New Year's Resolution numero uno:
Read the Sam Ficathon pieces.
Resolution fulfillment part the first:
splash_the_cat's You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile (Sam, gen, S8). The best Sam in command fic I've ever seen, and some of the best Sam writing ever. Plus witty, and banter, and Sam in command and feminine and friendly and marvelous. MARVELOUS.
Which just goes to show, folks, that it never hurts to pimp me your stuff. If it comes in the form of an end-of-year meme? It's clearly still all about me me me.
While we're on the subject of Splash, her Teal'c ficlet, post-betrayal and recovery in Threshold, is a thing of quiet team love: And I Am Looking Up at the Stars. Beautiful, gen, team. I love when they entertain each other; it's particularly moving when they're really trying to. I mean, my parents used to deliberately bicker on the phone for my benefit when I called home Sunday nights during college. It warms the soul.
And then there's the triumvirate of win of Splash fic, for the Sam ficathon, featuring Teal'c being wonderful. You Peacemakers Go to the Same Place as Soldiers. Sam, gen, early seasons As Sam struggles, it's amazing the wisdom and character the other three bring to bear on her experience. Jack is sardonic and sympathetic, Daniel is what she can never be again, and forgiving, and Teal'c is wisdom at it's most bittersweet and sincere. Team love in a time of sadness. Lovely.
and then there's
princessofg, who is still shiny!happy!glee! with the new love for Jack and Daniel, and has just posted a S8 Icon tag sequel to Don't Get Around Much Anymore (PG, first time). This is Until Tomorrow (Jack/Daniel, NC-17). This, people, is why we love newbies in the fandom, they bring the GLEE. You know what's more about princess of g in particular? She tells new stories. She comes at them in a way I haven't seen before. Maybe, as she says, it's standing on the shoulders of really brilliant character writers, and I'm all for our team becoming more in fandom than they have a chance to be in canon (it's the foundation of this fandom, I think), but I think it's her too.
Part of my nostalgia for going back and writing Jack/Daniel in the new year (either resolution numero dos or plans for issuing a challenge) is to boost my resolve to write despite thinking someone else has already done it better. And there's PrinofG, just making it all look easy. You go, girl.
In other news, I'm fixing to read some Firefly slash on recommendation, but must head out of town on an interview.
Watch out, California.
