I've posted my
gateverse_remix!!!! Yes, you could go over there and look for it, but you won't find it. It's screened until the actual reveal date on Sunday. Sunday is my birthday and I won't be around internetly until late, likely, so.
It's fun to post early and all, but without the thrill of feedback or, you know, anyone *reading* the story, I don't know what to do with myself except wonder which story of mine has been remixed. And why. I mean, I picked one story from my author's page (I'm thoroughly familiar with her work) based on incredibly awesome summary and figured out what other story to tell about it.
How did you guys pick your remix story?
Aaaaaaaaaaaaanyway. I'll be thirty on Sunday. I'm quite excited; I love birthdays and I love getting older. I'm still settling into my life here in the most expensive city I've ever lived, though, and I do sort of wish I could get my finances under control before my birthday. Actually, I just wish my finances were under control. It seriously bothers me to be in debt and I want it fixed nowish.
But I'll get it together soon. Maybe even soon enough. Never you mind that the first plan fell through.
In the meantime, I have more cards than I know what to do with at my apartment, presents from good friends and family already opened and loved, and a box from my parents that I'm not allowed to open until Sunday. My labmates completely surprised me with a chocolate cake and the lab next door came by too and there was much laughter and conversation about fireworks and birthdays and wonderful shiny things. I have friends driving up from LA, friends from boating and the house and work coming over for dinner Saturday, plans to be on the water, be wine-tasting and go out to brunch, and the weekend is just packed with good things to anticipate.
And after all of it, I'll come back here Sunday night, that much older and wiser and happier, to find fic from all of you. Great present. Happy weekend! Set off some fireworks for me and my Canada Day/Almost 4th of July birthday!
And in closing: my hair is four shades lighter than it was before I moved to California, and my skin is seven shades darker. My colors are inverting.

Date: 2007-06-29 10:32 pm (UTC)When it came to choosing stories, I had the option of several VERY LONG relationship stories, or one of two stories about characters who don't get as much love. And one of those had already been remixed, with the same concept I had. So I went for the other one. *g*

Date: 2007-06-29 10:35 pm (UTC)i am looking forward to the remix stories. I didn't participate because my brain does not work that way, but it should be really fun.
thank you for being so very nice to me when i joined this fandom last year. u were one of the people who welcomed me and for that i am so grateful.

Date: 2007-06-30 12:01 am (UTC)I'll say it later, so, HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY! Yay to b-day excitement!
I chose my remix by...um...reading through all the stories, trying to stretch myself and write a pairing I've never written before but having the gen story jump up and bite me with "there is another side to this story!" and not being to shake off its teeth. Ended up being a remarkably easy choice I couldn't fight if I wanted to.
Fireworks are illegal in my state, so I'll just imagine some for you :)

Date: 2007-06-30 12:30 am (UTC)But I'm here to give you birthday wishes and virtual chocolate (the no calorie kind).
I want to go read the remixes sometime when I have more stamina. Are they anon for a while that I should try and guess? ;-)

Date: 2007-06-30 12:34 am (UTC)blue eyes + dark skin + hair the same color = alien
Someone has probably already written that story, though. I think Iman played an alien in one of the Trek movies with freakishly light eyes and dark skin and clearly, you know, that meant she was *alien*.
Whole new set of issues living here, really. Like, is my conditioner rich enough? Have I applied enough lotion? Have I *reapplied* my sunblock enough times today? When am I going to have time to get all new beauty product colors if my looks keep changing (solution: continue not wearing make-up)? Have I washed my car this week, because omg it's dusty sometimes? Should I be alarmed by how quickly I've become comfortable wandering about in a bikini?
When I wonder if I'm too much of a California girl based on my looks I just remember that I still find all of this a little wierd, and I'm reassured.

Date: 2007-06-30 12:38 am (UTC)I didn't even read any other stories.
This is my first time remixing an author who writes stuff I already knew and loved (or just loved) so I was sure any story would be fine. In the past, I've had to read a lot more to try to find something to work with.
Yes, you beat me. You're very speedy.

Date: 2007-06-30 12:41 am (UTC)...and sadly my plot appeared to be the invention of a working tardis modeled after an arts & crafts bungalow. once invented, i couldn't find a door, so it was all for naught. i was going to use it in order to appear on your doorstep and throw birthday confetti. ::::pathetic sigh:::

Date: 2007-06-30 12:41 am (UTC)I really enjoy the idea of remixing, but in the great panfandom remix challenge, there just weren't a lot of Stargate authors or people whose work I enjoyed writing, so I wasn't going to do that one again. Syne's Gateverse remix pulled in a very high calibre of writers, though, and I am so, so excited to see what else we come up with (I've beta read two stories and they were stunning). I really enjoyed this challenge.
I also adore getting older in a very determined way. I enjoy my own company so much more as I get older; would never want to be young again. I prefer adventure, you know.

