synecdochic has posted another fic in her accidental eurydiceverse, and it's a wonderful, complex, Jack/Daniel first time. Really extraordinary. Throwing Pebbles Up The Mountain. Jack voice, first person, slash, NC-17. I think what I might like most are the hints that there is so much more, to this comment, to that story, to the background, to the reason. Gives you Smart!Jack and still Canon!Jack.

janedavitt kicks off what I hope (I think jenlev and rydra_wong will support me here) will be many, many more Company of Thieves tags with 911, Jack and Daniel, PG, maybe G.

Jack/Daniel portion of our reccing evening: green_grrl's pre-slash or friendship War Is Hell. Everyone always assumed Jack would be a bear about getting injured, but this is Daniel dealing with him in a very matter of fact way in S4. S3? S4. When was the Devil You Know? That was the S3 cliffhanger double, right? This is a tag for that. Worksafe. Nice progression of attitudes with prolonged infirmary stay.

Comfort kink: Marks by sffan (at Area52) which is nice Jack/Daniel being not vanilla. NC-17.

greensilver posted an EXTRA MARVELOUS Jack/Daniel love fest for Destina's birthday in destina_fic. It's gorgeous, it's thoughtful, it's sweet and it's amazing and I shall be noting this under 'fics to be read when in need of happiness'. Amabar, Amor, Amabor with Daniel being linguisty and Jack being wonderful. PGish. Look at how she used the numbers! Is that not awesome?

blue_adagio (new writer to me, hello!) wrote Collateral Damage for dustandroses, which is awesome betrayal. D/s, Absolute Power missing scenes. NC-17.

merryish (for destina, lucky girl) wrote a fantastic, long, plotty, classic SG-1: Downtime. There are a lot of things that could be said about this piece, but the bit that sticks out for me is the connection between Jack and Daniel despite this being G rated and possible to read as friendshippy (there's something wrong with my grammar, there,), and the fact that Jack is just WONDERFUL. Smart and in charge and charming and capable. Stands out like Amabor (greensilver), for Jack being marvelous. G, Jack and Daniel, or Jack/Daniel.

The psychologically complex, emotionally intimate and character driven I, In This Darkness, by destina for paian. Long piece that pulls no punches drawing the outlines of dangerous, capable, loving guys in an established relationship, helping each other through decisions that they might have made differently. It's not a pat resolution, which makes it all the more marvelous. It's also one of those lyrical titles that I expect from this ficathon. *glee*

tripoli8's Jack/Daniel if they really could take each other's hurts for them, and how it would rip them apart. AU, of a sort*. On the Mortal Side, NC-17, and language!kink, but none of that really conveys how beautifully sad all their intentions are.

janedavitt wrote awkward sex, which is one of my favorite things and comes in a few varieties, to my mind, but in this case she wrote awkward first-time sex, where Jack and Daniel don't know how to communicate about it or make it better or adapt, and suffer from having denied themselves each other so long that their expectations are higher than the mountain. Exquisite disaster ensues. But my kink about awkward sex being real and messy and truthful sort of hinges on my bulletproof kink that overcoming awkward sex to have better sex is even hotter. NC-17, obviously, Jack/Daniel, S4ish, but not particularly. The Real Deal.

wishfulaces gives agentotter a pretty Jack and Daniel friendship ficlet in ottercrossing. S8, great voices and complex psychology. Only those two, seriously. Old married love even when it's platonic.

A separation, and too close to home. Hurts to read, but worth it. No warnings. synecdochic, Jack/Daniel, PG-13, The Fourth Kingdom.

Bad Timing (NC-17) by theemdash. S9 and previous. Good yummy angst, with manipulative!Daniel. Liked the idea that they would each take what they could get if they couldn't have each other, too.

I also want to rec a little fic called Complicated, by raqs (Dith), which is an unusual one, and so I sympathize with any issues she may have had placing it in a category. This is Jack in deep deep denial, to my read. This is Daniel and Jack, with potential. A potential that Daniel recognises, and even though Jack is not phased by bodies, by trauma, by reactions or needs or trust or safety or any of that, he knows where the lines drawn by society are, and he knows that he can't cross them. It's kind of heart breaking, how deep it runs. It feels so true, how you need the other person's response to feel sure of your own advances. I want them to have everything, but I find it achingly sweet how gentle what they do have is. Her Jack is smart and adaptable and devoted and wonderful. Daniel is hurt and strong and independent and openminded and curious. I rec this so hard. Rated R.

sherrold wrote for raqs in the Jack/Daniel ficathon (hooray for greensilver!) a story with about three difference concurrent conversations all going on at the same time, all with a great sort of manly not-talking: A Man's Life. NC-17.

sidlj has an ongoing theme in which Jack and Daniel have varying degrees of a D/s relationship, and she reconciles switching them in this quantum mirror with a personal twist fic. When Worlds Collide, NC-17 or R. There's some nice psychological complexity tied up in their roles which is nicely played. No season in particular.

