Mitchell, and a nice beginning to all sorts of possiblities for two men of similar priorities in the service. Seven Minutes Out, John & Jack, PG-13-ish, gen.

[livejournal.com profile] surrealphantast has written a beautiful Sam fic Buffalo in which there is engineering and Sam and a road trip by herself.

Oh. Stranded off-world and separated from her team. West by [livejournal.com profile] minnow1212. It's elegant, what she will willingly lose and what she holds on to.

Moebius-fic, wonderful and confusing and displaced: Glimmers, by [livejournal.com profile] greensilver.

Ouch. Tallulah Rasa's Blame it on the Sun, post-Heroes.

Sal =[livejournal.com profile] troyswann wrote me A Snippet Called A Deeply Angsty Snippet for Minxy In Which Someone Gets Something. She stole my angsty! Stoled it! And Teal'c gets the last laugh. Gen, PG.

danvers =[livejournal.com profile] sdraevn has been at request fic, and I keep thinking of the Sam one, in which Jack and Daniel go native and Sam has to turn her back. Heh. I love Sam sometimes, because that is EXACTLY how it would go down. Other ficlets may not be gen.

A short comment fic from [livejournal.com profile] leadensky (who does Not Write SG-1), Operation Beach and Burgers, SG-1, S9, gen, G.

[livejournal.com profile] jenlev wrote a wonderfully wierd piece (it competes with some of the SGA-type crack although no animals were harmed in the making of) entitled What SG-1 Found on PST-489.. Really defies categorization, but no pairings and PG-13?

[livejournal.com profile] nandamai's team & family post-Threads is cathartic and lovely: Anything. Sam, gen, SG-1, Season 9.

[livejournal.com profile] katie_m's Jack adapting to Washington: Tourist Attractions (SG-1, S9, gen, G)

A Circle of One's Own by Jonah in the Whale, all about Colonel O'Neill's insecurity about standardized testing, but it's really worth it for Teal'c's perplexity and Daniel's objections to them at all. Plus it's just witty and in character. Team, earlier season, gen, but Jack and Daniel's friendship is prominent.

[livejournal.com profile] surrealphantast wrote a great team-night poker game in which Sam is spectacularly bad at bluffing titled Jello Shots (gen, team, G, very witty) that [livejournal.com profile] katiedammit has prequeled with a Sam and Janet UST-ish (it's almost gen. Very nearly. Still G rated, work safe! Fun for the whole family!) ficlet about what had happened to the rest of the Jello Shots: Never Bluff a Sucker. Which features Sam still being unable to lie, which is so entertaining, and Janet labeling herself 'jailbait', which, frankly, sounds a lot like something I would say. Early seasons, team, gen.

There are two notably grand fics over at [livejournal.com profile] tealc_fic in response to the challenge prompt "escalade", the first by [livejournal.com profile] jalabert is Frustration and may be the first genuinely angry Teal'c fic I've read and it's well done. Also we have [livejournal.com profile] ldyanne's Scaling the Wall, which works up to the betrayal in Children of the Gods with impressive momentum. Both gen. PG for content? Dunno.

A Sudden Clearing (the Past Is Future remix) by [livejournal.com profile] nandamai of [livejournal.com profile] tripoli8's If the Sycamore, Swaying. Amazing story centering on Teal'c, and Sam and Daniel and Jack, but all revolving around Teal'c. S9, heartbreaking.

[livejournal.com profile] minnow1212 a little while back wrote an SGA and SG-1 snippet each, the SGA one being more or less about bad p0rn and the SG-1 snippet about an alien planet and how they record the visits of other worlds. Funny and lovely, by turns; both gen/teen.

Also [livejournal.com profile] cofax7 wrote a brilliant team first impressions fic. The women (plural because I am so, so biased) are there even when they aren't, and that's a pretty strong team right there. Turnover, early season 1, gen/teen.

And [livejournal.com profile] sdraevn, popularly known as Danvers on the street, mused about the spirituality of SG-1 and the SGA gang, and wrote this: When Daniel Jackson Met God. Oh, but the man could out-stubborn God, couldn't he? Cool discussions in the post and comments.

This is bound to be one of my favorite Jack character studies ever, and it's Jack and Daniel friendship oriented, so that's a plus, and Jack's protectiveness arc is so nicely drawn and I just hadn't thought of it that way, it's really nice. Elementariness. It's [livejournal.com profile] kellifer_fic's work.

[livejournal.com profile] katie_m wrote a story about Martouf, and it has so many possibilities in such a short space: Hall of Mirrors.