Date: 2007-06-30 01:28 am (UTC)Mine more closely resembled closing my eyes and randomly pointing at a story, but then I thought about it on and off during the moving time, settling in time, starting work time, and then writing time. *g*
Thanks for organizing. I am more excited than I can say, and the stories I've read so far are just extraordinary.

Date: 2007-06-30 01:32 am (UTC)Also, hee! I also wrote a gen companion to a very slashy fic. It's longer than I usually write, and a crossover, oddly, so it ended up being a little bit of a stretch. I'm pleased with it, I enjoyed living with that story for a little while and I'm ready to get it out there.
Fireworks are illegal??? As a former Midwesterner, this baffles me. *is baffled* I shall watch the fireworks displays and name a really shiny one in your honor.

Date: 2007-06-30 03:28 am (UTC)I'm sure your remixee will like it, for you are talented and amazing!
Oh, wow, you story sounds really cool now - I'm really antsy see them all! But, yeah, it fun to look at another story and find this entire other angle to spin it. Mine was a bit like "okay, character x thinks character y is acting a certain way - let's get into character y's head and figure out why"
Well, only illegal in that you said we should set some off for you and in Illinois the big kind you set off are illegal (which is why people cross the border to WI or IN or IA to buy them instead...)
We still have the official displays. (yay shiny ones! Mississippi last year had a bunch that looked like flowers and other shapes and were SO COOL!)

The remixes won't be author screened at all; you'll know who wrote what instantly! Magic!

Date: 2007-06-30 10:06 pm (UTC)I also had read everything of my author's before. So I could look at the summaries to remind myself of the story and then pick. I picked very quickly, though, and then just lived in the story in my head for a while.
Also, I had a boating practice this mornign that was four and a half hours and AWESOME, then I came home to housemate moving out, painting the room she left, and waiting for my friend to arrive before I start cooking.
I think I've earned my supper today. And possibly the birthday cake I ate yesterday. Wow. *has trouble holding up arms to type*

Date: 2007-06-30 10:13 pm (UTC)Hee, your faith in me is inspiring. I have some outtakes of scenes wot took over my brain but didn't make it into the final story that I shall post Monday, maybe. But my story could be described as a remix of an episode AU that was incredibly slashy but the remix steps out past the couple and into those orbiting them and making things happen, telling their story and passing the torch from one character POV to another.
So pretty much, I remixed a single POV, past tense, slash fic into a two POV, present tense, gen story (or peripherally slash, at best.) Also, I went way back in time to start the story, though I more or less ended it in the same place. Yup.

Date: 2007-06-30 10:14 pm (UTC)Wows. I hope housemate moving out was teh good thing and not of teh drama? And your remix is of teh awesome and I am SOOOO IMPATIENT FOR THE UNVEILING!1!!11!
*ahem*
And double-plus Happy Birthday, of course! To both you and Minxy-Sue!

So you like California then, and already have friends from all over. Somehow I suspected that would be the case :)= California weather suits you, too, I imagine. I bet you look even younger than you did before :D
I wish you the happiest birthday ever, much success at work and beyond, and may you always have that spark in you, the one I was privileged to see for a while, and which brought me energy and opened my eyes enough to try new things. Thank you for that and again, happy birthday :)=

Date: 2007-07-01 11:58 pm (UTC)1) I'm supposed to include the original story. Oops.
2) If I were to actually carry the concept out, I would need to decide what happened and why and how it affected, like, Eastern Europe.
I could probably have gotten around the first problem, but Eastern Europe stymied me. So I went back and looked again and briefly considered Footsoldiers on Uneven Ground, because, hey, Bra'tac and Teal'c and Teal'c's mother, there is no bad there! But then, problem: There's new canon on Teal'c's mother from Talion that I may or may not want to incorporate, and I actually am not sure I could write your Teal'c's Mom instead of mine.
So I went back again and chose Perchance to Dream, because there was Teal'c and it was a small enough story that I could just flip the POV and go from there. And then I wrote the first third or so and stalled out horribly, but I FINISHED IT IN THE END so I win, I guess.
And that's how I chose my remix story.

Date: 2007-07-02 03:43 am (UTC)And then I realize that it means you *actually did* remix Perchance to Dream and I have to wonder why I'm sitting here stunned and rereading your comment when I could be high-tailing it over to *actually read* the story.
That including the original story thing is the stupid reason my story ended up 7,000 words rather than the completely respectible 2,000 it started off being. I would have loved to have seen what story you'd find in the others, but I'm so excited to read your remix now. Wow. Thanks, in advance, you know.
*goes off to read now, kthx*