There's also the wonderful last mission for Jack as head of SG-1: A Jack Story by SEF. Worth revisiting, it's a worthy send off. S7/8 transition. PG rated.

ducks_in_a_row posted a J/D fic, which if not of a riotous pace, is still logical (close enough for science fiction), thoughtful, creepy and tender. I like that these two came together because they were just too tired not too, but that there was still a lot of concern about the other person no matter what. Gods and Monsters. NC-17.

princessofg continues in her marvelously conflicted Something Guys Do 'verse with Something Else Guys Do, in which Daniel continues learning the rules of the game, and breaking them. Go Daniel. NC-17. Stands alone.

janedavitt let's the boys show, not tell, despite having to do it over the phone, with arguing, and no where to go from revelation: Cold Calling. R, season 7, Jack & Daniel.

First time, standing apart. Walking the line of sex buddies and something more emotional, with an exit clause. Plus points for sneaky and effective use of tense changes: Something Guys Do from princessofg, who continues to provide wonderfully fresh, new Jack/Daniel. Hard R. S4ish.

Brighid (brighidestone)'s Syntactical, NC-17, comfortable old married love from S8. Jack/Daniel, knock you out linguisty stuff, and cookies.

sori1773's The Company You Keep. Jack & Daniel, and a lovely moment of understanding, when Daniel does something Jack has always done but couldn't explain. When Daniel brings his mind to writing to Jack, and what he would say, and why, and what comes of it. Beautiful. NC-17, and Jack/Daniel, but it takes second seat to the friendship.

Updates from Pepe's Place include some extraordinary challenge responses in short story form from Pepe (April Fool, NC-17) and Berty (April Showers challenge) called Raindance. Both Jack/Daniel, NC-17.

I just read green_grrl's sweet little S9 friendshippy thing between Jack and Daniel which was an awesome little moment in which Jack cannot deal with politics and Daniel becomes negotiator. Very nice. (Im)patient, Gen, G, S9ish.

Ten Years Gone by catspaw_sgjd, and Part II. Anyway, I must point to a really extraordinary pairing. It's Jack/Daniel, but clone!Jack, and before you start picturing the teenager kid from the episode--no. Think young 27ish MacGyver RDA (without the mullet). Yeah, hunky, breezy, young Jack, who sees Daniel (slight future-ish, so 40s?) in a library in a suit.

theemdash just recc'd this on stargateficrec and I got to agree with her that it's a gud 'un-- um, two. Whatever: Plus Ca Change & Plus C'est La Meme Chose by livengoo at Area52. Jack/Daniel, starting with friends-with-benefits and working from there.

Jack/Daniel, Find the River by kres. Have you read this yet? It's a wash of beautiful words and then you get to the end and find yourself saying 'my God...' with all of this awe. Find the River is posted in its entirety now, completing the whole triptych, and it's just gorgeous like a hot shower with incredible prose.

The sixth and penultimate installment of The Games Men Play, Splashdown, has been posted by dustandroses (links to earlier parts in the post for this one). This is really grand Jack/Daniel smut in the sense of the zing for each section really standing out, with development and realizations and intimacy in each section, every time very well done, a new revelation and really a great sense of a new relationship between old friends. Splashdown hooks me in particular by writing one of my very favorite things: awkward sex. In this case, awkward sex really exemplifying how close the two people involved are, how well they handle it, how hard they laugh, how they deal, and the realizations that trump physical need for intimacy. It's fantastic bad!sex. Really.

First off, it's April Fool's Day, and the rather incredibly funny Anais (notmonkey) has written a Jack/Daniel fic in honor of this most austere day. April Fool. PG-13 for snark as only Anais can serve it up.

princessofg is a name that just exploded out there as she's new to the fandom but jumping in and writing as she watches the first few seasons. I b'lieve she's somewhere between S3 and 4 now, and as we all know, this is PRIME JACK/DANIEL SLASHING TIME. And she's writing it. NEW early season Jack and Daniel. I point you, to begin with, at this lovely standalone first time fic: Avalanche. NC-17, SG-1.

Jack/Daniel, mmmmm: janedavitt wrote Carved. It's lovely. Sexy and forbidden and utterly normal.

