That personal canon meme, with a twist
Jun. 2nd, 2007 09:23 pmIn flaming pimptastic style!
20 pieces of personal canon as written by you, my favorite fanfiction writers.
1. The one about Sam and Daniel: From Dust to Honey is
paian's Sam/Daniel ficathon piece, and it's about their history, their academic approach to their connection and the distance that arose from it, and how they cycle back around to one another, always. This is Sam and Daniel dealing with yet another emotional crack across the spine, and not realizing how much they needed the ease of another person's help until they were there for one another.
2. The one about Sam and Cameron: Recovering the Satellites, by
synecdochic. I love Syne's take on Cameron, even when she's hyperventilating about how there is Just No Way Cam Is From Kansas. It's an amazing extrapolation from canon, from body language, and from subtext, and I wish we had a few more seasons to learn more about Syne's Cameron. I guess we'll just have to hope she keeps writing him past the finale.
3 & 4. Theone that is two that are Jack, as an incredible judge of character, an incredibly stubborn man, and yet, one who impeccibly identifies and meets his teams' needs (and lets that trump all other considerations). Golden, by
dknightshade. Jack and Teal'c, and needs met, and friendship, and truce with an enemy that will not last, but is here for the moment. Then there's Jack with Sam: May, by
surrealphantast.
5. The one that is Sam and Jack, before, after, and eventually. Perfection, by
splash_the_cat.
6. The one about Teal'c's spare time: Teal'c's Five Favorite Board Games, by
paian.
7. The one where I boost my own story: There are few enough backstory fics for Teal'c that I feel like I'm not giving too much short shrift to other writers when I say that I believe that this is how Teal'c and Bra'tac came from two different Gods to become allies and rebels and trailblazers and family. Footsoldiers on Uneven Ground. My story.
8. The one where we understand how Teal'c can command millions and then barely rank in a team of only four.
paian's Speak the Living, which is indescribably wonderful. Has anyone not read this? You must read this.
9. The one where Sam settles command onto her shoulders: Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile by
splash_the_cat. Um, again.
10. The one that is the best team adventure ever: Ghosts In The Machine, by
surrealphantast.
11. The one with one of the best demonstrations of lingering effects of the shit these guys survive, and also how they save each other every time. Surface Tension, by Salieri (also called
troyswann) See also, the Sam and Daniel of #1.
12. The one where Cam is adorable, and still manages to get in trouble. God love him. My Pappy Was a Pistol, I'm a Son of a Gun by
minervacat.
13. The one where we give props to the recurring characters, for once: Five Ways Walter Saved the Galaxy (and No One Noticed) by
synecdochic.
14. The one where Jack and Daniel have a thing, and it's not the thing you're thinking, but it's not quite the other thing either. And it's exactly the thing they would have. Complicated, by
raqs.
15. The one about Sam and Rodney, with snark and sad and respect and how it would go down, were it to go down. The Same Boy You've Always Known, by
svendra for
agentotter.
16. The one where Sha're is more than a quest object. Scotoma, by
rydra_wong.
17. The one about Janet's first impressions of SG-1, particularly loved for the impression that that introduction was neither the only thing on Janet's to do list for the day, nor the wierdest, nor possibly even the most important, but it made an impression. Oh my, yes. Assess This, by
betacandy_sgfic. Also? The one that is Janet backstory, and healer and soldier and every contradiction that implies, heartbreakingly realized. Every Art and Artifice, by the Stylus.
18. The one about the frog. And Sam and Daniel, really early seasons. Protective Resemblance by
agentotter for Salieri, I believe. Bless these people for inspiring fic I love.
19. The one about how these beautiful people would have to consider the attractiveness of each other some time. Sparring, by
psychofilly. Sam and Daniel and Teal'c and physicality and sexy.
20. The one about the lost member of SG-1 in Season 9. Or 10. Tourist Attractions, by
katie_m.
There are more. Oh yes. There are authors I believe and love, but who haven't necessarily become canon for me. There are stories that I can't speak highly enough of, but this is not the recs list for them. I love you all, and I've loved reading your stories. I hope I've recced them hard enough to do them justice.

Date: 2007-06-03 11:09 pm (UTC)I always love those stories that add to canon in a good way - the ones that affect how you see a character from then on out and so this was a really neat, logical way of approaching this meme.
