fanfic recs, in a disjointed sorta way

I hope to have fic for you soon, as new fic is percolating and feels like it could be longer-ish. Might need some substantial time in beta, and is deadlined, so best to get on with it.

laytoncolt looked at spirituality with John and Rodney, that John finds God in the safe spaces: War Doesn't Stop for Sundays. Lovely and balanced and sweet remembrances of things memorized long ago. It's slash, but worksafe. It's also friendslocked, but I'll holla if she posts it to a comm.

It reminds me that no one has yet written me Teal'c in a cathedral. *looks stern* Anybody could take him: Jack on a visit to the cemetary, Daniel as an anthropological field trip, Sam because she was going anyway, or for her father's memorial, or even, heck, even JONAS, for pure interest's sake. But Teal'c needs to see that, and someone else needs to write it. Yes.

Two classic Jack/Daniel (I will totally accept this if you can't manage Teal'c in a cathedral, btw):

janedavitt brings fantasy into conflict with reality, only Jack's inability to be honest dividing the two: Choices. not so much worksafe.

Also with the classic Jack/Daniel (when Jack was a colonel, even) from mmmchelle, inspired by destina 'small dogs' rant, I think (small dogs being little things that, with repetition and/or association with badfic become intolerable): His. Not worksafe either.

Sam fic:

By Her Judgement by moonshayde, very tight writing, classic, wonderful gen yarn of a tale. Highly recommended plotty stuffs, with Sam in command and responsible, earlier seasons. Worksafe.

Sam and Rodney. I love these two together, possibly just for the snarking and animosity, but also (like in this marvelous fic) for the catharsis. But It's a Good Refrain. Gen, worksafe, Season 8 for SG-1, just before the Atlantis expedition departs. From splash_the_cat, gotta love her.

More Sam with Rodney, with John, from ltlj, who is the queen of crossovers. Gen, PG-13, Earth 2. I love, so very much, every single relationship between the four characters who feature in this.

And while we're on Sam and Rodney, let me remind you of the truly marvelous snarky sexy story from eretria for these two: A Question of Perspective. Not worksafe, quite NC-17 in fact.

A Firefly fic from the ether showing the connection, mind-boggling as it is, between Kaylee and Jayne and River. Loved River's voice. Haircuts and Kings by ArtemisPrime.

I remember seeing people talk about the crossdressing fic in Atlantis like it was a sub-genre, like turning John and Rodney into cute animals was, but I'd never come across it. I did today, though, and I was very impressed. John remains oddly capable of dealing with the physical world and various manifestations of need, without ever touching emotion with a ten foot pole, except to mildly freak out in unexpected, yet completely in character, ways. His voice in this is impressive, but it's a half-step deviant, so possibly not for everyone. Second Skin, John/Rodney, NC-17 from toftfroggy.

I shall close with a Torchwood/SGA crossover from sdraevn, in which two people far too much alike find themselves on the same team and caring, despite everything. John and Jack. Kansas, worksafe.

I keep thinking of your Teal'c in a cathedral idea. Like every day. It's so not funny. I see the imagery but just no plot. But I may give it a try sometime even if you have like 50 people write you one first.

I would take a moment, an image, the equivalent of a sweeping panorama with this huge man a little blip in the midst of beauty for glory's sake rather than gaudy self-aggrandizement...

Or, whatever marvelous take on it *your* mind comes up with. I'd love a worshipful image-filled moment. Or fifty.

It was fun to find two old school, married love Jack and Daniel fics, and then one like Second Skin that just sucker punched me with teh hot. Did you read the prequel? I haven't yet, as I haven't seen much of conversion, but the bits I've seen had some creepy images.

It's not St. Paul's. It's not the Vatican or anything close. The Vatican is umpti-bazillion miles away on a planet coasting around a star that's a speck invisible even in the peripheral vision. Whatever they're singing there never makes it this far. But Jack stops at the bottom step of the gate platform and sucks in the cold air, feels ice crystals forming (not really) in his lungs, and tilts his head back, looking askance just in case his peripheral vision will pick up some residual spark. But what he sees, instead, is Teal'c, stopping too, chin lifted, eyes closed for just a fraction longer than a blink, and Jack sees him listening, and it's only the wind, but Teal'c is listening and the expression on his face makes the wind into voices, thin, high, wavering at the end of breath, worldess alleluiah. And the tallest of the trees meet overhead like flying butresses, and the galaxy spins at the point where they come together, an arch holding up the sky, and Teal'c's eyes close just a fraction longer than a blink and Jack wonders--just a fraction longer than he'll admit--how it feels to slay God, and how, even then, a man can tilt his head back and still hear voices in the wind.

Wow, beautifully written. It's not often that we get something so softly spoken from Jack and this work wonderfully. A great insight into the quieter side of Jack and the level of communication he shares with Teal'c.