Daniel being territorial and messy and into sending long distance naughty pictures and Jack so lost without Daniel to guide him, and so wrapped in the familiar, passionate need that he'll allow himself to be loved, and to relax into it, and be home. paian has written a wonderful S9 married, long distance, love of the 'if you love someone, set them free and then call them up to have hot and sweet phone sex' variety. One of the most amazing things about paian's writing, I do b'lieve, is her use of really amazing details to tell you who people are in their strengths and weaknesses in amazing, intimate, I-know-you-so-well-even-your-wierdnesses-are-normal-now ways. It's gorgeous how she does it. The Pond Pry Scene (Encrypted Phones #2).

More paian: she has written Slipping, for taselby. I adore this. It is incredibly erotic. I may be speechless about this one, I don't know how to tell you to go read it. You just should.

thegrrrl2002's Dare to Breathe.

If A Tree Falls by thegrrrl2002, whom I adore unconditionally, but I don't always go back and reread her SG-1 stuff because... it makes me sad sometimes that's she doesn't write them anymore. This is lovely, though. Beautiful few days of downtime and just Jack and Daniel and communicating and not... beautiful quiet moments. And with teh sexy, natch.

The theme of showing off, being proud of Daniel reminded me of reading Pepe's newest fic last night in the wee hours called Kissing Frogs. Dancing In the Dark fans will appreciate the mirror of Jack-come-lately to bisexuality and Daniel being the more secure one, in a way, as well as the notion of just never having noticed before, but now... rawr. Pepe has a love for first time fics, and this does not disappoint. It's gentle and sweet in its discovery.

So, who was it who was afeared that everyone was jumping the Jack/Daniel fic writing ship? Oh, right, it was destina who has decided to solve her own problem by posting a S7 (and AU thereafter) Jack/Daniel NC-17 beauty called Descant.

The Night Beyond the Glass by paian, another of the Lost City fics that so hijacked her writerly brain, but longer, with a lot of exploration of series and character pasts. Posted as part of WIP amnesty, because it didn't go where she wanted or expected it to, but even so, it's just gorgeous.

Sixteen Hundred Miles by theemdash. Jack/Daniel, long distance and fallible and together and Not Talking. A stand alone second installment of a three part series. Thanks to paian for the pointer and making me all *thinky* about the deftness of writers who let the boys be tacturn but still manage to communicate what they would like to say to the reader.

But all that talking about small moments and movements being the most important, sexiest, most telling things ever? wraith816 wrote me Jack and Daniel, hands touching, mouths apart..

Driftwood by Dale Edmonds. Tag for 'the light', but not an easy fix. Jack/Daniel, NC-17.

Dreams and Fables by thewildmole. Post Crystal Skull, and nicely devoid of whimpering. Also? Totally believable guy Not-Discussion.

And the gorgeous, gorgeous, stands on it's own but even BETTER with the episodic landmarks, Out of Season by eliade. Things have been noted about the jolting resonance of Shades of Grey following so hard upon 100 Days, but never so eloquantly or seemlessly with Jack and Daniel coming together (also with really good Not-Discussion.) Really highly recommended.

Mary Jane (yes, of Willemakee, which will break your heart in an 'oh dear God' kind of way if it hasn't already) has tragically only written one other SG-1 fic, as far as I can tell, but it's amazing too: Silk has light bondage, not for kink, but for anonymity, and to great effect. Jack/Daniel, NC-17.

Guy Talk by teand is quite wonderful Jack/Daniel at a crossroads. S9.

Microscopic by stellahobbit. Creative and unique and creepy and sweet. Jack/Daniel, but don't expect any cliches.

The Other Half by eliade containing some D/s, and the "alien gift binds me to you" cliche, but really well done. Some classy kink, not dark tho.

A fic with mutual violence, and it's almost indescribable. Short, thank goodness, because it wrenches you as you read. Congealed by kres. Warning: darkfic

And, the fic that almost melted bugchicklv's brain. It's got it all: BDSM, toys... all of it! Intensity by Sid (sidlj). And, because peer pressure will get you EVERYWHERE, Sid wrote a sequel, and a 4 part prequel as well: How It All Began Series, which comprises Discoveries and Experiments, Experiments and Decisions, Rules and Regulations and Commitment.

janedavitt (the bloody prolific woman that she is. *hugs*) wrote a lovely little Christmas fic called Missing Daniel. I actually like it best in the quiet After Holidays time. On a totally different note, a kink fic: A Necessary Silence. About letting go of control and letting things get quiet and imperfect and wonderful and about them again.

