Title: The God of Poets Has Two Hands
Fandom: Stargate SG-1, spoilers for S10, Line in the Sand
Warnings: None (gen)
Word count: 2,300
Authors Note: great thanks, as always, to
rydra_wong for discussion and beta. Thanks also to
synecdochic and
paian for discussions and encouragement.
Prompt: the burdens of leadership - [I talk] about a strong, demanding love. And I have seen too much hate. (MLK Jr)
Summary: backstory, family, allies, heroics and fame. In 2,000 words.
“Warriors, of great renown,
Warriors walked the water road.
At the welcome of Thilana, open-handed,
On the threshold of the fire-throwers..."
(Let's face it, Bra'tac is incredibly awesome.)
(And an obliging protagonist, mostly.)
(Listen, shout out if you'd like to see a commentary on this. I'm still kind of in love.)

Date: 2008-02-05 08:15 pm (UTC)that wasn't what i meant at all! i meant all the normal things you can say about characterization or porn or the hotness of the guys just don't apply to this fic. it's more like reading an orig fic -- i have to do more than wallow in the squee of my normal romantic reading experience, you know?
it's not genre fiction. it requires me to think about it in order to even see what emotion i am experiencing.
for example, i never gave adequate feedback for paian's Palimpsest for the same reason.
but i have great hope that i can articulate my reaction. does that make sense? i need to settle in and read it again in order to do so.
see, gen is this way for me. it's not about the thrill of porn or the all consuming lovely identifying with the progression of the romance.
it's about the plot! or the character study! and for me that's a different thing. terrifically wonderful but not my usual fare, does that make sense?
*cheers*
