Heeeeeey! So I'm back! I checked in every once in a while and kept up with the fanfic postings for the newsletter, at least. Didn't have a whole lot of time for reading while I was gone, though, because it was an AWESOME VACATION. I'd say it wasn't over yet, but I really do need to get cracking on the edits for the tome.
Later, obviously.
I rec you now, of the stuff I have read, two Walter stories! (sorta)
When Your Job Description is a Lie, by
svmadelyn, derivative of
ltlj's Retrograde universe (actually, inspired by this comment fic), all of which is wonderful. THIS, though, this has Walter and TEAL'C. Bonding. Seriously. It's marvelous.
Also fantastic are the results of this Five Things meme going around.
synecdochic got the prompt of Five Ways Walter Saved the Galaxy (and No One Noticed) and the first one alone could So Happen. The rest of her Five Thingses are also quite extraordinary, as you may imagine.
And, although they didn't write about Walter, the following folk get honorable mention nods for saying nifty things in their Fives Deep Insights meme contributions: Sage_Theory, Kellifer, danvers, Cofax (really, these were amazing, particularly the Firefly ones) and Rydra Wong (who wrote a number of S9 SG-1/Farscape ones, which is so cool.) eta: And Sal, too.
Other fic: Fans of Dr. Jackson's Diary will find the first part of the sequel here, which the lovely Anais (
notmonkey) has just posted for the general fanfic community to view (was previously under flock and key). I really do love the Diary, even though it must be acknowledged as AU, of a sort. I don't know that I've ever laughed harder than I did reading November and December, though I admit that it took me a couple of chapters to warm up to the characterization initially. Generally Jack/Daniel and NC-17.
Comfort fic from
synecdochic: Colorblind, which is Sam/Cameron PWP and sleepy, wordless, sweet, comfort smut. NC-17
Comfort kink: Marks by sffan (at Area52) which is nice Jack/Daniel being not vanilla. NC-17.
Thanks to
cofax7, I found this nice, long SG-1/Harry Potter crossover that plays great plotty games with the characters and plays to everybody's strengths really nicely. It's Long. It's got a million chapters, some of which have loud authorial comments at the top which I tried to ignore, and there are spelling mistakes sprinkled all the way through (the mispelling of Stargate character names was jarring), but I'm still reccing it, for you fans of the plotty story. Crumpets Aren't My Style, by Marz1 at ff.net. Worksafe.
I'm behind on stuff that was posted, but feeling wonderfully lackadaisical and vacationy atm, and I figure it's better to post now and be done with it. Also to say hi! Had a great time! Had a massage, and great food, and great drink, and great company, and a great campsite, and escaped the sweltering weather pretty often, considering. I don't really belong in LA, but I find it a fascinating place to visit. And a fanboy tried to pick me up in the airport on the way home because I was reading Sandman.
Also, and this has nothing to do with anything else in this post, but I think I have to brag that I may have broken my vibrator. Or is brag not the right word to use? Ah, vibrator, you helped me stop thinking and fall asleep during the pre-defense stress; that would break anyone. RIP.

Date: 2006-09-07 05:14 am (UTC)Although it is always fun to watch men in shape running around being sweaty and stuff, I'll give you that. And Venus and Serena are pretty damned impressive women...
Glad you liked the Walter fics. I thought them marvelous.