Corridor Life from wickedwords is her first in the fandom and we can thank taselby for the recruiting and inspiring. This is J/D, adult, S7 and a fantastic exploration of what has changed about Daniel and how he is more likely to invite himself if he needs to now. It's a nice nuance for the character. Jack's solutions for a bad day with difficult people remind me uncannily of my Mom, too, but we won't go into that.

paian wrote Walls and Mirrors, which is Jack/Daniel and posted like, 5 seconds ago, so I haven't read it yet, but I still loved it. Even better than Cats. More thorough rec to come.
ETA: okay, here it is. I loved this because it worships the beginning, the first revelation that might have brought Jack and Daniel past friendship and into something more. I loved their individual responses to it, and love how they never push each other past bearing. S4.

Then, an author I DID NOT KNOW, but have now read Everything I Could Find. icarusancalion , darling, sign me up for your fanclub, you write really gorgeous moments and find such interesting things to say in them. Two favorites: Shy Guy, which introduced me to her and does a brilliant job of letting two tacturn guys be hawt together. And Between the Lines for the aforementioned interesting moment amid slash.

troyswann= Salieri's Gift of the Magus will either frighten you (but in a good way) or have you hysterically rolling on the floor laughing. Or both. It's funny, it's in character, and it's frightening that it's IN CHARACTER. LOL.

Sal also wrote a bittersweet Vala snippet. And lo, I am thrilled when my favorite authors find their handle on a character. Especially when I haven't yet. "You're like elves distributing existential angst to the needy of the galaxy." *blink* YES.

Little Christmas from sage_theory for the 10/12 days of Christmas fic, which I have LOVED. This is Jack/Daniel and involves some excellent snuggling.

I wasn't and am not really drawn to the dorky Alt-SG-1 from Moebius, but Jennghis Khan (surrealphantast) has written several fics working with those characters and this one is a stand alone OT3 with great individual relationships between the three of them. In particular it focuses on Jack and Daniel working out the intimacy between themselves. It's beautiful, in a fantastically smutty way. More Than We Are J/D, mostly, adult.

This is an older piece, but lovely: Home Again by eos = ducks_in_a_row. Jack and Daniel, pre-slash, fever delerium. Yeah.

Jack/Daniel with a gun kink. First time, season 1 by padawan_ally: Defense Training. This is some *guh*, folks. NC-17.

and *squee* from Keiko Kirin: Two Weeks in December. Jack/Daniel. aaaaiiiiii! Everyone has read the Steak Series, right?

This is Pegasus B, but it's still Jack and Daniel, and the sexiest thing, considering that it never ventures into actual sex... It's incredible, though: Knives by raqs = dith. And, a rather spectacularly (good followup to Knives): Innovations.

Jane goes darkside: Leaving Time by janedavitt, J/D, NC-17, S4ish. It's really deft how she's woven threads of communication and resistance and miscommunication and love and anger and pain and blending into a piece that starts in one place and ends in a completely different setting. It's haunting, and it starts creepy, but more than that it's thought provoking. Incredible.

agentotter = Otter, wrote May You Last Forever, a gen or pre-slash fic that is ow and beautiful and ow and holy crap and character! and Daniel is so hurt, so many many times over hurt, and ow. It is such beautiful lyricism.

Spark of Life by kyrieane is gorgeous post-descension Jack/Daniel and not to be missed. Really, go read it, it's an amazing/confused POV from Daniel. Way cool.

taselby wrote me a snippet! It's a lovely broken!Daniel moment and Jack is there, without awkwardness, without obligation... just someone coming through for you when you really didn't expect them to. Friendship and pre-slash, CotG, Jigsaw.

dustandroses is writing for Jack and Daniel in the smut69 whatsit and I heartily approve. There are assorted drabbles and such, but may I highly recommend the fics under massage(Peg B 'verse) and voyeur (aliens made them do it)? I think those were written independently for something else, but they're here now in this lovely table of Jack/Daniel smut!

So Daniel descended with more than the usual understanding of what happened when he was away, and Jack had dallied. Most of us ignore all of this, but Devra wrote a gorgeous, painful but ultimately 'things are going to be okay' fic in which Jack and Daniel deal with the blow to their relationship on both a romantic AND a friendship level. Spanning roughly the end of Redemption II/Threads to mid Season 9/Beachhead, it really bridges canon and brings fantastic fresh elements to the story that keep it moving and interesting. Adult. Voices Carry by Devra.

Tradeoff by Paddy a really moving AU in which Jack is in Iraq and meets Daniel there, on the edge of the abyss. Not usually all that into AUs, but this was an incredible one.