Teal'c: [livejournal.com profile] psychofilly's Untitled Sam and Teal'c Have a Bonding Moment and Hammond has to Poke Jack in the Ribs to Make Him Behave fic. This is why you should name your own fics, people. But seriously, I really thought I'd recc'd this before...

Teal'c again: [livejournal.com profile] minnow1212's Something Sweet, which is gen, marvelously layered and just really fine.

[livejournal.com profile] thassalia wrote [livejournal.com profile] cofax7 (it's all so interconnected, innit?) a post-ep for the Scourge. Teeeeeeamy goodness. And I love that this is going on because a drawback of T.V. is that you don't always have the luxury to resolve everything as much as ought to be done, and this is great. I got involved in a conversation with Thea about whether Teal'c drinks (I thought the Jaffa as a group tended to drink wine but Rydra remembers an episode where he actually stated that he doesn't drink alcohol. And I thought it was a fanon thing. Shows what I know)

You Can't Judge a Man by the Cut of His Cloth by Tallulah Rasa. On oceana's rec. eta: BWAHAHAHAHA! And you thought SGA was a cracktastic fandom! This is right up there with the Rodneysaur in my world. *sniggers*

72000, by claira on oceana's rec. Sam is marvelously strong in this, even if, like many after trauma, she has no idea how to direct it. I love the people she actually lets in and says what she means to, I love the flashbacks to Jolinar; her judgements, her kindnesses and under it all, Sam's panic and fury. This is beautiful broken Sam. This is weakness without being weak. There should have been more fallout from that trauma anyway. [also: salttequilalime which is Sam backstory, and aching. Synonymous is Jack and Sam, a little abyss aftermath and so in character.]

[livejournal.com profile] eve11 wrote one of my very favorite fics in the [livejournal.com profile] sg1teamficathon, and THEN went all noble and stuff and stepped up to pinch-hit when another author didn't come through. Even though this is past deadline, it's marvelous teamy goodness featuring our heroes in prison and doing their respective things, and it shines the brighter for being posted on it's own. Folsom Prison Blues. SG-1 gen.

Another fantastic gen piece: Rodney and Sam, friendshippy, crossover SG-1/SGA and a birthday present for [livejournal.com profile] saffronhouse. Cool. I love when they can talk science and it's a part of the characters, and when their personalities shine through as they make connections and get distracted from snarking at eat other. Free 'Verse, by [livejournal.com profile] dashamte.

Somnambulist by C. L. Kamnikar is a fantastic gen (author claims a leaning towards Sam/Daniel) piece about Daniel searching for coffee in the wee hours of the morning. Oh, the insanity.

[livejournal.com profile] cofax7 has tagged Ethon with Debrief in a glorious moment we should see on T.V. I mean that. Because mistakes were made. And oh, I hope her characterization of Mitchell is the one we will continue to see.

Daniel. Always running. The Proximity of Beads from [livejournal.com profile] jenlev. Beautiful images abound: Daniel's recurring dream of glaciers, his comfort under the mountain, his sense of dislocation and alienation from Earth, his understanding that the team is unraveling. Lovely.

Footnotes by Tallulah Rasa is grand fuckedup!team future fic. I think it's not het or slash but your glasses shades might tint things for you.

And the World Ended Again is a sweet Heroes tag for Daniel from [livejournal.com profile] laytoncolt. And that seems appropriate to rec with all the Ripple Effect fics going 'round.

The lovely [livejournal.com profile] thassalia once again takes Mitchell into the realm of character and discovery and bafflement, and it's fantastic. Kraftwork.

A hysterical SG-1 fairy tale: The Tale of Sleeping Brawny and the Galactic Adventurer Who Woke Him Up by [livejournal.com profile] ana_grrl.

Plus, I love [livejournal.com profile] katie_m. Love her. She has so many genuinely unique ideas in this fandom: Workplace Legends.

[livejournal.com profile] thassalia wrote a fantastic Cameron & Daniel trying to figure each other out, piece, which is oddly not being addressed much, and, let's face it, Daniel is not really making a good impression, what with being all disappointed and irritated all the time and they have that 'Jackson, my friends call me Cameron' thing going on... and this is great: Who Stole My Cheese and Put It Underwater for the Fish?

Veil by [livejournal.com profile] eve11 in the [livejournal.com profile] sg1teamficathon. Has a magnificent alien culture, rich and deep and affecting. Watch Teal'c interact with Sam and help her, only to be unable to help himself. Jack feel helpless in the inability to yell or talk or touch and yet be the one who instinctively understands... then there is eve's extremely competant use of mathmatics as a centering chant for Sam, and Daniel's completely in character reactions to everyone.

