I'm hoping it will be done next weekish. I'm, lordy, two weeks past deadline for it, since it was supposed to be in for the reel_sg1 challenge. I was totally going to take it to a slashy place, but the characters kept doing Chinese firedrills on me, and it ended up a Teal'c and Daniel piece that is entirely friendship based.

I love when stories tell themselves, actually.

I will absolutely be shouting to the high heavens when it's finished. :)

Okay, I have a question that's been bugging me when I see these counters.

How do you "know" that a fic will be 6,000 words? I think it's going to be x, and my estimate is never on target (usually longer).

Meh, I'm totally guessing. This story breaks down into three parts very neatly, and I was nearly at 2,000 words with the first part and just assumed the other two would be about the same.

Now, if you want an accurate assessment, ask synecdochic. She never fails to come back with an alarmingly spot on number of words you'll need to add to the story. It's uncanny.

Every time you post a counter, though, you re-imput the number of words you have as a goal, so if it starts creeping up on you (your estimate, that is) you can just subtley shift the target as you go.