Triangulation by kres. probably needs no introduction, but the details are the timing (right before S9 started) and that it's about Daniel (and Jack to a lesser degree) and it's slash, but also about misunderstandings and missed signals and emptiness and loss as Daniel makes plans to leave.

And then there's paian, the Beautiful One, who gives us the "tame dark-fic" Bound, an indescribable take on Jack and Daniel in S5. Most would say the friendship suffered, or there were words exchanged and no time to take them back, or the UST was never spoken and now there is only loss. But what if it wasn't their relationship, it was their lives? Tame BDSM warnings.

Also from paian, in the fic4martha comm, Lodgecombing was posted for everyone to read and it's gorgeous. The S9 Jack and Daniel has it's own set of challenges, and this is a brilliant dance around those and an amazing look into a gesture frought with meaning.

mmmchelle's Enduring. Jack and Daniel, how I love thee together. "Jack's never really liked fall. It's too much like autumn." *blink blink* Yes.

janedavitt's Crash Course Part 1! with links to the rest. YAAAAAY! Early Jack/Daniel. When they were still figuring out how to work together, but already had that chemistry. And the hair, natch. Read for great frustration with each other, marvelous early characterization and amazing dialog.

Untitled Lost City Part 1 Fic by the lovely and oh-so-incredibly-talented-I'm-adding-another-torch-to-the-shrine Komos (paian) Um, do I need to warn you that it's NC-17? Or is that more like encouragement to run faster? There's some wonderful, in character, serious *talking* as well.

Thawing by kres This is to part 0/4. It's of the disjointed chronology school of apocathreesomes, but I loved it inspite of or because of that. I even read and loved it in spite of it's WIP status at the time (it's finished now). It's lovely.

Wordgeek's latest update to The Mind Doesn't Decide series. More Than An Oath has, among other things, a very interesting and respectful take on Janet's death.

And from Berty, Falling which is that incredible moment after coming together when you want and you doubt that the other wants the same thing. I would *pay* her to write the resolution to this angst, 'cause it winds something up in me each time I read it. Almost palpably.

Sideways by ev_vy. No, not the movie. This is Jack/Daniel realized by Sam. But, as fanfic attests, the potential was there for any of them, and this felt like a very *real* Sam reaction to me. Ev_vy writes Sam very well, and with lurve.

Snapshots by ev_vy. A look at Jack missing Daniel, S6. Really lovely. AND, it totally gives new meaning to the S9 moment they had where Daniel says 'but didn't you always feel like that was because there was someone looking out for us?' Yup.

Moebius Tag or A Little Stargate Story by destina. One of my favorite Moebius tags, original team (not the AUs) living and surviving in ancient Egypt. Rated R, maybe. It's beautiful, as always.

Coda by kres. Another one of my favorite Moebius tags! It's really outstanding, and it will make your heart hurt.

Silk by Mary Jane It's PWP, but with character and wonder.

Unpacked by jenlev. It's supposed to be GEN, but I say implied slash. Post descension fic, and so so sweet. After all, Jack couldn't just forget about Daniel while he was gone, and Jack is the type to DO for the people he loves.

Goodbye, Farewell and Amen & But Keep the Old by sage_theory Ah, Season 9. It's a preoccupation of mine, I admit. Jack and Daniel are my OTP, and I must wonder how they will survive all this. But I have faith.

Pepe's Stargate Stories Anything she writes is amazing, but at this moment, I'm particularly fangrrly about Accomodating Daniel which has a brilliant mirror of Jack realizing Daniel's the only one for him in Sam realizing that as well; plus, Pepe's signaturely fantastic use of toys and kinks as well as romance and beauty to make the NC-17 bits even more trusting and alive.

Also at Pepe's place are numerous other authors of notably incredible talent: A Perfect Moment by Lyon, for example, is lovely and surprisingly poignant.

Salieri (Stargate Fanfic) =(troyswann) Desolation Angels is required reading, others are perks.

Willemakee by Mary Jane You'll want to have tissues close at hand.

Divergence by Eos Or anything she's done.

For Each Ecstatic Instant by raqs (Dith). I'd hug her if I knew her.

No you are quite right. I think it was a typo, on her webpage she is Komos, but on lj paian, so I apparently got a bit confuzzled. Surprised it doesn't happen more, actually, as this is such a long list, but the multiple handles thing is sometimes too much for my brain.

You're very welcome! These tend towards newer recs because some of the older stuff I read before LJ days, but I do go back and reread sometimes, so classics are on there. Generally the newer stuff is at the top.
