the odd non-fannish email
Sep. 8th, 2006 02:45 pmUpdate on the post-defense haze:
Traveling is good, being home is also good. I've been cooking (with the lofty title of 'caterer to athletes') for an army in advance of the local race this weekend. It's been so much fun, even the bit where I dodge the somewhat proprietary kitchen matron; although thank goodness it's so nice here, because if it'd been hot? Oooooh, I shudder to think of the lecture I would receive if I'd turned on the oven.
It would appear that P, who is now Just A Friend, is acting as matchmaker. I'm not entirely sure this is whole-heartedly, as This Guy is a friend of his current girlfriend (now with more staying power!) who, I'm pretty sure, is not really aware P and I were ever romantically involved. As a result, I met her and This Guy for the first time at the same time, and This Guy was definitely flirty and sweet. He's also very much of a different state (just visiting his sister, who is expecting, and that's pretty cute too) but works a job that somehow pays for him to travel often. Now, don't quote me on this, but I think they transferred him down to Texas from No Cal, and part of the deal was that they would fly him back to No Cal on a monthly basis or something, and he's allowed to transfer the destination to wherever as long as it's less expensive or he pays the difference. I don't know why I remember that.
So the point is, This Guy is feeling out the possibility of traveling together, which would be a pretty intense way to get to know someone, but instinct and first impressions say: sweet man, tall, not bad looking (though, sadly, not of dark hair/eyes), into family, loves travel, loves good food, is willing to take a chance and see if I'm interested. I'd say it warrants further research.
The fact that it's P who is now Just A Friend acting as go between? Really entertains me. Ha. I shall have to tease him about that, once I figure out the lay of the land with This new Guy.
In other news: Am feeling not terribly fannish lately, as evidenced by the not having read the Sam Ficathon stories yet, but perhaps new shows today will help. Ooooooh, house to myself tonight! Yay! Maybe I'll cook something...
And now, an excerpt from life as we know it, right at this moment:
Minx: *puts on shoes to go pick up the last of the catering needs, and new car part, and Sandman book 5*
*gets distracted by internet as she realizes she never actually posted to LJ*
Puppy: *looks at shoes*
*angsts*
*brings gifts of trash lifted from the bin on the other side of the room in blatant attempt to bribe Minx into taking her along, wherever she may go*
Minx: You aren't fooling anyone, you know; that was totally my own trash you just brought me.
Puppy: *curls up ON TOP OF Minx's feet in a subtle back up statement*
And they say dogs aren't communicative. It would be cuter if she weren't placing all 80 pounds right on top of my big toe.

Date: 2006-09-09 12:41 am (UTC)Puppy is very expressive and just driven to be with us. She'd have us wrapped around her little... paw, if she weren't such a brat sometimes. *makes face at unrepentantly happy puppy*