[livejournal.com profile] nandamai = Nanda wrote for [livejournal.com profile] cofax7 in the [livejournal.com profile] teamficathon a wonderful team piece with really nice Teal'c presence and dialog. Early season 1 SG-1 team, gen. Wavelength or, How I Stopped Worrying and Learned To Love My Job.

[livejournal.com profile] poohmusings wrote an absolutely hysterical piece titled WWZD? for [livejournal.com profile] splash_the_cat. It's just, I mean, *collapses into giggles at the mere THOUGHT of that fic*. Though I do have a sort of whacked sense of humor... but hey, clearly I'm not the only one.

[livejournal.com profile] katie_m wrote an extraordinary Sam POV piece for [livejournal.com profile] nandamai called A Heavenward Striving. I don't want to say too much about it except that I really wish there had been an episode like this, and really, I thought Sam's voice, and all the character's choices were fantastic.

An insta-birthday fic for [livejournal.com profile] cofax7 prompted by a single word gives us the lovely team snippet from [livejournal.com profile] elishavah. Season 5ish, team,Teal'c is a wonderful presence.

And speaking of Teal'c, the unusual form fic that has spawned far too many plot bunnies in my head: 21 Things We Never Knew About Teal'c by [livejournal.com profile] nakedtoes. *sigh*

This is hysterical. It's amazing what one canon sentence can do: Acid Worms which is Teal'c's take on the circumstances surrounding the drink that made Carter take off her... on P3X-595.

Retrograde by [livejournal.com profile] ltlj. It's technically a crossover AU with Atlantis, but its characters are lifted out of the very best of the onscreen moments and each are drawn deftly, with charm and skill and competance and respect for each other, even when trust is painfully screamingly impossible. Really excellent adventure.

Yay for anything from [livejournal.com profile] ducks_in_a_row! Gen, Shifu + the S8/9 hiatus. Oma goes off to fight Anubis, after all, so what happens to the others who need her? Oh, but the characterization is beautiful. Sometimes I think Gen is harder to read because you start wondering why the episodes can't be this good. Sins Of The Father.

A rather marvelous Teal'c & Sam friendship moment circa season 2. Excellent (and rare) Teal'c voice and POV, really good characterization of the whole team. Teal'c is underluvd. It's All About Technique by [livejournal.com profile] moonshayde.

With The Dying by Dira Daniel & Teal'c friendship fic, only it's post Moebius 2 and it's AU Teal'c and Daniel is just that amazing. Warning: may cause heartbreak.

Comparing Scars by [livejournal.com profile] cofax7 This is a brilliant Sam & Vala gen moment in S9. You thought they just passed each other in the hall and went 'huh?'. No, neither did I, and neither did the brilliant Cofax.

You Can't Always Get What You Want and sequel But If You Try Sometimes by [livejournal.com profile] betacandy a fantastic fabulous Moebius tag, with a brilliant drunken dream of Peter Pan by Sam, and more fabulousness in the sequel. I mean, it's just kewl, with the interpersonal relationships and characterizations of the AU team and the battered!Daniel... and I'm partial to Moebius tags. Gen, team.

And brilliantly unusual perspectives, great voices and kick-ASS insights from [livejournal.com profile] katie_m: Almost A Statesman Teal'c, gen, and Snakeskin from the perspective of blended hosts/symbiotes. Just so amazing, both of them.

The Midas Syndrome by Rheanna Spelling mistakes can bug me, but if you get past a few early punctuation typos here, it's a rollicking good adventure. Gen.

The Breadbox Editions, by Nialla Brilliant snarky take on S7 an S8 (so far) episodes. Equal opportunity amusement, so, um, gen, I guess.

You are most thoroughly welcome. Erm, sorry for swearing a bit in the writeups. *g* But see, I liked them a LOT.

And I'm still just tickled that we have the same name. Probably lack of sleep making me slap happy, though.

Oh, you're a Kate? I considered trying to switch over when I went to college, since I think Kate sounds a bit older than Katie, but I just... couldn't do it. My parents call me that sometimes, though, and my oldest friend from home. I think they just got tired of the extra syllable.

From: [identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_minxy_/
lol. I switched when we moved during high school, but it wasn't intentional exactly, people just did it and I didn't object. I'll still answer to Katie too, but now I'm nostalgic about anyone who calls me Katie. Feels like family, because now only my family and my oldest friend from home call me that. *g* (seriously).

Although, every sweetheart I've ever had at some point starts calling me Katie, I think as a way to use an endearment in public. *thinky*

My newly official bf just did that for the first time a few weeks ago. Hee!

I have a lost Kate icon here somewhere.... *searches* Aha!
